So a quick update regarding our little guy Timmy. For anyone who hasn't seen our post on Instagram or is not aware, he was diagnosed with IMHA.
Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA) is a serious and life-threatening condition that affects both dogs and cats. In essence, this means that your pet’s immune system, which typically fights off invaders and infections, is now fighting your pet’s own red blood cells.
He has been getting treatment and remained in the ER the past 5 days. To add to our torture, we received a call at midnight on Saturday, letting us know he also has developed Vestibular syndrome which is a disease that affects the balance system (also known as the vestibular system). Common signs of vestibular syndrome in dogs and cats include loss of balance, falling, rolling over, abnormal flickering of the eyes and general wobbliness.
Now on to the good news. He has shown positive signs of recovery. His red blood cells are not dropping! This is HUGE! With all of that, and the fact that most pet ER's are over capacity, we were told it is ok to take little Timmy home.
He currently can't stand, walk, eat, pee etc. on his own, as the vestibular syndrome prevents him from being able to do that. But we are beyond blessed and grateful that he is still with us fighting. The road to recovery might be 6 months, could be forever. However, we are told he is not in pain and we are just happy he is here with us continuing to fight.
We can't thank you all enough for your love, support, prayers and messages. You have no idea how much it helped. We plan to monitor him at all times, but will begin recording content for you all starting today. Hope you all have been great. This has been a huge wake up call. We love and appreciate each and everyone of you.
