I am pretty excited for this one—The Birdcage is a definite classic and certainly one of the most iconic queer comedies of all time. It was released in 1996, this film was a big moment for our community. It brought unapologetically queer characters to the mainstream in a way that was heartfelt, hilarious, and deeply human—at the time, LGBTQ+ visibility in Hollywood was still limited and often riddled with stereotypes.
Nathan Lane and Robin Williams give truly unforgettable performances, and the chemistry, wit, and emotional truth in their relationship still hold up beautifully. It's not just a comedy—it’s also about love, acceptance, and the messiness of family. It really is camp, heart, and political satire all rolled into one fabulous, feathered package.
I stoked to dive into this one with you all. 💃🏽
