I'm glad to see you did a reaction for this movie. It's my favorite Christmas movie of all. I named my dog Ralphy after the kid in this movie. I also would like to wish you a happy birthday in advance. I hope you're doing well. 💜

I meant to look up who the narrator was because he was great! Thank you for saying who it was 😊 Close Encounters is a movie that I'd like to watch at some point, since I've always heard the name but just know it's about aliens. The parents were wonderful in this movie, and I'd be up to seeing them in other movies for sure

They played it for a whole day? That's the best way to get people tired of it :( I am down for the sequel next year, I absolutely loved Peter Billingsley and hope the sequel is done well!

I love finding out where random pop culture references are from! Like Frageelé. It's neat when we say a word and it turns out it's from the movie we're watching. It's like fitting puzzle pieces together that we didn't know fit!

Thanks for your reaction to Jean Shepherd's homage to childhood Christmas (he was the film's narrator). I'm familiar with the actors who played the Ralphie's parents - the late Melinda Dillon was in "Close Encounters..." and Darren McGavin when he starred in a sometimes creepy series playing an investigative reporter, Kolchak. The series "The X-Files" paid tribute to "Kolchak" many years later.

It really is a genuinely great movie. I wish that TBS (I think) hadn't started doing that 24-hour marathon, because it automatically created a backlash of people saying the movie was overrated. I mean, yeah, if you play any movie for 24-hours straight, people will get sick of it.

I remember always talking about this movie through the other 11 months of the year after it came out. Over time the fun of this started to die down because they began playing it an entire day, Christmas Eve to Christmas evening. Then we started getting reaction videos from people who have never seen it. That brought the fun and the magic of the movie back to light. Last year we got a long awaited sequel to this. Previously there were two lesser known movies that never lived up to the original. A Christmas Story Christmas with Peter Billingsley all grown up. How was it? I suggested that movie to a few other reactors but no one else watched it. Your schedule is very likely full for the end of the year so maybe, just maybe, next Christmas for the sequel? All I will say is, if I have to wait a whole year to see a reaction to it, I will very happily wait.

Okay, so I'm at the part of the reaction when the leg lamp arrives. You instinctually did the "frageelee" joke, even before the dad said the line. I'm pretty sure this movie (which has a cult following) was the origin of the "mispronouncing fragile" joke. It's always interesting when reactors stumble upon movies which were the origins of jokes or pop culture vernacular. I recently was watching a another reactor do a movie in which the word "boomstick" originated from. The reactor automatically said "boomstick" before the character did, then was surprised when it was spoken in the movie about 10 seconds later. (Incidentally, you can also buy leg lamps now, inspired by this movie.)
