DC20 Beta Development Livestream: Part 7

Comments

Along with traps and demolition, sabotage would fit in as well. Imagine an army, in theatre, moving through a territory with a squad of rangers. And these rangers are blowing up caravans, setting traps, creating pitfalls, ruining bridges, roads and fords. They are sniping, destroying siege equipment, setting mounts free, and sowing so much chaos and fear and the army is so demoralized, that they turn back before ever mounting a attack or engaging in battle. RANGERS!

Manuel Carrillo

Alertness, initiative bonus,

Manuel Carrillo

Blow gun

Manuel Carrillo

Nets, lasso's, whips, boomerangs, bolas, similar weapons that can be used to help manage animals

Manuel Carrillo

In there or in the terrain types while conducting some kind of operation rangers should be the most dangerous in theater

Manuel Carrillo

I know barbarians in the DND system are tough. But I honestly think rangers should be as tough or tougher

Manuel Carrillo

Or you can be a warden the day-to-day ho-hum is just taking care of herds but in a pinch You're sling lions, you're taking down Giants, etc etc

Manuel Carrillo

Actually a cowboy ranger makes sense. Or a shepherd Ranger. But maybe that goes back to the warden/protector type of Ranger

Manuel Carrillo

I have been a lifelong d&d player. Granted it's been off and on. But I've played the basic as well as the first edition second edition to quite the break and now I'm playing fifth edition and the group that I play with 5th edition we are Gaga over the possibility of getting to play DC 20. Can't wait to see the final results!

Manuel Carrillo

If you read this, hydration check please!

Manuel Carrillo

So yeah one point per level to be saved or expended to learn how to survive and thrive within a different terrain. And those terrain types would be weighted so it would take longer or you would have to spend more points in order to specialize in or exotic terrains. I voice to text as I drive on my way home so forgive the typos

Manuel Carrillo

Going back to the thought about rangers being able to operate as a ranger in different types of terrains, I think as the Ranger levels, they should be able to specialize in more and more terrains. Maybe there's a point system where common terrain like desert forest grasslands mountains just take one point. And then more the more exotic the terrain the longer it would take or the harder it would be to operate with that kind of ranger specialty within that terrain. So for example extra planner would be a three or a four. Underdark would be a two. Underground well that's under dark. The sea might be a two The an island may or may not be considered its own type of terrain because you're surrounded by water and have limited resources or whatever I don't know. Maybe in the treetops if that would be considered a terrain if you have species that live in treetops. Living in the air but then that might be more of an elemental thing which then is an exotic terrain and very difficult to master well. Extremes well anyway

Manuel Carrillo

About the trap Ranger, explosives, special weapons, ambush all kind of fit together

Manuel Carrillo

I think making a contrast between wardens who protect communities areas of nature as well as animals versus the hunter type of Ranger makes sense

Manuel Carrillo

What about giving the Ranger the ability to enhance their senses magically site sound hearing touch and to maybe even allow them to operate in a in theater thinking very military-like without sleep beyond the normal extent that a humanoid could operate without rest

Manuel Carrillo

With a ghillie suit and maybe some magical means to create camouflage dead in sound

Manuel Carrillo

I can see the horizon Walker Ranger as a subclass that someone would want to pick up in an extra planar campaign and higher level

Manuel Carrillo

Oh another idea would be like being a part of nature like the thing the swamp thing that's what I'm thinking of. Where by virtue of and this goes back to this idea of that someone else had about a witcher Ranger using incantation curses some kind of alchemical concoction or really weird magic to transform the Ranger into not druid but something that is very attached to a particular terrain. But then with all kinds of really cool swamp thing kind of features. That could be the swamp thing it could be the forest thing it could be the desert thing or this could be something completely different from a Ranger maybe more tied to The druid class

Manuel Carrillo

Unless that type of terrain is very exotic

Manuel Carrillo

I also found the Ranger class a bit restrictive in the fact that they specialize in only one type of terrain. I think they should be adept at spending time in jungles deserts mountains, etc. I don't think that it should be limited to just one type

Manuel Carrillo

And give each of these subsets a small package of magic to enhance their specialty whether it's weapons, scouting, demolition, sniper, etc

Manuel Carrillo

Water ranger like a Navy SEAL

Manuel Carrillo

I think of rangers like special operators having or working in a squad each with their own specialty within the group. For example demolition, sniping, scouting, weapons,...

Manuel Carrillo

Demolitionist Ranger

Manuel Carrillo

Master of the bow. Master of or weapon specialist. Possibly some kind of rogue-like ambush damage. Master marksmanship.

Manuel Carrillo

Survival, hunting, sniping, scouting

Manuel Carrillo

Are green beret troop multiplier and weapons specialist

Manuel Carrillo

Sniper scout

Manuel Carrillo

Warden, scout, special operations

Manuel Carrillo

Naturalist Ranger, biologist

Manuel Carrillo

Witcher subclass for Ranger is pretty iconic to me.

Will Eggert

Is that DC20 one-shot available? If it is available and if time allows, I plan to run it at my local game shop.

Travis Burgess

Please do provide plenty of magic items in the default game. DM’s have enough to do without creating a bunch of magic items :).

Travis Burgess

So when was this?

Chad Geraghty

Is there also one today? The patron livestream

Levi Ward

Morning!

Chad Geraghty

Good morning!

Brett Houlberg

Seems if I leave work early I can make it... We'll see.

Markus Raab

I saw that Discord says Tuesday the 13th and mentions the date change

Damian Spence

Yes! Or should say the 14th as they are usually on Wednesdays.

Christopher Mendez

Typo, should say Tuesday instead of Wednesday. Hype!!!
