Dover Castle views

I didn't realise how large and sprawling Dover Castle really is - there's so much!

As much as I love Canada, England certainly knows how to do proper castles and coastal views.

totally agree re Bamburgh Castle, in fact, if you come to the North East there are a lot of castles (mainly because in olden times we weren't o keen on our Scottish neighbours coming down here to England. A tour of the NE would give you Alnwick (a la Harry Potter), Raby Castle, New Castle (home of the best people in the land), Barnard Castle, Richmond Castle and Castle Howard (not technically a castle) - you'd also get to visit Hadrians Wall and the Roman forts - would make for a brilliant spring/summer travel trip and I'm sure you'd have no end of followers happy to show you the local scene

I live not far from Dover. I was on holiday in Mexico last year and we met an American family who have not traveled to Europe and they asked if we lived near a castle and I said Dover was closest. Then I had to stop and say "Well, Walmer Castle is closer actually. And Deal Castle. And I suppose you could count Richborough Fort..." There faces were great as they said "So wait, you live within minutes of four castles?" The joy of the Kent coastline.

If you are looking for castles and grand houses, have a look at Osborn House on the Isle of Wight. I think I've been about four times 🙂

I can back you up about Bamburgh Castle and the beaches. They have some spectacular ones up there. Alternatively the castles of Wales are worth a visit too.

If you are looking for a Castle to visit. I would recommend Bamburgh Castle in the North East near Newcastle. And it’s got a lovely beach (or was last time I was there)
