TGIF: Turkey and TV
Added 2022-11-25 17:01:55 +0000 UTCWelp, Happy Post Turkey Day to those that celebrate, and happy Friday to those that don't. We're still in Florida until tomorrow and can report that we've had an incredibly chill/low-key holiday.
Is there a petition for all family-oriented holidays to have outrageously big meals around 2pm allowing guests to slowly and lazily disperse around 4/5pm? Because I will sign that happily.
We did Thanksgiving on our own last year so I forget that that's my favorite thing about the holiday if/when you end up celebrating with family. You get your family together and force awkward conversations early in the afternoon - you keep a TV blaring with football in the background so it's never completely silent - and then you stuff everyone's awkward mouths with varieties of beige foods until everyone is too tired to try to socialize anymore. What a weird and whacky and kinda dumb thing.
Anyway! Now we move from the mouth binging to the money purging part of the holiday! Anyone partaking in the deals and steals this weekend? I haven't even wrapped my head around it, but somehow this weekend always makes me feel like I should be buying as many home appliances as possible - I mean, they're practically giving them away.
Enough about feeding the capitalism monster. Speaking of getting fed, did you watch the finale of bake off/baking show?? I know some of you are behind so I won't spoil anything but I will say I loved who won! They deserved it! To speak in incredibly vague terms I'll say they were adorable, entertaining, inventive, and kept me guessing! Big fan. Though the show's mastery is making me feel like I would cry my eyes out for any one of the bakers to win. That show has truly nailed the fine art of gentle competition layered with sweet peaks and soft valleys and I never want it to stop airing. It's created its own genre of emotional support reality television. But now it's over. *audible sigh with breath that still smells like gravy*
On the flip side we're also watching Survivor this season. Anyone else? I'll say to go from watching Bake Off to Survivor is a hilariously jarring whip lash of sweet British achievements to snarky American calculated conflict. What a cultural journey. If you're watching Survivor this season, any thoughts? I'm getting a little less engaged these seasons because every contestant is a super fan of the show and they all come on with so much fan baggage. I wish they'd cast contestants with zero knowledge of the show. I want to see people play recklessly. Like if you let toddlers into a chess tournament. It'd be fun for like 2 minutes before it got unbearable and they lost but those 2 minutes could be glorious.
Since we're on the topic of what I've been watching let me throw some other TV/doc series recs if you're looking for stuff to avoid the real world with:
The Vow Part II- It's the second season of the HBO series that uncovered the absolute bonkers world of the NXIVM cult. This season they're following the legal drama as core members get tried and sentenced for the ridiculous shit they did. It's a frustrating and interesting watch if you're as obsessed with cult culture as I am.
Unsolved Mysteries: Something In the Sky - y'all know Elliott is into UFOs (don't tell him I told you that lol) and this ep of UM is about how over 300 residents in Michigan reported seeing something...you guess it...in the sky back in 1994 and how it's to this day...you guessed it again...an unsolved mystery
God Forbid- A Doc series on Hulu about the scandal with evangelical maniac Jerry Falwell Jr and his wife and the pool boy...big yikes all around
Selena Gomez My Mind and Me- I found this super interesting though I can't tell exactly how I feel about it good or bad (I know that doesn't really make sense). I loved getting to see behind the brain curtain of Selena and I know there's a lot of discourse about her relationship with her friends in the series but I liked getting to see a bit more of how someone in that echelon handles a mental mess. I didn't have much of an opinion on Selena before so I think it made me appreciate her more but maybe I'm still processing? The heart wants what it wants...that's the only Selena lyric I can think of.
Frasier- just fun for the whole family
Speaking of family, I gotta go gear up for the last day of Florida family shenanigans. Hope y'all have had a good holiday or a good few regular days! If you have any interesting recs to watch please send them my way! Have great weekends! ❤️G

Why is nobody discussing this scary old lady art thingy!! I was completely distracted!! Nancy's part was infuriating. I'm still shocked at all the footage these people took of themselves!! Just crazy!!
2022-11-29 18:05:27 +0000 UTCOkay if you love GBBO then you’re going to love The Big Brunch on HBO hosted by Dan Levy. Only downside is that it makes me so hungry

2022-11-26 15:27:19 +0000 UTCStarted watching limitless yesterday on Disney plus. Very interesting documentary series with Chris Hemsworth about fighting his fears and finding homeopathic type ways to fight disease and live longer. 10/10 recommend. I also just rewatched fleabag (S2 because it’s superior) and it remains my favorite. Happy post turkey, shopping/ family day!
2022-11-25 19:22:35 +0000 UTCThank you for all the reccomendations for the weekend. I'm fighting a sinus cold and losing. I totally agree with you about survivor. I can't connect with any of them, they are all the same person. Booo! Have fun the rest of your Florida vacay. 😎
2022-11-25 19:04:33 +0000 UTCTruly the thing that bothers my wife the most is that damn sculpture. Every time it appears on screen, she exclaims: “What the FUCK is with that sculpture?!”
2022-11-25 18:54:30 +0000 UTCThe Nancy of it all INFURIATES me! And what’s with the weird full sized old person sculpture in her house?! Has anyone explained it??
2022-11-25 18:52:38 +0000 UTCThat is an INCREDIBLE research question/answer!
2022-11-25 18:51:33 +0000 UTCEverything is sticky here - food, family, fingers, fresh air etc etc!

2022-11-25 18:48:45 +0000 UTCMy wife and I are completely hooked on The Vow. Can’t look away. The unraveling of Nancy’s brain so far in S2 is incredible. But also super excited The Sex Lives of College Girls is back!
2022-11-25 17:36:58 +0000 UTCCanadian so no Thanksgiving for me, I had to work, but I DID get a research question (I'm a librarian) that ended up with hilarious results, which is such a rare treat these days because most days people just want help on the computers aka getting mad at me because they forgot their own Facebook passwords. I was looking up an old restaurant this patron's cousin had worked at in the 1940s and I found an article of a soldier who came back from WWII and went to get a steak there, except the restaurant caught on fire while he was eating. He refused to leave, and a reporter took a pic of him eating the steak while the restaurant was literally in flames. Apparently he had been dreaming about this steak for two tours overseas and dammit he was going to finish it! (Thankfully no one was hurt in the fire.) It made my day. And I second White Lotus, also I have been enjoying the new PItch Perfect show in Berlin, it's very silly and fun and it has Flula! There's also this Polish show on Netflix called Sexify which is fun, it's a college comedy about a girl who is trying to invent a sex related app for her coding course. I believe it's getting a second season.

2022-11-25 17:26:14 +0000 UTCHappy leftover day, US peeps! 🥪 I haven’t watched anything interesting lately but this weekend I want to start watching Manifest, a scripted Netflix show about a plane that’s landing at an airport years after it’s taken off and gone missing. The trailer looked pretty cool…sounds a bit like it might also be something for your UFO-loving (he really hasn’t been hiding that haha) husband. The mention of Survivor made me miss Pile it on haha Still one of my comfort listens on Bad Brain Days™️. I’ve been scrolling through Black Friday offers all day (because the world likes to adopt the most capitalist fun of American culture - Valentine‘s Day, Halloween, Black Friday (, social media 🙃)) but I haven’t bought anything yet because technically I don’t neeeed anything…but everything is so freaking cheap. Enjoy the last bit of humid family time! 💕
