Channel Update #25 (Apr) – future unplans
Added 2022-04-30 16:34:30 +0000 UTCHello, it’s me, the ungrateful person you support who complains at you once a month. How’s it going?
I’ve been promising a detailed update on future plans for a while now (since December?) so I guess that’s what I’ll do here. Unfortunately, it does feel like a bad time to give such an update because making videos has been a struggle for a while now and that makes me hesitant to outline upcoming videos incase plans change or I under deliver. Still I’ll give it a go….
So, possible future videos:
Elden ring – I’ll play it after I finish the next video and I’ll decide whether to make a video based on playing it. I don’t want to make a video unless I really have something that feels worth saying, and I have no idea whether that will be the case without playing it. It’s probably a bit too late to cash in on the big current gaming hot topic thing that this game has become, so if I don’t feel I have a good video in me I’ll just move on.
Gothic – This video will happen and I already feel guilty over how long it’s taken, but for whatever reason it’s been something I’ve been putting off and I don’t want to force myself too hard when making videos has felt difficult recently. It will happen though, and I hope it won’t be too far in the future.
A Future voted video– I’ve been wanting to have another poll decided video for a while but I was, and still am, waiting until after Gothic.
Baldurs Gate 1+2+3 – I was planning to make the Baldurs gate videos for around when BG3 releases out of early access. I did think that was going to be soon but Larian came out earlier this year and said it won’t be in 2022, so I guess the videos can wait for a bit. I’m looking forward to talking about BG2, but no rush.
A Lord of the Rings video – This is I guess the next big video project I’ve been eyeing up. The plan is for it to be like the lovecraft video but more positive in tone. “What are the best lord of the rings games” or something like that, with short reviews over why the games are good and what they do well as adaptations. Should be an enjoyable video to make, and it will hopefully perform well, but this will also be a ton of work, so that's the big downside. Still I might try to line it up the amazon lord of the ring series because that might help the video perform, and if I’m going to make the video anyway I might as well make it at a time when people might be more interested in lotr games.
A Total War Warhammer video – This might not happen. Warhammer 3 is out but the mortal empires campaign isn’t and that’s the most important part of the game so I’m waiting on that to play it. People seem rather unhappy with warhammer 3 but I haven’t really looked into why, so I don’t know. I kind of wanted to make a celebration of the total war series (a series I’ve put thousands of hours into, starting with shogun 1), by making a review of the warhammer games as a trilogy. If warhammer 3 really does have big problems though that kind of positive video will feel a bit off, so no idea if this video will happen. I mostly just wanted an excuse to play warhammer 3 for 100~ hours and then talk about why I think it’s a cool series and unfortunately total war just wouldn’t work for an ‘entire series review’ type video as it would be too difficult to make.
There was a second half of this update (I originally wrote this a few days), but I deleted it for being too negative. Anyway just a few last things to say.
There is a new video soon (3-4 days?). I’m not very happy with but it will at least bring the ‘MMO chapter’ to a close.
Making videos has been hard recently (as the last however many updates might have indicated) and this makes me sad.
If making videos continues to feel so difficult my plan is to ‘try to find the right video’. Some people might think it sounds like I need a break and I get why you’d think that after some of the things I have wrote in the past. But I did have a break, and I feel what I need is more the opposite, that I need to create just that I need the process to go smoothly, as I know it used to in the past. If that doesn’t make much sense then just don’t worry about it. Anyway whatever I do I will still keep you updated monthly.

Awesome work on the production. The update was full of self deprecation... and I can see why based on your current uploads; your latest videos truly are from the heart. Anyway, I hope you feel better soon and find your flow. I've also been going back and viewing your earlier works such as "How mods drive innovation in gaming". All your videos are so well thought through and for that I applaud you. Keep up the stellar work!

2022-05-10 22:54:38 +0000 UTCThanks for the update. Love all of your work. I find tone self-policing odd. Like we all have negative thoughts and feelings, but we choose to filter out anything that doesn't leave everything on a positive note. Like we know if people had to see the good and the bad than we wouldn't be worth the trouble in dealing with. At some level we choose between authenticity and acceptability. We choose the latter. Its strange because I feel like authenticity is what drives a lot of people away from traditional media. I police my own tone. Apologize for negative screeds. Not that I'm sorry for being honest, but that I'm pushing onto others a burden of my own mind on to them. Apologies for the schizo-rant. This isn't criticism, just found it a bit provoking. Again love your work and I wish you all the best.
