The Acolyte 1x07 * FULL LENGTH REACTION

As is with all TV series, I have no idea how they will be wrapping this up. It feels like they are planning for a second season, and if it doesn't happen, this season may just end on a kind of cliffhanger.

When I first watched this episode, I found it silly that Jedi were being un-Jedi like, but in all honesty I started thinking how Anakin has acted as a Jedi, and I realized that it's good to see Jedi not be perfect. Torbin is making mistakes based on what he feels (he wants to go home) and Sol seems hyper focused on Osha (ignoring Jedi teachings and relying on feelings), but to me, this shows that they are not perfect.

All this to say that my initial reaction is to be upset with how they are acting, but then again, it's just because they are acting unexpectedly. They are not all like Mace Windu who follow the Jedi code to the letter.

While it is nice to see, I really think the 30 minute episodes are making the pacing of this series very odd. It feels like not enough things happen, and things are progressing at a snail pace πŸ˜…

I'm very curious to see how this season will end πŸ€”

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Honestly your last line explains so much of the show's direction. They don't answer all the questions immediately, you have to wait (which it seems like a LOT of people don't want to do). If this wasn't set in the Star Wars universe, people would like it a lot more, since they wouldn't have all the previous information to make assumptions from (Jedi, Sith, the Force, etc). The show is set in a different time, and if we go back 100 years IRL... things were VERY different. So we should all remember that we can't really expect the Jedi in The Acolyte to be exactly like the Jedi in the movies. We do see that no one is perfect, and especially Jedi. It's so important to see this! Jedi making mistakes (Sol instantly killing Mother Aniseya for example). Seeing a fight between Jedi was great! It was really well done. My episode 1 rewatch helped me ignore the things that I dislike about the series (mostly revolving around the acting/physicality of some characters). I think the first episode was made in the style that things used to be done (not sure if it's still done like this), but having a pilot to pitch to studios. So the pilot may give us more information than they should, but they're trying to give enough info to go on for the studios to want to pick up the series and continue with it. Seeing all of this though, I appreciate how the subsequent episodes don't retain that style. It feels like a show that starts off clunky put they get in the groove of things the more episodes in we are. I do like how the Jedi keep their lightsabers away for some fights and just dodge out of the way. We see that with Indara when Mae first attacks her, and it reminded me that Sol did that too. I don't know how to explain it, but "House of the Dragon" and "The Acolyte" are both thrillers, but I would say that HotD is an adult thriller, while Acolyte is a family thriller if that makes sense. It doesn't have the same sense excitement (for me at least).

Oh I'd love to hear more about your thoughts on the episode 1 rewatch! Honestly having seen The Last Duel may have have a bit of a positive impact on how I'm viewing the series now because of the multiple perspective thing. I actually really liked this episode! So much more was explained and we got the absolutely fantastic action set piece with Kelnacca to finally see a live-action wookie jedi in action! Something I thought was well done about this is that no-one was objectively "correct" here. Everyone acted in a way that pretty much made sense with the information they had, and as Indara kept saying "we don't have all the information". The whole situation was messy where everyone makes mistakes. Throw in a little witch magic messing with your head and it's a big powder keg ready to explode. No-one in Star Wars is perfect and no-one (not even us as the viewers) have all the facts yet. Even Torbin wasn't fully to blame here really. I've no doubt that the witches getting in his head messed with him and dialed up his desire to leave to 11. Kelnacca was possessed for a few minutes but is still carving that symbol obsessively onto his walls 16 years later so clearly it has a lasting effect. I'll be honest, the whole "you must have suppressed desires" thing didn't go exactly where I thought it was going to go initially but I'm glad it didn't go there with her trying to seduce him or something πŸ˜‚ I find it super interesting that Mother Aniseya and Indara both wanted what was best for Osha, and that they thought it was to let the other group look after them. Like yourself, in the lead up to the episode I fully thought the Jedi just straight up murdered everyone and that the fire was a convenient cover-up, but I guess Mae really did destroy the place. Whoops. It still seems odd that Indara (maybe accidentally?) killed them all with her mind to kick them out of Kelnacca? But to the show's credit, every time I've questioned something like that in the series so far they've done a good job at explaining it in a later episode so I'll practise the jedi trait of being patient lol.

We're definitely seeing the Jedi in a different light, which is definitely upsetting for some. The more I see the series, the more I like that they Jedi are messing up and not perfect πŸ˜‚

also Chewbacca would be around 80 years old during the events of The Acolyte.

To be fair. Mace Windu was about to assassinate the Chancellor until Anakin stopped him. Which is exactly what Sol was going to do to Qimir before Osha stopped him. Both events happened right after a fight were multiple Jedi were killed. Its actually kinda suspicious how similar those events are. Sorry I just had to play devils advocate there.

People are unhappy that this show paints the Jedi as perpetrators, but it's really just these four Jedi, and only two of them are masters. Torbin is just a child, no real Jedi complains about the food on a mission! :D As for Sol, I like that the perfect character is no longer perfect.
