Research and Development 0.2

The second version of Research and Development is now available. This update adds some new content, and also aims to make implementing future content more smooth.

Feel free to share any thoughts, suggestions or bug reports.

19/06/21 patch:

-Made the rhythm targets slightly more visible

-Removed a last minute debug key I accidentally left in. Pressing r in the browser version would delete your save data and restart the game. Pressing r in the desktop version just crashed the game due to it referring to a browser-specific function.

This is something I noticed on my own during (brief) testing. Even with all upgrades maxed out, situations where you can get 4 or 5 hits are rare. I wasn't confident enough to make any significant changes to the spawnrate, as at that point I was already gearing up for release. The next update will add more mechanics to the cake game, and I aim to improve the existing aspects of it as well.

Sorry to hear that. The browser version will always have its quirks and run a tiny bit worse, but I hadn't observed any significant performance issues on my own. Do you mind telling me what browser you were using, and whether you're using a low-end or high-end machine? I assume the performance differences between the two versions would only get so drastic on low-end computers.

Really good stuff, def worth the wait and the new minigame is a lot of fun. Only one thing I'd say, which is sort of related to the cake spawn rate like faffy mentioned. I could just be bad but as of now the multiple hits really feel pointless past 3. I was barely in a situation where I could even hit 3, most of the time it's just 2 even at max cake spawn. It doesn't really affect the actual gameplay or progression, but it just feels kind of like, why does this even go past 3? Maybe adjusting the spawn would help, or just keeping it at a lower cap. Really though, it's just nitpicking. Overall this is awesome and I didn't run into any bugs or stability issues.

There is a lot of great content. I loved it. But the browser version drops a lot of frames and the game doesn't seem to account for it so the milking becomes borderline unplayable. Once I switched to windows and downloaded the game, it improved significantly. Also, the milking minigame at 2 strokes per beat makes a great JOI

Hello213

so far so good!, i feel like your game would benefit from a quit button to opt out from mini games. i've found myself clicking on the wrong activities and was kind of forced to finish the activity so i could get to what i meant to click initially

I've made the lines a bit more visible. A gallery will likely be in a future update.

I didn't expect to have as much to play as I did. Absolutely loved it and can't wait for more, also I second that gallery suggestion, some rhythms were missing by being distracted by chubb

Real Doge Hours

Oh sorry one more thing - I think my milk amount is deleted if I don't spend them all and then retry? I'm not sure if that's intended

FaffyCastle

It's looking really good! 2 comments I'd make, maybe they might make the game a bit too easy but: 1) maybe add some gradations to the rhythm game, like full credit, half fail, complete miss - I'm having trouble hitting the rhythm when it's slow, but when it's fast it feels more lenient. 2) when I upgraded cake frequency it didn't feel like the cakes were spawning much faster until I did the milking game one more time. Maybe a bug? But it had me thinking - what if there was a slight fullness bonus to nailing combos? Other than that, it looks amazing, I love where this is going, and goddamnit I'm gonna nail that milking minigame.

Played it through, and it's pretty good! Facial expressions are on point. Particular fan of the new milking minigame. One suggestion I have might be to add a gallery mode, not unlike what was in the text-based game? I found myself getting distracted a few times by, uh, what was going on and so I messed up the rhythm game. (Though maybe that's intentional.) Also, the lines on the milking game to indicate when to press are a little hard to see against the background.
