UNCUT | 2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984) Movie Reaction [Trivia Yet To Be Edited]

Hi all! I've finally got around to watching the sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey, which I watched at the start of last year.

Here's my UNCUT reaction to "2010: The Year We Make Contact" (1984), which as a standalone sci-fi film is really good. As a sequel, it's a different direction due to different directors etc, but also everything feels to take on a whole different meaning.

I liked that they explained the monoliths a little more and loved that they had "Dave" back again partially in this one.

Some eerie things happening in this "futuristic" world of what the 80s thought 2010 would look like.

Weirdly, I only felt the feel of the future at some points, as it felt very 80s most of the time. Odd, as I didn't feel that with the first film.

Other than that, a really great film with some brilliant tense moments.

You'll notice, much like "2001", I was extremely focused for most of the film as I was trying to understand everything going on. Knowing many have wanted me to watch it, I'd wanted to do it justice. I'm hoping I did just that!

Thank you for requesting it! I hope you're all well and have a wonderful day.

Also... the nurse in the hospital is reading a magazine that has a picture of Clarke and Kubrick on the front! 2001, like any work of art, is not for everyone. If my six-year-old self was going to give it a critique after my parents took me to see it one summer night at a Texas drive-in, it would be "This movie was boring and scary. I hate it." It took me until I was 21 to appreciate and actually love it. My opinion of 2010 has pretty much stayed the same over the years... entertaining but slightly underwhelming.

Very good reaction. I've always liked this movie as just a good adventure Sci-Fi I'm not really a fan of 2001. I know no one will agree but I think 2001 a bit overrated as an overall film, It's special effects were, of course, phenomenal. I'm glad That David above confirmed that the old man on the bench is Arthur C Clarke, I thought it was him but wasn't really sure. I've watched this movies a few times and everytime I'm looking at that Old man and saying Uhh is that Arthur C Clarke?😊

Scott Howard

Just finished watching this with you. I think I appreciate it more watching it with new eyes... I had forgotten how tense the whole situation with HAL was the first time I watched it. As enjoyable as the movie is I agree that it is rooted in the time it was made much more than the timeless original. I like to tell anybody who listens that 2001 could be considered cinematic poetry, while its sequel is more akin to prose. It's enjoyable but I don't think it has dated as well as the original. And yes, that is the VLA or Very Large Array in New Mexico that was also used in the movie Contact. I used to drive by it frequently when my parents lived in Albuquerque. Another nice little bit of trivia is that in the shots in front of the White House, the author of 2001 and 2010, Arthur C. Clarke, is the old man sitting on the bench on the left.
