Sad ending: Her identity crisis resurfaces, and she realizes her new role as a Muslim wife isn’t what she had hoped for. Her husband gains control of her wealth, arguing that it’s inappropriate for a wife to be wealthier than her husband. Her Christian friends and family attempt to intervene and rescue her, but external forces prevent their efforts.
Happy ending: Her new identity solidifies, and she embraces her role as a devoted and happily married wife. When her Christian friends and family confront her, hoping to bring her back, she stands firm, asks them to refer to her as Arta and is fully committed to her new life.

Exactly, I was thinking the same.... They could be impressed by her new faith and want to learn more about it, until they eventually revert. I could see it happening. As for the ethnic change without the resources of the TV show, it would be difficult in the context of the story.
