Dark Souls Part 14!

Comments

This has been my favourite episode so far ^^

I feel like putting a birthday hat on the bed of chaos would have been an epic thumbnail. Haha. Looking forward to DLC!

The dragon on a bridge thing is really just something Miyazaki likes to put in his games and most of those are just there to be annoying. Demon's Souls, DS1, DS2, DS3, Elden Ring, they all have them. The fight itself just... isn't possible normally i feel, so it's mostly just cheesy. The thing you need to talk to the Fair Lady isn't just a thing on the ground in the undead asylum somewhere, you need a specific other item to get it.

Another great episode in the bag! Demon Ruins and Lost Isalith are widely regarded as the weakest areas in the game and there's actually a reason given for that by the developers. Basically they ran out of time and money before they could finish those areas and they reportedly had an intern finish up those areas in a short amount of time, which explains the random spam of pre-existing enemies throughout. There was little actual design thought put into it. It's also why Ceaseless Discharge and Bed of Chaos are such weird fights; neither of them were actually properly finished. Bed of Chaos in general is seen as the worst boss fight in Souls history, so at least you have that behind you now. You actually got sort of lucky there in the end, immediately finding and landing on the branch like that. Most players have to take many attempts to even be able to land on the branch before they get murdered by the boss (including me). You missed a bonfire closer to Bed of Chaos btw. It's hidden somwhere in the zombie dragon lake. It's of less use now, but it would've made runbacks to BoC a bit shorter. The part with the dragon on the bridge is just a weird encounter in general. There's no clear way to approach if you ask me. You can lure the dragon out by shooting it, but in your case it eventually went to walk on the bridge seemingly by itself. And then when you're finally past it, there's just not much there. A pretty useless shortcut to an early game area, a short conversation with Solaire and the statue can be used for a specific Covenant. Oh and i guess the bonfire serves as another warp point, which again isn't all that useful as the Undead Burg shortcut is already very close by. Might just've been another part of the game they didn't get to finish up properly. I totally expected another whole higher level part of Undead Burg/Parish to be explorable there. BTW, for some more background about spider lady, you may wish to look for a specific item in the Undead Asylum and then visit her. I feel like it's worth it. There's also two more things to find in Lost Isalith that are worth your time.

I second the Vaatividya suggestion, the prepare to cry videos are nice and short and focus on one NPC each, he also has a summary video of the story (it does have minor spoilers for DS2 and DS3 though from memory)

Welcome to Bed of Chaos, the WORST designed boss in the entirety of Souls game history. The one mercy is that the "roots" you break stay broken, at least giving you some form of progress. Very glad you cleared it pretty fast though, and stayed way calmer under it then I did when I first had to tackle it! Once you're done with Dark Souls and you still want some lore, make sure to look for VaatiVidya on Youtube. He has a "Prepare to Cry" series that highlights the best pieces of lore Dark Souls hides away. It's a great series and nearly sure to draw either awe or tears. 4/4 boss souls acquired! Can't wait for the next episode! Let's see you tackle the DLC!

Great episode, just finished :) Small suggestion, after DLC (or before, can be done whenever) it might be fun/satisfying for you to explore the 3rd path in Lost Izalith before the Bed of Chaos boss (you went right first, then left up the stairs to the boss door, but skipped the central stairs going down the middle of the two other paths—there are a couple different threads remaining). Not at all mandatory, but satisfying IMO (without saying anything specific :P)
