356 - CHINATOWN (1974) + THE CONVERSATION (1974)

Hosts Josh and Jamie continue Noirvember with a discussion of two iconic 1974 neo-noir conspiracy thriller masterpieces celebrating their 50th anniversaries: Roman Polanski’s gorgeous and upsetting New Hollywood pastiche of a Raymond Chandler-esque 1930s LA noir in CHINATOWN (1974) and Francis Ford Coppola’s character study of obsession and loneliness as an anxious Hitchcockian espionage voyeur-thriller set in the world of freelance surveillance tech dorks THE CONVERSATION (1974).

See you all in a week's time where we'll be back over on the main feed with a special guest concluding Noirvember with SO LONG AT THE FAIR (1950) + PANIC IN THE STREETS (1950). Keep it sleazy!

For a not insignificant chunk of my teenage years, I thought the closing lines of Chinatown were: "I'm the one out there every day putting his ass on the line. And I'm not out of order! You're out of order! The whole freaking system is out of order! You want the truth? You want the truth? You can't handle the truth! 'Cause when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo that was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do! Forget it Marge, it's Chinatown!"

Whoa, I’ve proposed each of these movies the last two Patreon polls! But I didn’t think about how good the two of them would go together! Excited to check it out.
