The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King | Part 1 - FULL REACTION

I had so much fun watching this half of the film! Particularly because of how intense the stakes get and the suspense leading up to next weeks reaction. You really begin to feel anxiety for the fate of the people of middle earth. Enjoy :)

In the scene with the toast, to me Aragorn's face looks like it did in "The Two Towers" when he was trying to be polite and eat the stew. Poor Eowyn!

Even though not a lot of people watch these specific movies with you, I'm enjoying it! I've been playing your reactions while working on some of my work🀣

In the scene with Aragorn, and Eowyn and the toast, I think Aragorn was thinking how much he admires Eowyn's strength, and at the same time appreciating her beauty, and love she shows towards him, but is also mindful that his heart actually belongs to Arwen. Actor Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) is a consummate professional who has a long background in the theatre as well as film. The man is iconic. The secret Saruman referred to was the additional forces they didn't know about at the time, or knew but had no idea how many troops were involved...The black ships coming with pirate mercenaries, and the Haradrim with its many Oliphants, or possibly Shelob maybe killing Frodo, and the true strength of the Witch King of the Nazgul, or just how many orcs Sauron had, OR all those things combined. MOST sources say Gandalf being a Maiar, and the Witch King though powerful was still a man who became a wraith, and depended on Sauron, and the ring for his power. Whereas Gandalf was a powerful Maiar on his own, and was not a man technically...just had the body of one to interact with others would have in the end been able to defeat the Witch King. The scenery, and sets along with the music score for this film is as much a part of the trilogy as the director, and the cast. The writing was done by a master writer already years before the film. The "dragons" the Nazgul were riding after their horses were killed were called "fell beasts" I believe. It is too bad they didn't have the giant copter like flying things the dwarves had at the battle of five armies. They do not show it in this film, but Denethor was using a "Palantir" one of the "seeing stones" that Saruman had at Orthanc...both of these stones "caught" them by them trying to look into Morder, and Dol-Guldor to track Sauron, and Sauron caught their minds, and corrupted their minds, and what they saw through controlling what the stones showed them, etc. It drove Denethor into madness in the end, and pure corruption in Saruman. Billy Boyd has a beautiful voice, but the reverb to make it sound like he was in a grand hall kinda helped him a bit. Eowyn actually is extremely important, she is able to kill the witch king, where others could not. Legolas was indeed stating a prophecy about the king (Aragorn) seeking the paths of the dead.

Thank you for continuing to post these! The scene with the vanquished Saruman is just one of many illustrations of how excellent a man and king Theoden has become since we first met him. A warrior to be sure, but he also offers Grima a second chance. Even after Saruman pelted him with insults aimed at his most vulnerable insecurities, Theoden ignored him and kept talking to Grima, offering him the hand of mercy. What a guy!

Thank you, Oscar! Watching these with you feels like home.

I've so enjoyed these videos! Can't wait for Part 2 of RotK. The opening and the structure of this film is pretty spectacular. So glad you mentioned the sound design, especially; it so evokes the desperation and immediacy of the Ring at work. That whole sequence is such a masterclass of filmmaking!

Love this trilogy. However, these movies are so long, so I do not have much time to just sit and rewatch it by myself, so I'm glad you decided to do it. And I'm here rewatching it with pleasure, as well πŸ™‚

Writing this as I watch the beacon scene, it really is spectacular. The music is just incredible (I got chills too!) and I love that it reminds use of the scale of Middle Earth, since it takes at least a full day and night for the signal to reach Rohan. I really like these reactions too so I'm glad you're not put off by lower viewership! It's of course entertaining to watch your reaction to things you haven't seen before (especially when it's something I adore, like the Toy Story movies) but I enjoy watching people talk about movies they love in general. Your commentary is great! :D

I'm so glad you are sticking with these movies, even if they have a smaller viewership. I absolutely adore your reactions to them. It's always so interesting to get your perspective on the characters, you have such a deep understanding of their motivations. And it also just feels like watching movies I love with a friend, there is something so welcoming and comforting about your videos. This has been the highlight of my week so far! :)

Sarah

Ridiculously perfect films, great to see you stick to your guns and post these. I'm a newer patron and just want to say your commentary always makes it so much fucking fun. The lore is so deep but you are soooo in it, appreciate what you do!

Steph

I love these and am thrilled to watch them with you. It's nice to see your passion for these films.
