2025-05-23 12:54:32 +0000 UTCBooby trapped tombs are nearly completely a hollywood fiction. The closest thing to a REAL LIFE example is the Bahariya Oasis tomb, where the floor was covered in 8 inches of Hematite dust, which can cause very unpleasant and fatal internal injuries if it is inhaled by a human. The scarab, Scarabaeus sacer, IS a real insect but it does not behave anything like the one portrayed in the film. They do NOT feed on living flesh nor do they attack anything in swarms. That was Hollywood bullshit, through and through. The Medjai were a real organization in ancient Egypt. It is thought that they disappeared around 1100 BCE. The Medjai's tattoos are given to them when they turn sixteen, to officially denote their role as defenders against evil. The ceremony is also a trial, since if the Medjai show any kind of pain or discomfort, it's considered that they brought shame upon their family. Men within the group will get tattoos over their entire body, shown with Ardeth's face tattoos that spell out the words "underworld" and "truth" in Egyptian hieroglyphics Ardeth Bay, the leader of the Medjai, (played by Oded Fehr) is shown speaking Arabic. I’m not sure whether this is accurate, I believe a tribe as isolated and focused on maintaining it’s long held traditions would be speaking Coptic, the closest language to ancient egyptian that exists. Historicity: The filmmakers played it fast and loose with real history on this one: Seti the first died in 1279, so Imhotep murdering him in 1290? Pretty much impossible. The idea that an egyptian curse would directly invoke the plagues described in the book of Exodus in the Christian bible is rather problematic, since scholarship cannot agree on when the exodus (if it ever truly happened) took place, and what pharaoh would have been the antagonist is highly debated. The mostly commonly accepted idea is that Ramsees the second IS the pharaoh of the exodus. The problem with this, in terms of this film, is that Seti was Ramsees II’s FATHER and thus the curse would have been concocted BEFORE said plagues ever transpired. One thing that jumps out at me about the scenario of resurrecting Anck-su-namun (Her Life Is of Amun) is that when Imhotep tries the first time to resurrect her, there is NO woman beside the body to act as the sacrifice. Near the end of the film, Evelyn is chosen to BE that sacrifice, so why the disparity?? If you are wondering, Anck-su-namun was a princess, daughter of Pharaoh Ankhenaten and Queen Nefertiti, and would go on to marry Tutankhamun, which would also put HER presence outside the timeline given in the film, having been born in 1348 and died in 1322, some 32 years before the events portrayed in the film that got Imhotep sealed away as a juicy mummy.

2025-05-22 02:26:10 +0000 UTCThe “curse” is often associated with the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb. When George Herbert, 5th Earl of Carnarvon, who financially backed the excavation, died shortly after the discovery. In reality he died of an infected mosquito bite that became pneumonia. About 8 years after, Howard Carter died. However back in ancient Egypt, they didn’t really put curses on their tombs because they believed that no one would dare enter a tomb, however they were wrong and most if not every tombs was robbed in antiquity. The prime culprits were the priests and officials.

2025-05-21 20:16:23 +0000 UTCTime to watch V swoon over Brandon for 2hrs, lol. Let's do this 😁 The Rock is in the second movie as the Scorpion King, which then had a handful of spin-off movies, 4, I think. The Mummy 2017 stars Tom Cruise and doesn't have a rep of doing very well. The idea was to capitalize on the MCU style of story telling by creating a series of films that all tied together using all the classic movie monsters; the mummy, Dracula, the wolfman, Frankenstein, the creature from the black lagoon, etc. But the mummy (2017) did so badly that it stop the project right away. They also tried to do the MCU thing with giant monsters (Kaiju) which has some success with the Godzilla and King Kong movies. The time period of this movie was ambiguous on purpose to help you focus on the movie rather than the events of the history. Curses on mummy tombs go waaaaay back, like thousands of years, lol, not from a movie, V. They Egyptians were well aware of grave-robbers, so to desecrate a tomb of someone "blessed" by the gods was to bring down a curse of the gods, not only on you but your family/family-line; to help deter grave-robbing. Didn't work, really, but there are some stories about strange deaths occurring after digs on numerous sites throughout history. A stick of dynamite is comprised of an explosive component and a wrapping to contain it. You have to prep a stick of TNT with a wick before use but they don't come pre-wicked, lol, for obvious safety reasons. You just insert a wick and its ready to go when you light it. But if you remove a burning wick before it gets to the explosive component, then a-okay, lol. The wick is usually coated in black powder or flammable oils to burn fast or slow, depending on how much time you wanted to create (for running away, lol, or time to change your mind). The also controlled the timing with the length of a wick too. But if you simply severe the wick or remove it, then no go boom, lol.
