The Karate Kid (1984) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

The winner of the "All about kids" poll!!

Such a feel good, and heartwarming story! It just goes to show that a simple story can be done so well.

I'm just shocked that the main actor was 22 while filming this. He definitely looks much younger!

Seeing movies about teenagers really makes me happy that my teenage years were nothing like this. I had no interest in dating so I'm glad I never watched any teenage romance movies, I would have found them as ridiculous as I do now 🤣

Miyagi sensei is such a wonderful character. He basically got to be around the child he never had 😭

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thank you so much everyone for your support, you are amazing!!

That would be a shocker for sure! It's sometimes very surprising hearing what an actor actually sounds like

when I first saw an interview with Pat Morita, I was heartbroken that he didn't sound like Mr Miyagi lol

The movie is absolutely amazing, I loved all of it except for the love aspect. I never cared for that kind of highschool love/romance, which was depicted very similarly in the 90s/2000s. I didn't like, nor care for it while I was growing up, and I still don't like it now lol. Also, I have been bullied, but I didn't act like Daniel at all, it's just that different people act different ways and relate differently. That's the thing about everyone having different personalities and life experiences, we can relate more to certain people. It's definitely an absolutely fantastic movie, one I would recommend to others 🤩

Sometime it's a bit difficult to watch people now, watch and comment on movies we saw when we were in our 20's, people seem a bit more cynical today. At the time this movie was amazing and from a genre that may be stale today, just from your attitude, but was very fresh back then. This was basically best story at the time since the first Rocky. Coincidentally it is directed by the same director as Rocky. Another thing that went over your head, and you I am sure have never served in the military, but 1) Miyagi's wife died in an internment camp, American citizens who were of Japanese descent were taken from their homes and placed what was basically concentration camps in the us and this while he served heroically in the military. 2) the award Daniel read when he said valor, well the was the Congressional Medal of Honor. Also given what Daniel went through, I saw nothing wrong in how he treated Ali, it was the normal give and take in a young relationship. Daneil was the only one on the movie who had to adjust to trauma, being uprooted from the east coast and all of his friends, then being bullied. If you have never been bullied then maybe you could not understand all that he was going through. When I saw it in the movies, it was so heart felt by the audience and as the movie ended, as the credits rolled, it focused on Mr. Miyagi's expression and people were crying. It is one of the best movies of all time.

The KK movies and Cobra Kai are all awesome. up there with the Rocky/Creed franchise to me.

It is a simple story, but it is actually Very Deep. 1. East coast vs West coast. 2. How hard it can be if have to move to new school. 3. Campy romance but all have been there at one time or another, at least we got some sweet songs from it. 4. Bullying people. 5. Mentor - student and how it affects everyone. 6. No one is perfect, even Daniel did bad things. 7. It tackles racism with how Mr. Miyagi was treated and the history of internment camps during WW2. 8. Winning a MOH is no joke. It like winning the Victorian Cross/ Red Star etc. You are a total badass. That is why "Always look eye" is partially why that line is so important. Miyagi did so much gangster stuff that if he flaunted it Mr. Kreese would have to salute him (and probably would have). 9. It deals with how to win and lose and what do if the refs are corrupt/ incompetent. 10. Classism...just because someone is poor does not mean they are not a good person. Those are just off the top of my head. They are woven into the story seamless, unlike modern movies. It is why the movie holds up even today as a good one. A better reaction that your last several. Take care. Strike Hard, Strike First, NO mercy! -Cobra Kai motto

Daniel-san and Mr. Miyagi's relationship is definitely more felt by adults. I think this is a well crafted movie because as a kid you're obviously more focused on the karate, then rewatching it when you're older, there's another aspect that hits you in the feels lol

I'm pretty sure I've heard this said many times in my life but never knew it was from this lol

Wax on. Wax off.

I’m really looking forward to watching your reaction to this tomorrow. I always liked this movie - as a kid it was mainly about the karate, the underdog story and my crush on Elisabeth Shue, but having watched it (several times now) as an adult, I really love and appreciate the relationship between Daniel and Mr Miyagi. It really tugs at my heartstrings, the special bond, filling the gaps of the absent father and son never known. Plus I just find everything more emotional as I get older, so character relationships are much more important to me now.
