The Queen's Gambit Episode 4 (2020) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

A tragic story, through and through.

I just love the editing, the glances, the movements... EVERYTHING!

I'm constantly worried for Beth, it feels like she's just one decision away from things getting really bad for her.

I'm also really curious what she'll do next, how she'll improve!

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thanks for that, I completely forgot there was a date at the beginning to help us know her real age! It makes sense they don't allow the game to be adjourned now since, like you said, a player could go back and get technology to help lol I appreciate this info!!

My pleasure 😊

I feel like it can't pick up more than it's already going, but colour me excited!! :D

As for Beth's age, the first episode shows the paperwork for her admission to the orphanage gives her birthdate as November 2, 1948. The tournament in Mexico City is a few weeks after she graduates high school in 1966, which would make Beth a few months shy of 18 years old. As for time control, classical games in the 60's were usually something like 2 1/2 hours for the first 40 moves, then an additional hour for every 16 moves after that. So, they could easily be 5 hours into a game as long as they were past move 40.... As for adjourning a game, that isn't really done anymore because modern chess computers make it unfair. After an adjournment, either player could just go back to their room, plug the position into the computer, and let the computer tell them how to play. However, back in the day, it was fairly common if the game ran long. One person would secretly write down their final move, then both players would leave for the evening. That way, when the players analyzed the position that night, both would be analyzing a position where it was their opponent's move.....

Great episode, if I recall correctly now the show really picks up. (Not that it was slow before.) Been a while since I last watched it but I think now the show starts to expand a bit more, I could be wrong tho. :D Anyway excited for next week!
