UNCUT | Hobson's Choice (1954) Movie Reaction [Trivia To Be Edited]

Hi all! As promised, here's a brand new classic film uncut reaction for you!
NOTE: Due to the "London Films" logo at the start, for one reason I took that to mean that they were in London throughout the film. I make references to it every now and again, despite hearing their very northern accents. I do realise halfway to three quarters through that it was the logo at the start and the film is set near Manchester 😅🤦‍♂️

This time it's to the brilliant comedy "Hobson's Choice" from 1954. I didn't know what this film would be about or where it was set, but knew I'd love it from the look of it.

Thank you so much for requesting this! It really brightened up my day and kind of wish I could watch it again with fresh eyes, to see the magic of the relationships unfold again.

Watching them change over the course of the film, with Willie coming out of his shell more, it was great to see. However, I never expected the relationship that he would form in the end!

I hope you guys can enjoy this classic along with me. Get your popcorn and coffee at the ready!

Take care everyone

The best love story ever.

Monica Murphy

It's a great film. David Lean isn't known for his comedies, but it shows he could do it, and make it look beautiful. Three TV stars in supporting roles, you spotted Prunella Scales aged just 21 I think. But the doctor was John Laurie, Fraser from Dad's Army. While I believe a photo of Jack Howarth (Tubby) can still be seen on Coronation Street where he played Uncle Albert Tatlock, the uncle to Ken Barlow's first wife and a star of the show for its first quarter century. The play is a classic, over a hundred years old and set 30 years before that.

Lee Hallam

Yep, it can get a little confusing, and I think that, if I weren't a Bronte fanatic, it would have confused me too, but all the Manchester mentions put me in mind of them and Mrs. Gaskell, so I have the sisters to thank for keeping my feet in the right place! Davie Lean was the director, so the wonderful camera work and concepts is no surprise. I especially love our intro, as the camera acts almost literally as our eyes and ears, reacting to unexpected sounds just as we would.

Thank you Maria 😅 I realised about halfway to three quarters through that it was up north for sure, near Manchester and can't believe I'd thought it was London for half of it. It was that London Films logo that did it! Lol 🤦‍♂️

Marty

They're in Salford, near Manchester, and they actually filmed most of the movie there, which excited the citizens! Oh, I'm so glad you liked this movie! It's one of those movies where, when I show it, or recommend it, my heart rises if the person likes it, and sinks a bit if they don't: something about the story and the characters touches in a special way I can't really explain.
