UNCUT | Classic Doctor Who: The Dalek Invasion Of Earth (S2 | Parts 5 & 6)

Hi all! Here's the finale to the second storyline in Season 2 of Classic Doctor Who (confusing, I know).

SPOILERS AHEAD, IN CASE YOU'VE YET TO SEE THIS STORY!!

A wonderfully epic story of Doctor Who with this comeback of The Daleks and loved the way they finished off the Daleks in this. However... SUSAN?! What are you doing to us?!

I cannot believe that was how it happened, especially after me wondering back in the first part, as to which story it would be in. Not realising it was this one!

I don't know how to feel. I bawled my eyes out at the scene, as I thought she was a wonderful character and was part of the original TARDIS family.

Plus, how they did felt so strange, as there was no parting conversation between Susan, Ian and Barbara or even the Doctor really. You can't really class what they did as a proper goodbye. I know he said he would be back... but he hasn't been back yet, has he? (They seem to have made that clear in more recent episodes anyway).

I haven't looked this up, but I'm wondering if it was maybe a case that Carole Ann Ford wanted to leave sooner rather than later (or maybe a contract thing) and so they didn't feel it necessary to get her back on the TARDIS set and feeling this was the best way to end things. It's just a shame that the doors just slam shut and we get that very disconnected farewell (for now) speech.

Don't get me wrong though, this was one of my favourite stories so far.

Thank you all for joining me with this VERY emotional one!

Thank you Thomas, yeah I don't know why I thought that at first, as I knew they had people in there in other stories. I think it was the water throwing me off as I'd thought the actors would have just drowned in them 😅 I really like the way they operate them, as it just feels like a much better hands on approach. Thank you so much for the info on the episodes/series too! I'm looking forward to diving into more of the stories sometime soon. Ahh that's brilliant to know about Carole Ann Ford! I'm glad in person they could have that chat between each other with eyelines. It's just a shame that in the show it seemed a little cold (at least to me in a way). Oh yes!! I never took that in about Susan's necklace. Oof yes, tell me about it, I was bawling! Such a wonderful story though and I had a feeling Susan's send off would make me emotional, but I didn't realise just how much! Thank you so much for watching!

Daleks aren’t remote control, they’ve always been foot powered in the Classic Series, literally like scuttling on office chairs around the place. It’s why Dalek’s are usually operated by actors / dancers, because they have to learn their lines to control the lights, move the eye, control the gun and plunger and hit their marks. Doctor Who episodes at this point are rehearsed an episode a week, Monday to Thursday, and recorded on Friday, with a cameral rehearsal, technical setup and then record the actual episode in an hour and a half in order from beginning to end. So Carole Ann Ford was acting in one set while the Doctor was in the TARDIS set live. They were actually in each others eyelines during the speech. Susan’s necklace is also her TARDIS key too. It’s fantastic that Classic Who, 60+ years later can still deliver on emotional punches so well.
