What always got me at the end is that she may have escaped, but in her head she'll always be in that place. I doubt many people could survive that and not spend most of their life in an insane asylum.

2024-10-20 18:41:26 +0000 UTCIn fairness, I spit on your Grave, had a truly horrific rape scene. I'm usually quite hard hearted but that one left me a little upset. I can see why they thought that was a bit much, especially for audiences of that time.

As such this isn't based on a true story despite the claims at the start, but it was inspired by the antics of a real life serial killer named Ed Gene. Parts were not too disimilar to stuff he did., plus his background and demeanor were similar to the insane characters in this. I was drawn to this and several other films because this and others were banned in the UK for a long time. They used the term 'video nasty' to describe films of this nature which were banned. Others on the list of UK banned films were The Excorcist, Last House on the Left & I spit on your Grave. The bans were very Government & media driven & spouted the same sort of rhetoric as violent video games get nowadays. There was a lot of insane myths around events in this film by people who claimed to have watched it before the ban was lifted, so naturally when the ban on this & other films got removed in the UK, there was a big rush to watch them & this film quickly gained cult status.
