Welcome to this week’s edition of the Friday Update, in which I give a little insight into what I’ve been up to for the past seven days.
It’s been another whirlwind week in the life of Tom Nicholas!
First and foremost, the last seven days has seen us putting the final touches to my upcoming video, which is currently titled: I Met The World’s Most Controversial Climate Activists.
This video is a little bit different to anything I’ve made before.
It builds on some of the experiments we made when creating I Investigated Why British Cities Keep Going Bankrupt.
Alongside having some “explainer” sections detailing the history and demands of Just Stop Oil, it also contains a thread in which we follow my day following two members of the group carrying out a pretty controversial action.
Weaving those threads together in an exciting and engaging way has been a lot of fun—though not without its challenges.
It also leads to a whole range of additional technical challenges as we have so many different kinds of footage and audio to incorporate (interviews, to-camera pieces, voice over, live action stuff).
I’m just preparing to upload an Early Access version of the video now, so it won’t be too long to wait to see it for those of you on the relevant tiers! For everyone else, it will come out at some point next week.
To complicate matters further, whilst doing all of this, I’ve mostly been in Paris!
The second filming trip for my Nebula original documentary Boomers began last week. We were in Paris to film a bunch of different scenes amongst the city’s glorious architecture.
I actually happened to be travelling over the week before to see some events at the olympics with my wife. Which was so much fun! And I even managed to buy a plushy hat of the Paris 2024 mascot: Phrygie, the anthropomorphised Phrygian cap (seen in the above pic)!
We even made the environmentally-conscious decision to take the Eurostar over, rather than fly. Which, as someone who loves cutting carbon and someone who loves trains was a real treat!
Filming was, as ever, hectic. Trying to work our way around the remaining infrastructure of the Olympics (and deal with a language barrier) only made it more so.
But, I got the chance to chat with some really interesting people and shoot some really fun scenes. It’s really exciting seeing the film come together and I can’t wait to share it with everyone later this year!
There really are so many exciting projects happening at the moment. I’m very, very tired and looking forward to a time when I’m able to be at home a little more. But I’m so grateful for all your support in making all these films!
Thanks as ever for your generous support and I’ll look forward to updating you more next week!!
