Channel Update #46 (May)
Added 2024-05-20 13:52:03 +0000 UTCHello,
The Baldur’s Gate video is deep in production and should be finished in about a week. It’s actually been rather time consuming just because of the amount of game playing involved. I’ve done two playthroughs of BG3, plus one of 1 and 2, which adds up (to about 350 hours). It also doesn’t help that I started back in January, which is long enough ago for me to start forgetting things, like where in my great mass of recorded footage certain things happened. But oh well. The video is mostly BG3 focused in the end. If I was really trying to maximize growth/production I would have split the video and made a BG1 and 2 retrospective separately, which wouldn't actually have been much more work, but I felt I didn’t have a huge amount of original things to say about those games so instead I just talk about the important bits, before going into more detail on BG3.
As for the more political/drama focused videos, I have no real plans to make more, but the ones that were made also weren’t exactly planned so who knows what that means. But I will say that I’m not going to look for more topics like that to cover and it’s not the focus going forward. I think really for me to make anymore videos like that it would have to be something that felt important to me AND was video game related in some way AND was something other people didn’t seem to be covering already, and it’s rare for anything to meet all three of those criteria.
Meaning the next video should be the romance in games video I’ve been wanting to make for a while. Which should be a good one. Like the adult games video but monetizeable…

I think you should avoid any controversial issues. At least on the main channel. The second channel is more well suited to be about any topic under the sun. And while the main channel should be about gaming first and foremost. And just simply avoid gaming topic that are so political charge you know that you're audience is going to be divided. And approaching this topic is going to cause more trouble than good.

Can't wait to hear your take, personally I think romance in RPGs is where my taste and the general public's taste are the most different. I like romance in serie and movie, and even in some linear games, but despite playing A LOT of RPG I don't think I've seen one romance I liked. It usually takes like 10 interactions to go from complete strangers to soulmates making big declarations of eternal love and it's just so unbelievable, even dating sims make you work harder to start someone's route ! And the MC and the romance usually have ZERO chemistry, it's so sterile and robotic. But when I look at online discussion of those games I feel like I'm one of the only person thinking that way because people absolutely love romances in their RPG. I'm also really not a fan of the recent trend of making every characters player sexual no matter their sex or personality. It's stupid that every single characters in your party is bi and waiting for any opportunity to get in your pants, if anything I'd prefer if characters had more agency and some were already in a relationship when you meet them, or start a new one with someone other than the player character during the game, or maybe they're not interested in romance at all at the moment. And romance should be harder to start and easier to fail because right now all it takes is choosing the nice option until you sleep together which isn't how it works in real life. But after seeing how mad people were that Argenta wasn't romanceable in Rogue Tradder I think most studios will just take the easy way and keep making awkward romance you can't fail with anyone you want. And sre by doing that they're avoiding some online controversy but they're also making the world less believable.
