Update: On the mend

(NOTE: The audio sounds awful in this due to an internal mic issue on my phone and I'd forgotten to use the external mic. I had to unfortunately use AI to enhance the audio to bring out my voice a bit more, as the original was far too muffled. There may be some words that have been enhanced weirdly)

Hi all. I wanted to update you on how I've been and how things are at the moment. I'm still working through the weird illness of Covid and it's many symptoms, but it feels like I'm coming out of the other side.

Despite how I am in this video, although I'm a lot better than I was, I am still feeling a little rough and my chest does still feel off too, with that cough coming through constantly. Nothing that can't be fixed with time and rest though.

I am planning on getting back into the swing of things this week, with hopefully a smaller set of episode reactions at first.. maybe classic Doctor Who or something. I'm not sure yet. I'd also like to very much start working through my requests list ASAP, especially for ones that I had to postpone when I got ill.

I do have a few things I think you'll be interested in coming soon, which are non-reaction videos and I think you'll like them as little extras whilst I get things back to normal.

The great news is I have almost finished Time Bandits reaction part of the video too, so that'll be up for early access in the next couple of days.

I'm somewhat wary of saying I feel better when it's so up and down that at any hour I could feel completely different and a whole lot worse or better. It's so odd.

However, that being said, I'm hoping to start taking times when I feel a bit better and using those to get back into things. Whilst it will possibly shatter me out at first, hopefully we'll be back to normal soon.

(To interject, I know many people here have been feeling ill lately or may have certain illnesses. The last thing I want to do is to make it seem like my health is worse than yours. I just wanted to try to keep you all updated with my health. Hopefully that's how it comes across)

This is a community of people who are very like minded and caring and I thank you all for being amazing and also sharing your stories with me too. It means so much to me that you would do that and that we're looking out for each other.

Keep being absolutely amazing and thank you all again for being so patient!

Thank you so much! Yeah, it's been an awful ride, but thankfully I'm coming out the other side now (some days). Thanks, yeah I'm going to take time and space out what I do get done. That way it makes room for healing time. I have thought about a few things that are shorter, so hopefully those are coming soon. Freaks will be one of those things! I appreciate you thinking of me with the suggestion. Thank you. I love documentaries, but not sure yet about watching those. I'm sure there's a few, but would there be anything that people would be interested in me watching? Are there any you can think of? I'll have a think about it, but I'm not sure yet. If I do, I could always watch smaller docs on things I've seen and those could maybe be then implemented partially into the main videos on YouTube. Thank you so much!

It's a nifty book for details about the films! I'd planned on incorporating it into the start of film reactions, but not sure yet. It's a handy book to have though. Oh nice! I've not seen those before. I used to have a movie guide book years ago, but I believe it wasn't Maltin. Yeah, that's one reason I wanted to get the book (albeit an older book, but I watch more older films anyway), because it draws away from the internet a little and becomes a bit more unique. Thank you for the suggestions! I've been thinking of doing both Son Of Kong and Freaks as some of the next films. I kept seeing comments about watching Son Of Kong back when I released the King Kong, so it's a great shout. Ooh yes! Twilight Zone would be a great one as it's something I've wanted to watch for years. Maybe Star Trek at some point, but for the moment there's a lot of Trek to watch. I'm interested in seeing it though, as I've seen quite a few episodes and all the newer films released (I used to own a series set of Voyager, I believe) Maybe Trek is something I can watch after a longer show is finished. Thank you! I am too. Ahh yes, tea and honey has been a main thing for me and has worked wonders. Always something I drink when under the weather. Plus garlic when I can. Thanks David! Take care

Marty

Thank you Tara, I'm slowly getting there! I shall try to. Thanks for being amazing. Take care too

Marty

Thank you Deb, yeah hopefully that'll be the way to go for now. Aww, thank you!!! I still can't believe it :D

Marty

Thank you Jamie!

Marty

Thank you Marla! I'm getting there. Good news, I just posted a new UNCUT for classic Doctor Who!

Marty

Thank you Scorpius!

Aww!! Thank you so much Tess. That comment made my day. I'm beaming ear to ear now. Thanks for the kind words about the stubble too. Yeah, I still sound and look a bit ill. Yeah, the fever is waning now thank god. Sometimes comes back, but I just need to not overwork myself. Thank you, I know I don't. But also, you guys are here supporting me, so the least I can do is to give you something in return by watching things. I just need my health to be back to normal to do just that. Hopefully soon! Hopefully soon... just wait and see ;) Thanks, I'm going to take some time to fully mend, but in the meantime some things will go out. Thank you again Tess!

Marty

Oh my goodness, you poor thing...! I hope you don't think it reduces your adorableness, because it doesn't (the stubble is flattering actually), but you DO look and sound ill, and you should definitely rest! That above all. Especially if your fever is high. You do not owe us a THING. Just get better. I am sure I speak for others when I say NO one is going to be mad if you don't release any content for a while. You are commendably conscientious, but please don't do anything taxing until you're well! Seriously.

Tess

Stay strong young man.

Scorpius

I'm glad you're keeping us updated on your health! It's important! Keep on feeling better and better!

Tara M. Wilcoxon

The most important thing is to get better! Then whatever you do, please get back to classic Doctor Who, please.

Marla Mize

Hey Marty - good idea to watch shorter content and your plan sounds good! Listen to your body and don’t push yourself, and CONGRATS on 4.5k subscribers on YT! 🍾🎉

deb

Glad to see you’re kicking covid! Take it easy mate :)

Jamie Dodds

I remember that book! I used to have a sizable collection of movie review books - my favorites were the Leonard Maltin movie guides. I guess Rotten Tomatoes spoiled all that for us in later years. I agree with Tic Toc Melody on Freaks for a shorter classic film...another fun one is Son of Kong (1933), the direct sequel to King Kong which is only 80 minutes long. It is nowhere near as good as the original but is an interesting followup with several of the actors from the first film. As for TV shows...maybe some Twilight Zone or Star Trek? Glad to see you are on the mend, Marty...keep chugging that tea and honey and apple cider vinegar and raw garlic and whatever else you can find to help! 💜

David Wayne Fox

Marty, I'm so happy you're feeling better, but so bummed you had to go through this (and are still going through it). Just take it easy, don't push yourself. Do SHORT stuff. And maybe not comedies, so you don't start coughing. Maybe even short documentary stuff. Perhaps some "making of" docs of some of the movies you've already watched. "Freaks" from 1933, incredible movie, only an hour and six minutes. Do that one, your face will say it all, you won't have to do much commentary.
