My body was a mix of sweat and… other fluids, and I wasn’t about to walk around like this any longer. Not to mention my wings were a total mess. Last night in my Nephilim form had left them tangled and coated in who-knows-what, and they needed a good cleaning.
Whistling a light tune, I headed to the bathroom. I hadn’t slept since the night before and had just pulled an intense “workout” with Puriel, but my energy was still through the roof. My body felt alive, buzzing with power from my transformation and the ridiculous level-ups I’d just gained. It was like I’d been plugged into a battery that refused to drain.
I stepped into the bathroom, the tiles cool under my feet. Turning the faucet, I let the water flow, steam quickly filling the room.
“Alright, wings, time for some TLC,” I muttered with a grin, activating my Nephilim form. The surge of energy rushed through me as my wings unfurled, spreading out behind me in their full glory. Three were angelic, glowing faintly with a soft silver sheen, while the others remained dark and leathery.
The water cascaded over me, washing away the grime of the last few hours. I tilted my head back, letting it run through my hair and down my body, rinsing off everything that clung to me from last night. My wings were another matter entirely. They were sensitive, and cleaning them wasn’t exactly the easiest task.
Using my fingers, I carefully smoothed out the feathers on the angelic side, working through the tangles and dirt. The sensation was strange—almost ticklish but oddly soothing at the same time. “Man, this is going to take forever,” I muttered, but I couldn’t help the small smile on my face.
Switching to the darker wings, I used more force, scrubbing away the mess clinging to the leathery surfaces. These wings were tougher, more resilient, and could take a bit of rough handling. “You’d think a Nephilim would get some sort of auto-clean feature with these upgrades,” I joked to myself, my voice echoing softly in the steamy bathroom.
I let out a satisfied sigh as I rinsed off the last of the grime, folding my wings behind me as the water cascaded over my shoulders. The shower had done wonders—I felt refreshed, energized, and ready to deal with whatever the day threw at me. Well, mostly. Breakfast was still top of the list, and I was starting to feel the gnawing hunger creeping in.
Humming softly to myself, I grabbed a towel and started drying off. Just as I was wrapping the towel around my waist, the sound of the bathroom door handle turning made me freeze mid-motion.
Before I could react, the door creaked open, and a familiar figure stepped in, rubbing her sleepy eyes.
“Brother, is that you?” Celia’s voice was groggy, barely more than a mumble. She looked half-asleep as she stepped further into the bathroom.
“Celia?” I started to say, but before I could explain, she froze in place, her eyes locking onto me—and more specifically, my wings. Her face went from sleepy to wide-eyed in less than a second.
“Morning, Celia,” I said with an awkward smile, trying to keep my tone light.
Her scream shattered the calm morning air. “AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!”
“Celia, wait!” I yelled, quickly teleporting in front of her before she could bolt. With one hand, I gently clamped over her mouth, muffling her scream. “It’s me, Ethan!” I whispered urgently.
Her eyes darted to my face, then back to the massive wings folded behind me, and then to the faint glow still radiating from my body. She blinked, her muffled scream quieting into a confused silence.
“Brother?” she finally said, her voice muffled against my hand.
“Yes!” I hissed. “It’s me. Calm down. You’re going to wake—”
Too late.
Her voice had already done the damage. Within seconds, the entire house seemed to come alive. The sound of claws on the floor and wings flapping echoed through the halls as my pets burst into the bathroom one by one, each in full battle mode.
Red was the first to speak. His crimson eyes glowed as he growled, his massive teeth bared. “It’s a pervert!”
Rave perched on the shower curtain rod, tilting his head as he squawked, “An angel! A naked angel!”
Buni hopped onto the sink, his ears twitching. “A naked pervert angel!” he added, sounding both horrified and curious.
Then came Foxy. She skidded into the room, her fox ears pinned back and her tails bristling. Her red eyes scanned the scene, landing on my hand over Celia’s mouth. Her expression twisted into righteous fury. “Get your hands off her, you perverted angel!” she shouted, already opening her claws.
I groaned, exasperated. “Guys! It’s me! Ethan!” I yelled, holding my hands up in surrender. The towel almost slipped, but I caught it just in time.
The room went silent for a moment, the chaotic energy pausing as they all stared at me. Rave flapped his wings, landing on Red’s back. “Liar. Ethan doesn’t have wings like that.”
“Or glow,” added Buni.
“Or look like a sparkly bird,” Shadow finished, narrowing his eyes.
I pinched the bridge of my nose, feeling a headache coming on. “It’s called a transformation. I’m a Nephilim now,” I explained, my voice strained. “Long story short, I unlocked a new form, and it comes with the whole angel-demon hybrid package. Happy?”
Celia finally spoke, her voice trembling as she looked up at me. “You’re really… my brother?” Her wide eyes searched mine, flickering with a mix of doubt and confusion.
I nodded, trying to look as reassuring as possible. “Yes, Celia. It’s me.” I gave her a small smile, though it probably looked more awkward than comforting, considering the wings and glowing aura weren’t exactly my usual vibe.
She relaxed a little, her shoulders dropping, though her gaze still flicked between my wings and my glowing body. “So… you managed to unlock your power last night?”
“Yeah,” I admitted, scratching the back of my head. “And apparently, it gave me this form.”
Foxy tilted her head, her fox ears twitching curiously. “Including your eyes?” she asked, her tone skeptical as her eyes narrowed on mine.
