What's the big story? Ukrainian forces made tactical gains in Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk, while the other regions were mostly quiet.

What's the second story? The United States (finally) authorized the transfer of F-16 fighter planes to Ukraine.

•  The Azov Special Purpose Brigade has returned to the theater of war and was deployed in the Serebryanskyy Woods
•  The Operational tempo remains low in the Bakhmut area of operation (AO)
•  Ukrainian forces are advancing south, west, and east of Urozhaine
•  Ukrainian forces continue to probe Russian defense using reconnaissance in force at Dorozhnyanka
•  Ukrainian troops have advanced to the south of Novopokrovka
•  Ukrainian forces are expanding the breach of the Russian defensive lines from Robotyne to Verbove
•  Fighting continues near Nesterianka
•  The Russian Ministry of Defense claims Ukrainian Mk.5 uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) attacked the corvette Vasily Bykov, the Krivak-class frigate Pytlivyy, and the Russian-flagged gun runner Sparta-IV
•  The Hong Kong-flagged container ship Joseph Schulte arrived in Istanbul without incident after departing from Odesa on August 16
•  A Russian missile struck a legitimate military target in the Ukrainian town of Mezhova
•  Moscow was attacked by uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), with one striking a Moscow Expocenter building
•  The United States authorized the transfer of F-16 fighter planes currently in service with Denmark and the Netherlands to Ukraine
•  Germany provided Ukraine with two additional IRIS/T SLS air defense missile launchers
•  Sweden approved a 270 million euros military aid package which includes 180 million euros of explosive ordnance disposal equipment
•  The Czech Republic with transfer an undisclosed number of Mi-24 Hind attack helicopters to Ukraine
