So thankful that I live in Devon but never picked up an accent. (We're not ALL farmers you know! Haha)

Interesting that your accent changed!! My American friend has been living in England for 10 years and still sounds American with a touch English

I grew up in Liverpool and moved to Yorkshire when I was 9, nobody not even my teachers could understand a word I said, but now I've completely lost the accent which anoys me cause I love Liverpool ๐Ÿ˜ข

Not from Liverpool but from across the river but the hands over the mouth pretty much summed it up. Absolutely howling

The Anglophenia West Country accent was a little off. I watch a lot of TV/Documentaries that are based there , while she has certain parts right, there's a certain cadence in her sentences that throws it off. I have three Aunts. The youngest and my mother (second youngest) both speak with a similar accent, Halifax - Yorkshire. The eldest two speak with a much posher accent, like a combination of RP and Yorkshire (It's put on of course) but this left an interesting accent for my eldest cousin. His mum has the "posh" voice but his father is booming Yorkshire (think Brian Blessed) through and through, my cousin ended up with a weird amalgamation of the two. I personally wish my Yorkshire accent was stronger. But I have a very muted one. It doesn't help that I am one of those people that pick up accents very easily. A few years back I had a binge watch of the entire series of Torchwood, I legitimately had a Welsh twang for a week. :| Someone did accuse me of having a Mancunian accent once. ONCE.

I am fascinated about the "why" of regional accents, and I think this applies everywhere. It's families and schools- where your manner of speaking is born. If you're in a community where people don't move a lot your speaking and listening will be shaped by the local environment. So these are traditions which apparently are inherited and very strong. Regardless of British regions though, I think they all use better grammar than American English speakers, even if their regional color is hard to understand. This also applies to British educated foreigners who must have had dedicated teachers! This is a wonderful topic and sadly will probably fade and be lost eventually as we are all becoming more electronically tied together.

I noticed there wasnโ€™t a Lincolnshire accent.

Having moved around a bit myself, my original accent has changed slightly. I have been mistaken for coming from different places around the country. i always found language and accents fascinating, like how the American use of English is closer to how it was written and spoken here 200 years ago! glad you saved this one for us, Thanks Alanna.

It is, the village of Leeds is just up the road from it, very oldie worldie with a great pub.

Arthur Gatward

Have you seen this, Alanna? I think a live stream of Murder Friends solving one would be great! https://www.huntakiller.com/

Stephanie McAlea

Interesting that your accent has changed! I know mine has slightly, but barely I think.

Adventures and Naps

Ahh so cool!!

Adventures and Naps

That's so interesting that his accent was changed just by being around someone!

Adventures and Naps

Adventures and Naps

Cheers pal

Adventures and Naps

I love that everyone has a "work voice" lol I don't know if I could understand a faster Glasgow accent!

Hi Alanna, I live just outside Cardiff and the Welsh accents were quite good. I must say that a genuine Cardiff accent is very different and I've never heard it done properly. My brother spent 10 years with a cardiff girl when he was younger and sounds completely different to everyone else in the family because of it, and we are only 5 miles away from Cardiff. Great video as usual, living room backdrop looks nice and the lighting on this video looks very nice and natural.

the guys accents were great. His Welsh accent was a southern one as my accent is from Gwynedd which is more Celtic, breathy, and clipped. Anglophenia's accent and her Welsh was pretty good.

Really interesting subject, I love those kind of videos. Iโ€™ve watched that Liverpool one a bunch of times over the years and always makes me laugh. I lived there for six years and still had trouble understanding what they said sometimes. Same goes for Glaswegians. No one ever seems to do an East Midlands accent, where I originally come from, in these videos. Most assume it is the same as Birmingham, being so close, but is actually very different. I have moved around so much that no one can tell where I come from these days.

Hi, Alanna, that was great fun, some seemed very accurate not sure about all of them though but they were all very enjoyable. You are right it is fascinating how accents change so much over such short distances. Whatever you talk about you make entertaining. Looking forward to your next video soon.

Stephen Parker

This guy was really good at hes accents. Hes scouse accent was more of a outskirts to middle-ish (chavvy) where its more put on but yea sounded exactly like a scouser. I hate that accent too. It has to be The worse accent i have ever heard. And poor me works with these people lol. I gotta say i loved your reaction when you heard that one lol. Anyway great video as usual. I hope you have a wonderful weekend

Stewie Whittaker

Accent impressions are good but not perfect, you can generally tell they are impressions. Stephen Fry did a great bit on Scottish accents https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AQafwx3h7A

Simon

hang on hang on hang on... is he the guy with the green fist at the end of Twin Peaks 3?

David O

lol brilliant. The two Glasgow accents were spot on but they are a higher class accent (or my work voice) Most people I know speak alot harsher and alot faster but the video was great :)
