Movie Stunt Draft
Added 2025-08-03 13:00:09 +0000 UTC
Lights, Camera, Action! AN EGG are drafting the best movie stunts, according to them, in the movie stunt draft. What qualifies as a stunt? The definition is a little fuzzy but what matters is that these are the best ones of them. Who had the best picks? Which ones did we miss?
i'm surprised no one chose the dude getting run over by a horse in The Three Amigos
Tony
2025-10-05 19:07:09 +0000 UTC
gavinsargument is kinda right, a car flip stunt wihtout a driver all being done by an air cannon is like the jackass hose rodeo without a rider riding the hose, its just a lose hose, not a stunt then.

Could easily redo this one. Or a JackAss draft, Or a fight scene draft. Or a Jackie Chan Draft

Really sad Electric Avenue from Jackass 3D didn’t make Geoff’s list
Anthony Perez
2025-08-23 06:02:54 +0000 UTC
This is all, 100%, based on what the guys like, but I am sad there were no Jackie Chan stunts. Infamously, and constantly, fucked himself up doing all the stunts. The Police Story, falling down the side of the building / through the mall? Jesus Christ.

I think the baby driver stunt is really cool, but as someone from Atlanta, where's the traffic??
Jack Armstrong
2025-08-22 20:15:44 +0000 UTC
If a car flips and no one is in it, it’s a practical effect. If someone was in it it would be a stunt.

I can't believe Gavin didn't pick the crocodile scene from "Live and Let Die".
Cody McRae
2025-08-12 04:01:52 +0000 UTC
LOVED this, it is a shame that no Hong Kong films made the list but at least you honorably mentioned some of them. Michelle Yeoh hanging onto the side of the car in Police Story, Jackie Chan sliding down the pole busting through all the exploding lights, having to be hospitalized afterward were definitely the first that come to mind for me, but there are so many to choose from.
vibin_psilocybin
2025-08-11 19:01:48 +0000 UTC
Well there’s no one in the car while it’s actually flipping, only before the flip

This has to be sarcasm, right? They consistently have some of the worst movie opinions I’ve ever heard
Preston Collins
2025-08-10 22:55:50 +0000 UTC
Ironically Eric loves to have the Conservative Talking-Head argument method of just sounding like you’re so above the other person and acting like their point is the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard despite the fact that you’re 100% wrong
Preston Collins
2025-08-10 22:51:11 +0000 UTC
They stopped the Ong Bak scene a second before one of the best parts.

2025-08-09 18:32:47 +0000 UTC
What a incredible draft. Everyone had great pics. I agree with Gav that someone should be in the stunt to count.
klok
2025-08-09 01:26:08 +0000 UTC
I’m surprised no one picked a Jackie Chan scene. They should do a Jackie Chan stunt draft. Also best Jackie ending scene draft (where they show where that mess up in the stunt).

2025-08-08 02:39:53 +0000 UTC
On either side of the argument though; Eric loves to cut people off while they’re explaining and then get mad at a different argument that nobody is making.
Brian Burkhardt
2025-08-07 20:22:20 +0000 UTC
By definition it’s supposed to be an “action” so somebody has to be doing it. If the car was empty (which, apparently somebody was in it anyway), it wouldn’t *technically* be a stunt.
Brian Burkhardt
2025-08-07 20:21:46 +0000 UTC
I think if a scene doesn’t have a stunt person in it, it’s not a stunt. It’s just a scene.

2025-08-06 19:48:59 +0000 UTC
The Casino Royale crash did have a stunt driver in it, so that one counts.
It's a 5 way tie for me as everyone had two standout stunts.
Ghost Rider & The Protector for Gav, Firehose Rodeo & Bungee Jump for Geoff, Death Proof & Used Cars for Eric, Ong Bak & Buster Keaton for Andrew, and Rogue Nation & Casino Royale for Nick
nick hemley
2025-08-06 10:57:10 +0000 UTC
I was really hoping Geoff would pull something from Lazer Team just to poke fun at the Burndog

The car scene from Death Proof was the first one I thought of.
Fuck yeah, Eric.

I'd probably add the chase scene from Bullit, the getaway scene from The Transporter, the safe drag scene frombFast and the Furious.

Hello 👋 Special Effects (SPFX) Technician here, I’m with Gavin it would 100% be a SPFX effect. If there are no people involved at all it’s covered by SPFX. If there are people involved SPFX and Stunts work together.
I have worked on many of shows/films like Gavin (like Gen V, Now You See Me 3, Twisted Metal, Chucky to name a few) and every car flip/explosion we’ve done without actors/stunt actors was 100% in our care.

It's so rare for me to agree with Gavin but a stunt is absolutely something done by a person. If you just flip a car with nobody anywhere involved, nobody is performing a stunt, it's just a practical effect. It's insane that nobody else could get that, it's really basic.
Babs Scriven
2025-08-05 01:02:07 +0000 UTC
Can't vote for Eric or Nick because they picked stunts that didn't involve bodily risk ... so I'm going to go with that rule.

I discount anything from Jackass as bits not stunts. Just a bunch of people doing random (but funny) stuff. Getting hit by a giant hand you didn't know was coming? Not a stunt, thats something happening to you.

I would have chucked in the fast and furious vault pulling scene. Actually pulling the vault plus a stunt driver in the vault at times.
Also a stunt has to have someone doing the stunt, which casino royale did.
Vanishing point didn't, so it's practical effects and disqualified.

In Lone Survivor, they filmed that practically. No dummies, no wires. The stunt coordinator told the stunt men to fall 15-20 feet off cliffs, don't look at the ground until right before impact, land however they land, and then just go with it.
The stunt men reportedly said that after what the men in the real gunbattle went through, it's the least the stunt men can do, and it's an honor.

My friend’s uncle was the stuntman for the Indiana Jones truck climb. When he was actually climbing under the truck, there was a trench between the wheels with dust blown over it to make it look solid. Still required a ton of strength, and when it cuts to him dragging, he really did that.

Man, I can’t lie, first half of this one was a tough listen. Usually I find it fun when it’s clear they’ve established no rules and boundaries for a draft ahead of time but when it gets into bad faith arguing and belittling I just don’t really enjoy it. My personal experience only!

2025-08-04 00:17:18 +0000 UTC
TBH, this didn't end up being that exciting. A lot of this felt like people-getting-hurt-in-movies draft, in which case they should have just done falls draft 2. A stunt should be some difficult choreographed sequence that requires skill. Man-holds-onto-hose or man-hit-with-foam-hand just don't seem like stunts.

Not the longest fight in the movie, but some nice camera work between different rooms, different props, and the squeeze through the little gate is really cool. Made a huge impression on me as a child.

Right? I understand Gavin not being able to narrow it down, but I was sure Andrew was going to do something from the Tuxedo as a bit.

Great draft, however I'm going to grumpy old man my pick for who had the best draft. First, as has been mentioned by others, the fact that no one picked a Jackie Chan stunt was disappointing, and even more disappointing that no one picked a stunt from The Tuxedo. Here is where I'll piss off the Regulation world, I don't consider the scenes from the Jackass movies to be stunts. In my mind stunts are shots where the action is incredible and the purpose is not to injure anyone. The whole point of Jackass is hurting people. So what that means to me is that any board that included a Jackass prank was eliminated from my vote, so that leaves Eric and Nick. I went back and forth, but I had to give it to Nick, because to be honest Eric's final pick of the ending of Vanishing Point was not up to par with the rest of his list, so my vote will go to Nick. Still a great draft video, even though I disagree on the stuntiness of many of the picks. now, get off my lawn!

I have to agree with Gavin on the Stunt take.
Per Merriam Webster: A Stunt is an unusual or difficult feat requiring great skill or daring.
So while not explicit, it does seem to indicate a *person* needs to be involved somehow
So unfortunately in my eyes, Nick and Eric are disqualified from my vote consideration
(Edit: Found out Adam Kirley was actually in the car for Casino Royale, therefore Nick is not disqualified)

Yeah, it didn't take long to google behind the scenes for that and see that the driver was very much in the car. They just changed the stunt from flipping the car with ramp to flipping the car with an explosive blast.

I feel like it's pretty simple to define a stunt. When all post effects are removed, do we see a performer risking bodily harm or deliberately being harmed?

Fun fact about the Indiana Jones stunt: the stuntperson who performed that had tried to do the exact same stunt the year before for a Lone Ranger movie, only with horses instead of a truck. It didnt go as planned and he was injured, but wanted a second chance in with Indy.

I agree that a stunt needs to have a person in it. I'm more conflicted on if the stunt person needs to know that they're doing a stunt. If what they did is pretty cool/funny, even by accident or as part of a prank, I think that would still be considered a stunt.

2025-08-03 15:52:53 +0000 UTC
100%. That's a cool effects shot. It's awesome to watch. But it's not a person performing a stunt. Happy to allow it in the name of peace, but no way I'd vote for a list that considers that a stunt. Edit: Others have brought up that there was actually a stunt man in that car, which is nuts but that does make it a stunt. However the spirit of the argument stands.
