Airplane! (1980) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

The second winner of the Parody Patreon poll from... a while ago 😅

I missed the end credit, so here is the reaction to it! https://youtu.be/9dLHYR9RJ7A

So many things that I've said in the past come from this masterpiece!! The amount of thought that went into this movie seems insane! There are little details everywhere 🤩

The movie is pure fun, and the start of my Leslie Nielsen journey it seems. I also need more comedies like this one.

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thank you so much everyone for your support, I couldn't do this without you 🥰

I hope this type of comedy comes back around! I'm not sure what the common style of comedy is called these days, but I think maybe it has to do with the actors bringing the comedy instead of letting the writing be the comedy.

Really glad you reacted to this. I have seen loads of bits from it throughout my whole life but never actually watched the whole thing. So much fun, very much my kind of humour. Another more recent parody film that I think is very underrated is They Came Together. It’s a parody of romantic comedies so not exactly the same as this but a similar type of humour. There’s also the tv show Angie Tribeca, similarly under-appreciated, which is a parody of police procedurals. I’m not sure why this kind of comedy doesn’t seem to be popular anymore, but maybe someday it’ll come back around.

That's one thing that I'm quite aware of... humour changes a lot over time! So things that were funny/said in the 80s/90s are no longer seen as funny. So I go into comedies with an open mind :D

Great reaction, Verowak. i like how you were open to the humor and how much you enjoyed it. Simpatico! Made it a lot more fun for me. I saw this movie twice in the theater over consecutive nights.

Carl Evans

- The beach scene is from the classic movie "From Here To Eternity". "Shrek 2" referenced the same scene. - The white suit disco scene is from the John Travolta movie "Saturday Night Fever".

The inside joke is that the taxi passenger is played by Howard Jarvis, a notorious anti-tax politician who would never have stood for being treated like that. His main claim to fame was to get California's Proposition 13 passed, which drastically cut California's property taxes. This had the unintended side effect of gutting California's public education system (because schools are funded by property taxes) and which led to California's current homelessness and housing problems (because cities don't zone land for housing because they don't get any tax revenue for it).

All three of those would be great another one that would be good is “The Incredible Shrinking Man” which I think would surprise you.

Scott Howard

I'm going to watch "Jaws" next!😊

Ahh thanks for all of that, I definitely would never have caught those! I briefly looked up Forbidden Planet on imdb and the "More like this" section had a bunch that I've heard of and am curious about! It also gave me the idea to do some movies in the future where I watch the original and the remake/reboot (The War of the Worlds, The Time Machine, etc)

Verowak

Top Gun and Rambo are movies/franchises that I want to watch, so I'll know to check out Hot Shots afterwards, thanks!

Verowak

A great first movie to watch!!! I feel like I was just laughing all the time 🤣

Verowak

Here it is!! I missed it somehow https://youtu.be/9dLHYR9RJ7A

def don't bother with Zero Hour, just lookup YT "airplane zero hour side by side" (old Leslie Neilson movies are also boring) Top Secret! should be next up, whenever you're in the mood for this kinda movie again. Then Naked Gun. Beyond that, I absolutely love the two Hot Shots movies, but you kindaaa need a solid base knowledge of other movies to appreciate them (at least Top Gun & Rambo)

hobocamp

You missed the end credit scene!!! Airplane! was one of the first movies to feature one.

Chris Gronau

Oh, this was fun, one of my favorites and my first full movie with you here on Patreon. Great reaction!

ded cowbowee

Many pop culture references in the satire, some are dated where viewers younger than boomers miss... the husband having a second cup of coffee takes off from a TV coffee commercial... many film and TV actors throughout... Lloyd Bridges from TV's Sea Hunt (Jeff Bridges' father), Robert Stack played Elliot Ness in the TV series The Untouchables, the woman who spoke jive was Barbara Billingsly who was the mom in the Leave It to Beaver TV series, Peter Graves was the lead in (all but the first season) the TV series Mission: Impossible, the taxi passenger with the multi-thousands payment was Howard Jarvis, a tax policy activist responsible for passage of California's Proposition 13 in 1978. For a great film where Leslie Nielsen is the serious lead, the film Forbidden Planet is a great start.

Cliff Adams

I see what you did there 😂

Verowak

The Naked Gun is a real tearjerker. Not at all like this comedy. Probably.

OrangeLion

100%! Through this channel, I'm learning what type of comedy I enjoy and there are some great movies!

Verowak

Woohoo I've been looking forward to this! If ever there was a type of comedy you were going to love it was this one 😃
