Mission Impossible 2 (2000) | FULL LENGTH REACTION

Hey my dudes, it's Wednesday!!!!

Continuing the Mission Impossible franchise with MI:2, and I have to say, this was not at ALL what I expected.  It felt very different from Mission Impossible, and I can see why this one is not a fan favorite.

That being said, I'm curious how MI 3 will be, and how it will... save the franchise?

It was very nice seeing Thandiwe Newton in this (formerly credited as Thandie Newton)!  It seems she has a whole slew of movies for me to watch, since I first saw her in Westworld, so anything before then has passed under my radar.  It seems like she's been in a lot of movies, which is good, I think she's a great actress!

This movie felt like Tom Cruise did less acting and more action, and it also seemed like he's just great/perfect at everything.  Definitely not a standout movie for me.

I did have fun watching it though, since it felt overall ridiculous and so different from the first one.

Heads up there will be a poll on Patreon within the next 2 weeks!  Discord helped narrow down the genre, there is currently a YT poll to choose the genre, then I will pick a movie of that genre for each decade between 1980-2020, where we will have the Patreon poll to decide which movie I'll watch!

I'll make a post to ask for movie suggestions for that genre here within the week, and I'll also consult my list of movies to watch to help decide which movies go on the poll.

Reminder that you need your own copy of the movie to watchalong, and that there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

Mission Impossible 2 (2000) | FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

As a one-off, this movie would have been great, but it just didn't feel anything remotely like the first Mission Impossible lol. I'm really looking forward to MI3 hoping that they go back to how the first one felt, and your comment is giving me that hope!! I don't know if I remember what other movies have Abrams shaky cam, I remember he does lens flares though πŸ˜‚

Finally, the MI reactions continue. Yeah, as I've alluded to in previous comments, MI2 feels very much the outlier in this series. I think if it existed as a one-off movie, people might feel more forgiving and view it as a fun guilty pleasure. However, within the context of the whole series, it's a bit of a black sheep. If they'd stopped making these movies after MI2, few people would've been disappointed. (Thankfully Cruise persisted and saw how much gold remained untapped.) When you see the different approach that MI3 takes with the storytelling and the way Ethan Hunt is portrayed--it literally feels like they all sat in a meeting, cued up MI2, and said, "Okay, here are a few things we'll never do again." As such, MI3 practically feels like a soft reboot. (P.S. J.J. Abrams directs MI3. Hopefully you're okay with the Abrams shaky-cam. If not, you might have to avert your eyes at times.)
