UPDATE on my health. Covid.

Hi all! An update on my health, which thanks to a fair few of you (especially Charles and Deb) I now realise isn't the flu, as I have tested positive this morning for covid.

Yeah.. this is the second time I've caught it now and I am always extremely careful. I'm always keeping hands washed or using hand sanitiser, wearing masks etc.

The weirdest part about it all is that, since getting it the first time I was always told about the loss of taste and smell, but never lost it. However, as of this morning, I now have.

Everything tastes bland, of nothing at all. The only thing I can mildly taste is apple juice, which is weird. I can't even smell or taste coffee!! If you know me, I LOVE coffee. Hopefully this comes back as soon as possible. I had wondered yesterday when bread tasted like some kind of foam paper and thought it was just a bad batch of bread.

With a foggy head and feeling like my body is painful to the touch, amongst other things, I'm sure most people are feeling or have felt with covid. Most of this I've felt before, but some of it is new.

I wanted to make this bigger update on it, as it's been a few days and was hoping I may have started feeling better. I just seem to be cycling through different symptoms getting stronger and weaker.

Thank you all for the kind well wishes, it means a lot. I hope you're all well yourselves and if you are feeling like this then please get tested yourself too. You never know and it helps to safeguard others around you too. If you are unwell though, I wish you a speedy recovery.

As for your film requests, thank you so much for them. I can't wait to get to watch them. I just feel apologetic that covid hit before I could watch any more yet. I will though, as soon as I'm feeling better. I'm excited to see what your favourites have in store for me!

Last but not least, I am still slowly working on more videos when I'm able to, but I'm trying not to overdo it so that I can recover as soon as possible. I want to get watching more things.

The next film reaction being edited for YouTube is "Time Bandits", which I'm having a lot of fun re-watching. Especially as I can't watch the new series yet (which came out today), due to wanting to react to it.

I think that's everything. Anything else and I'll update this.

Thank you and stay well everyone! (This has taken quite some time to write!)

Thank you Tess, yeah I couldn't quite believe it. You guys had mentioned it but I didnt want it to be covid again. Thank you for that, the suggestions of antivirals are very appreciated. Oddly, my doctor never suggested them when I told them of being covid positive. I had to approach it with them and they said they are only people with certain criteria are eligible to be offered them. I'll DM you with something in a sec. Thanks for the info on the smell/taste. It seems I can taste sweet stuff now, but as for coffee yeah its awful as I still cant smell or taste it. I'm still drinking it anyway though, just not as much as Im trying to have less caffeine to keep more hydrated. Coffee truly is a magical thing and smells wonderful usually. I can smell a very, VERY small amount of it, so it may be starting to come back but that could be me just wishing to smell the aroma. Yeah, Ive been very much the same with foods and eaten different foods and most have been either soups or crunchy things. Thank you for worrying about me, yeah I'm managing to keep on top of eating. Albeit a little less just cos I havent been too hungry, but definitely making sure Im eating and drinking still. Very much drinking enough fluids, as thats a huge part to feeling better. I didnt think of the sports drinks though (I did that last time I was ill and it helped!) Aha yes! Ive been taking flu tablets (which have paracetamol amongst other ingredients too). Ive also taken ibuprofrn too. I had NO idea they all had different names elsewhere though! Those tablets have helped to alleviate some of the pain Yeah I used to find paracetamol worked but these days I dont and tend to opt (if I ever take any - I try not to) for something like ibuprofen. Thank you so much for all the info, Im so so thankful to everyone being so kind and helping. Its very heart warming and has been helping me through this. I'll DM you now about something you said 🤗

Marty

Thank you Scott. Its very much appreciated. Aw man, thank you!! Haha I hope so. I'm on the mend and getting there slowly. Still not great, but getting there. I really appreciate that, I can't wait to be back. Take care too

Marty

Thank you so much Robert! I'm slowly getting there 🤗 Haha yes I think I've heard that too! So I've been watching Fawlty Towers and some other comedy bits 😜 It's been wonderful

Marty

Anyway, the long and short of it is 1) I'm so sorry you're suffering! 2) Try to eat whatever you can, and drink lots of water or electrolyte/ sports drinks, 3) For the aches and pains, try NSAIDS like ibuprofen (Advil here) or naproxen (Aleve here). What we call acetaminophen (Tylenol) I believe you folks call 'paracetamol' over there. It could help with fever and some pain, but it can be hard on the liver, and it's not an anti-inflammatory. I'm guessing many covid symptoms are due to inflammation and the body needing to address that.

Tess

Oh, I wanted to add: I've known people who lost their sense of taste/smell after covid, but I believe it's come back for all of them. Some right away after antiviral treatment. One after a month. For another, it took six months, etc. Hang in there! And my goodness, I can't believe you can't smell COFFEE! That's truly terrible especially since it's such a strong smell, so lovely and roasty and aromatic, and more to the point it's a favorite of yours. A friend of mine whose sense of taste got messed up and who lost an unnecessary amount of weight said he had to choose foods with *textures* he could stand, since smell and taste were out of the picture. He was getting weaker and too thin because he didn't want to eat. 😔 I think he said light crunchy things were what he liked most texture-wise? I'm not sure but I'll ask him. No doubt it varies from person to person. Can you endure liquids while in the no-taste phase? If you don't like feeling-but- not- tasting meat or vegetables in your soup, try a pureed soup, like vichyssoise. Nice and smooth and full of nutrients. But most of all--see a doctor for the antivirals, eat/drink whatever you can tolerate, and stay well-hydrated.

Tess

Oh noooo, Marty! I'm so sorry this happened to you (again). Yeah, I just had a feeling it could be covid. You probably don't feel like it but if you can get some antivirals early on, they can help. You might be past the window but maybe not. I'd check with a doctor. You don't want long covid. 😞

Tess

Wishing you a speedy recovery Marty. They say hospital patients who watch comedies heal faster!

Robert Williams

Oh, Marty, so sorry you are not well! Take care of yourself and get well soon! As for taste, yours is obviously impeccable, so I have no doubt it will be back soon! Take all the time you need, we aren’t going anywhere. ❤️

Scott aka Blue62

Aw, thank you Tara :) You're amazing, it means a lot

Marty

Please take care, Marty, we’ll be here! 💗

Tara M. Wilcoxon

Feel free to steal, Marty. My dad jokes have gotten more "tasteless" as I've gotten older! Or maybe that's just flavorless...

David Wayne Fox

Thank you David. Haha, that's brilliant! I'lll definitely be using that in the future, if you don't mind me stealing it. Oh heck yeah, it really is. It helps me get through most days feeling human! Thank you so much, so do I. I hope you're well yourself though David. Have a lovely day!

Marty

That's okay Charles, I really appreciated you letting me know. The thought about it being covid had passed me by, despite having had it before. Bless ya! I can imagine. The cough is always the annoying lingering part. Thank you! I'm going to try to. Take care man and hopefully your cough gets better too

Marty

Sorr to have been the bearer of bad news! I just had Covid for the first time in May. I’m still coughing up a storm. Get lots of rest!

Charles Finn

Sorry that you are going through this, Marty. Covid has given us an excuse to tell someone "I really hope your taste improves" without it being an insult! Because, after all - coffee is life. I hope this thing clears up soon...feel better!
