4PAW - PURCHASE PAGE

Unlock the full potential of having four paws! With the 4PAW base, you can gallop on all fours and still reach the top shelf!

The 4PAW takes inspiration from many sources in which a semi feral character is able to run on all fours and yet still stand and walk like a human.

This avatar is a combination of many techniques found in my other projects, carefully integrated into a single avatar.

4PAW - Biped? Quadruped? BOTH!

Multiple Custom Locomotion Systems | 8 Poses | 70 Customizable Blendshapes | 6 Different Horns | 150+ Menu Options | Full Body Tracking | Face Tracking | Only 27 Synced Parameters

FINALLY a fully featured feral has made it into VRChat! The 4PAW base has been built completely from the ground up with special emphasis on Full Body to allow for the most comfortable quadruped experience possible! Walk, Trot, Gallop, or Sprint with the custom locomotion systems included in this base!

But how are you going to play pool (billiards) with all four legs on the ground? Let's lift up that spine a bit, mix in some IK, and introduce a full set of biped locomotion! There we go, now you can run the table! (And maybe pickup the Aqua Pack to become a REAL pool shark?)

Aahhhgg Too Many Hoomans!

So how does it work??? Alright! Let's do this!

Despite having fewer limbs, I quickly found the 4PAW to be even MORE complex than my previous release of the AvaTAUR. It's more of a combination of the AvianTAUR and the AvaTAUR, let me explain.

Just like all of my other products, I am using a set of whitelisted scripts from Root Motion's Final IK system. This allows me to generate automatic steps and solve how non humanoid arms and legs should move. On the AvaTAUR, I was able to directly link the front legs with the humanoid legs, but that definitely wasn't going to work here. Instead I needed to do something similar to how the legs on the AvianTAUR work. As such, I made a system using the new VRChat local constraints to follow my real legs, but with a significant offset. I then use IK to link the visible legs to these. Unfortunately the humanoid legs are not the same length as the character's legs, this is why you'll find "Leg Length" and "Leg Offset" sliders in the menus. When not using full body tracking, I ignore your real legs and instead use automatic steps to make you walk around.

But this only solves for the hind legs, this avatar has FOUR legs! So I had to do this system again, but inverted for the front legs. This is accessible in the menus with the "Control All Legs" option. When not using this option, I default to automatic steps. However, it looks kinda strange for a quadruped to pick up BOTH front legs... so I intentionally lock one hand to the floor and let you control the other.

When actually walking, I ignore all of these controls and use a set of locomotion animations that I created specifically for this base. Due to being both a biped and a quadruped, I needed a full set of humanoid locomotions, as well as a set of feral locomotions! (It was a LOT to animate!) While making the animations, I found some variants I really liked, such as the Kangaroo Hop, so I added those as toggles.

"I have long legs, and little arms. I'm just not sure how well this plan was thought through."

So the final hurdle was something new I needed to figure out. This avatar is proportioned completely different from a standard human. Specifically, when waving your arms around, it's very easy to force the arms completely straight. So I made a set of local constraints for the arms as well. These local arms can be scaled or offset as much as I want from the originals and then IK is used to attach the visible arms, but when should I swap between directly controlled and locally controlled? I added ANOTHER set of invisible arms which are always trying to reach your real hands. This set has a contact to detect when it's close enough to your real hands and automatically swap control. (This system can be disabled in the menus with the "Lock Hands" toggle) To help show you what is happening, I have a set of ghost hands that appear whenever you are not directly controlling your own hands.

All in all, this avatar is much more complex than anything else I've made so far, but by using many optimization tricks I've learned, it actually performs better than the AvaTAUR! <3
