UNCUT | Classic Doctor Who: Planet Of Giants (S2 | Parts 1 & 2) Reaction

Hi all! IT'S HERE... The start of Season 2. This is parts 1 & 2 of "The Planet Of Giants". This is such a brilliant story and a high contender as my favourite story so far, aside from "The Edge Of Destruction" story so far. This one surprised me and reminded me a lot of "Honey, I Shrunk The Kids". A great, but wonderful, change to the normal stories too.

I have parts 3 & 4 to post yet, but stay tuned for those. Yes, parts 3 AND 4, which are the re-cut episodes and get William Russell and Carole Ann Ford back to do modern day extra voiceover! That'll be next time though.

This is the start of me bulk watching episodes, so that we can journey through the Classic Who collection a bit quicker.

P.S. Also, thoughts... what do you think to me keeping this self made combined logo of Classic & Modern logos? I like it, but not sure your thoughts? I had a thought of making it gold for the thumbnails, but I'm toying with whether to add any or leave it black and white. I always think bright yellow or maybe blue works well in thumbnails.

More to come soon!

Oh wow, that's a great piece of info! Thank you so much Thomas! I had no idea about that with the "An Unearthly Child" idea. It's so interesting that this was an initial idea brought back. Ooh, I love their story types. I suppose the same still stands today really. Yes it is! Now that you've said that, it's quite obvious. I didn't think of it from an environment point of view. Also, thank you for the info on it's inspiration. I have in fact watched the final two episodes along with these three, but wanted to split them. I had thoughts about not splitting them due to wanting to get them out quicker, but thought this way it would span more videos and so could get videos out quicker. I may change my mind when it comes to bringing them to YouTube though and I may bulk together into one large video. I've not heard of Silent Spring, so it's fascinating that it was inspired by that. Ohh!! I should have thought about that with "Ant-Man". I had no idea how old the stories were in the comics. Also, I haven't heard of that Shrinking Man film either. Funnily enough, yesterday when watching "West Side Story" I realised Riff was played by Russ Tamblyn who played "Tom Thumb" (1958), which I saw many times growing up and loved it. Again, the story of a young man no bigger than the size of his father's thumb. That could well have been another, even earlier, inspiration. I couldn't believe it when I suddenly rememberd him mid-film haha! Thank you for watching Thomas! Parts 3 & 4 are coming very soon. Possibly tomorrow if I can get the uncut edit done. If not then the day after. Thanks again!

Planet of Giants’ concept of shrinking the travellers down in size was originally going to be what happened in “An Unearthly Child” with the group being shrunken down and landing in Ian’s classroom lab. The idea was mooted but the concept of a story shrinking the regulars persisted. Verity Lambert and Syden Newman envisaged Doctor Who as having broadly three types of stories, stories set in the past concerning history, stories set in the figure concerning science, and ‘sideways’ stories, featuring explorations into other concepts, such as scale. Planet of Giants is also Doctor Who’s first environmentist story, with it being inspired by “Silent Spring” published by 1962. Which was the first major documentation on humanity’s impact on the environment, specifically pesticides entering the food chain. So this story was fairly forward thinking for its time. As for other inspirations for shrinking, “Ant-Man” was first published by Marvel in 1962, and “The Incredible Shrinking Man” premiered in 1957. But they’re just guesses.
