Dark Souls Part 4!

I get very cross so apologies if you hate watching rage :) Was a rough episode lol

Well not even rage just whiney bitching lolllll, anyway I'm off for the weekend, I need a break from the internet. I am getting some wild comments about women on the Fable trailer reaction video and its massively put me off YouTube again hahahahahahaha I'm so fickle. Naah I just need a refresh and restart, I am about to do a massive drive home though so I am nervous ahhh. Have a good weekend everyone!

Dark Souls Part 4!

Yeah lol I get it. I cheesed this fight my first time through (there's actually a very silly way to kill him without ever going into the room) - it's a little absurd. But the next boss you're probably going to encounter is one of the coolest in the game! PS: Highly recommend picking up the Repair Box - nice to have when your durability gets low and you're far from a blacksmith

Jacob

Your rage is so relatable… love the nice editing touch too <3. I’m not completely sure why this fight is so much more infuriating than the rest of the game : the mix of immediate tension, intense music mix with the disbelief and incredulity that someone would design this bullshit intentionnaly…lol. Kind of genius when you think about it… a few years remove from it :D

Enguerrand Leclerc

Your rage here was hilarious tbf. Capra is a bit of a bullshit fight, I think everyone feels that first time through. On subsequent playthroughs you can take the master key and avoid him altogether 🙂

Andy

Yup, I've seen a lot of people take a *lot* longer on the Capra Demon on their first playthrough (not me, of course... *ahem* not at all... >_>).

So like an idiot I sent you a £20 Thanks in the YouTube comments when this episode went live with this link https://www.amazon.co.uk/Koss-KSC75-Stereo-Headphones-Smartphone/dp/B0006B486K?th=1 for some apparently pretty decent clip-on headphones, forgetting that YouTube doesn't let you post links in comments any more. Of course, they were fine with taking my money without telling me and I can't even edit the comment, it's just gone. I feel so dumb sometimes. All that to say, obviously spend the money on whatever you want, I was just trying to be nice, but if you never saw the link I didn't want you to wonder why there was a Thanks with no message attached. Now I'm wondering if you even got the donation. Could you let me know? Anyway, I know you were pissed, but you actually did very, very well against Capra Demon. Since you were fighting him in a toilet, maybe he's the CRAPra Demon now. You beat him on your 5th attempt, which is nothing compared to a lot of people when it comes to these games. I've had Souls bosses that have taken me literal days to get passed. Obviously, having to spend a bunch of souls on the friendly damage snafu didn't help your mood, but you still played great. But I totally get what you're saying. When a game makes me feel like I'm fighting against its poor design, whether that's bad controls or geometry or a really over powered enemy, and it starts feeling like you're just rolling the dice for good RNG rather than learning and increasing my own skill, I always stop having fun and start getting cross. The game may actually still be teaching you something, but it doesn't feel like it. It was very entertaining, if that's any consolation, and I loved the little Zelda cracked hearts you put in. Did you make that yourself or find a clean animation somewhere? It's refreshing to hear you talk about something you didn't like about a game, which I can't remember if we've heard from you that much. Hope Walton is doing OK in this heat. Thoroughly entertaining episode, Amber.

I'd like to give a non-spoiler suggestion if you're interested: whenever you have the chance to talk to NPCs, especially at Firelink Shrine (but it goes in general), you should do so and exhaust any new dialogue (this often updates between key events such as killing a new boss). This furthers their NPC-specific storylines where applicable. Not doing this means missing out on certain subplots particular to certain NPCs. You haven't missed anything yet (certainly not that I can think of), but getting deeper into the game, this can begin to take effect. That said, not everyone cares about that sort of thing, and you can skip NPC subplots without much loss outside of lore and occasional rewards—just if it's something you'd like to pursue :) So many people go through this with the Capra Demon. Now that you've done it and it's not a spoiler, I will say the main trick to this fight, which you were partially taking advantage of, is using the stairs and the upper ledge. But whilst using them to funnel the dogs and kill them off is a great start, once you're one on one, using the ledge and drop-attacking the Capra Demon (remember the first boss? I forgot this move personally on my 1st playthrough haha) takes a great chunk out of his health. And if he follows you up, when he drops down, he has a long recovery animation from landing, leaving him open. I have to admit, I do quite like the Capra Demon now, several playthroughs in. I certainly did NOT like him for the first couple of playthroughs :P Definitely the laziest boss design in the game though IMO I'm loving your playthrough btw, don't worry too much about what people may think. I've seen other youtubers complain far more, and far less-rightfully, IMO—as soon as they meet one instance of difficulty or challenge. People get frustrated with games, but people like you who keep their cool are so much more pleasant to watch compared to people who go on a temper tantrum over it (which you didn't come close to, if that's your concern—you did little more than express your frustrations :P). Also sorry you have to deal with that in the comments. I just had a look, it's an instant bring-me-down. Do you have any youtube comment mods? A good mod can save you a lot of negative mental health effects in the long run—helped a lot for me, I used to run a channel about... oh fuck, 12 years ago now!? Don't think mods were even an actual youtube function back then, I just gave a friend access to my account :P

I stopped playing ds1 for a while (I came immediately from finishing ds3 which by comparison feels like a much smoother game) and had a lot of the same frustrations you had with the game feeling difficult in a frustrating/unfair way. To be honest I think you've actually done a really good job at adapting to the "patient" playstyle of ds1. Also I think most of the player base agrees that capra demon is a poorly designed boss fight, if not one of the worst in the series.

prince sidon

NICE! The Black Knight Sword honestly carried me through the game, super nice weapon (only downside is because its special you can't apply fire or lightning powder to it etc so I'd definitely have other weapons on rotation) You seemed to handle Capra Demon pretty ok, it took me like 3 hours until I just cheated and threw dung pies over the fog door lol

Johno3998

Capra Demon is what made me quit Dark Souls so I understand your frustration. I wish I knew about the sewer shortcut! Really liked the edits during the fight. At this point it's worth knowing that you can quickly drink a second estus if you tap square while you're drinking the first, it makes for quick full healing.

People are just dicks on the internet because there, they can be dicks and not face any real repercussions, or even have to look the person in the eye while they do it. And some are dicks just because they know it’s hurtful. In real life they wouldn’t have the courage to even say a word. Maybe that’s why they do it online in the first place. I know it’s cliché but try not to let it get to you. Their opinions aren’t important and neither are they. I thought this was still a lovely video. The patience meter was a nice touch! That fight (considering the camera angles and foliage) isn’t fair to the player. But you still did it in only a few tries! So I say, well done. Try to enjoy your weekend!

Nobody goes into the valley of the drakes this early and tries to fight them. At least not anyone I know. I would have just run past them for better loot and then use a bone. The most versatile build will always be magic in one hand, weapon in the other. The game presents a shield early on, so you learn to rely on it, but high skill plays in these games tend to be more aggressive without shields. If you attack basic enemies before they attack, you will stun them out of attacking you. Just have to keep an eye on your stamina so you know you can still roll away if need be. When you take damage, there are two options. Heal or kill whatever hurt you. You tend to choose the former. If you can kill it in one hit, I'd choose the latter. I keep coming back to Elden Ring because after you beat these games, collecting as much loot as possible and then experimenting with combinations of armor and weapons gives these games huge longevity, and ER has the best looking armor sets. I'm glad you're playing the original, because it will make you appreciate Elden Ring so much more. There are weapons in ER that are like Bloodborne, but sadly no trick weapons. Dark Souls has some cool spells and armor, but the weapons felt somewhat tame to me. Personally, I always try on every new item I get even if I don't have the stats for it. I want to know the move set of weapons and I want to know how it looks with different armor combinations. That's how I plan my stats. You're currently rocking what's called a "quality" build, which is basically balanced strength and dex. It will let you use the majority of weapons, but probably none of the most exciting ones, as well as missing out on spells. You didn't need to hit that vendor. Rolling won't anger anyone. Strength is the only stat you can kinda cheat by two handing a weapon you don't have enough strength for. The big sword you got could probably be used if you had the dex and two handed it. A halberd is always a safe choice, but they won't exactly carry you through a game like a spear will in Zelda. The range is always nice, but they will never hit the hardest. Sorceries go with intelligence and miracles go with faith. Elemental stuff like fire or lightning is almost always faith, and sorceries are more raw energy looking blasts of magic. Sorcery is probably more consistent, but miracles can have a far stronger advantage on some enemies. I'll let you figure out who is resistant to what. That wasn't a "real" boss. That was a normal enemy in an annoying space. Don't feel bad, everyone hates him. I don't remember exactly how Dark Souls works but I hope this helps.

Nathan Elkin

Good job, thanks for the content! Ditto to all the other comments. <3

James Newman

you did it!!! that's the most unfair boss fight in the game in my opinion. don't worry too much about the rest of the game :) also capra demon - totally not optional because he has that key to the depths that you needed. the devs are obviously masochistic

Dani

The Capra Demon is notorious for making players quit the game. Glad you persevered and came out of it victorious. There are still some cool things left in the game. Don't give up, skeleton!

Dylan

I remember getting really butthurt the first time I played Dark Souls around this point. Nearly quit but glad I stuck with it. Still my favourite FromSoftware game

Joe H

Oh god, those comments. I wasn't a fan of the trailer but people really need to learn to not push their emotions onto everyone else. I wouldn't take it personally though, those people probably sought out every video on Fable just to complain about the customizable character not looking the way they would customize it. Can't wait to watch this episode and play/rage along with you. Have a safe drive home and enjoy the weekend!

Flukemarm

I think it's time to crack open the old Simpsons Hit and Run and mellow out, ahahaha. Sorry to hear about the comments, I went back to check them out and 99% of them are super positive, it's just those 1% of sad sausages. They mustn't have seen the wheelbarrow.

Adam

Can’t say I blame you for being put off YouTube based on reading the comments, particularly if you sort by “new” instead of, “top.” It’s deeply sad how much of “gamer” culture has been swept up in various forms of organized hate. On a brighter note, thanks for sharing another dose of the good stuff! Your Fromsoft playthroughs always make my day. Edit: just finished. As others have said, Capra Demon is the most frustrating fight in the game for most people. It is the very reason for the reputation the series has. This fight *is* optional, but it’s also part of the “main path” for most players, so I think it’s absolutely fair to say it’s responsible for turning a lot of people off the series. Quite a few people quit at this fight and never came back, and I suspect Miyazaki never repeated a fight of this kind for exactly that reason. One final note. As the guy who kept recommending flame in one hand and weapon in another: good on you for trying it! Feel free to ignore this, but I realized after I saw you use it that I didn’t really explain what I was getting at when I suggested it, which was effectively to ditch the shield entirely and focus on a lighter, rolling-based build. The reason for my suggestion, FWIW, is because you started with and loved Bloodborne, which removed shields from the game. Consequently, I think it encouraged players to be a lot more aggressive and better at dodging, and it made fights (IMO) way more fun. Plus, since offhand equipment still increases your load, having a second weapon and shield in the offhand still slows you down. Again, cannot stress enough: feel free to ignore. No pressure. It is your play through. Just my two cents.

octopus for good

Have a great weekend ! Try not to let the idiots online ruin your good time & mood. The anonymity of the internet is almost always a positive, but it does allow for some crazies. And as for the mood in dark souls, that is simply par for the course.

J. P.

The comments on the Fable video are a bit bizarre. I did not realize that Fable is a religion and not a game series. The Internet's gotta Internet, I suppose. Don't let it weigh too heavily on you. Looking forward to diving into the latest Dark Souls episode 🥳

Trolez

no worries about the rage, everyone collectively hates the capra demon. also yeah, idiots in the youtube comments sections never cease to amaze, hope you enjoy your weekend! just a little edit here to say that the majority of the comments on the fable video are lovely and supportive, it's easier said than done but try disregard the idiots who are upset that women exist

ChilledGricken

Glad you like it. Sorry about the comments, that sucks. Have a safe trip.

The Mighty Pipe

Rage and Dark Souls go hand in hand, Amber, don't worry about it. Thanks for the video. https://imgur.com/a/1aeHdmq
