Jae and Amanda, there’s actually an alternate ending to this movie where Robert Neville DOESN’T sacrifice himself and we learn that the zombie leader was mainly there to get the female zombie back and after extracting her blood for the cure, he gives her back to the leader and Robert, Anna and Ethan all drive to the colony together. It’s on YouTube and in my opinion was a much better ending and less sad.

He hasn't seen humans in years he's been talking to mannequins and the only living creature he's had for company is dead - he was on a suicide mission the night before when he drove his car into the dark... so casually eating breakfast with a woman and child talking about a colony of survivors is a lot to take in

On the news broadcast it said the infected was showing signs of rabies so technically we can't call them zombies. Also early in the movie we see Will putting what we assume to be vinegar on his steps to hide his scent. So it not hard to believe the infected people tracked his scent to the video store he went everyday from their warehouse. Lastly when he was shooting at the buildings before he fell in their trap, he realizes the buildings was blocking the sun cover of the street. He obviously should've left then, but he thought he was losing it and of course underestimated what the infected could do.

I’m pretty sure they changed the ending on all platforms. The one y’all saw isn’t actually the theatrical one. This is the alternate ending that they made cannon because of the sequel coming out. It was always the better one for most ppl anyway. Always liked this movie though. Even with the dated effects EDIT: never mind lol y’all actually watched the theatrical.
