Thoughts on doing a more emotional film??

So after reading through all your suggestions I was thinking… what if we try doing an *emotional* movie - I feel like i haven’t had a movie really make me emotional in quite some time - and I tend to avoid the topic so how would you guys feel if we tried more of a tear-jerker film? We’ve been doing a ton of actions, comedies and sci-fis - would you guys be interested in crying along with me to a heavy movie? LOL

Let me know your thoughts and if you’d be interested in going on an emotional rollercoaster with me 🥹😆

Comments

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, David Fincher Directing) was an underrated drama that I hadn't really seen reactionaries do on their channels. It's a wonderful film that remains the only one I've ever felt comfy calling 'flawless'.

Skywhale

The stronger the emotion (sad, scared, happy, etc.), the better for me, so as long as you're up for it, here I'll be. A classic, if you haven't seen it, is "Life is Beautiful" (I guess that's the english name, I've only watched in spanish and italian)

Luis Iván Flores Vázquez

I know it was said, but if you have not seen Schindler's List....I don't know if there is a more emotional movie. The movie is raw and probably Spielberg's best work. It's something everyone should watch.

Justin

Well, this is my list, not an everybody list, lol. Not a fan of Mystic Pizza. I did struggle with having Pratical Magic as well since it has quite a few scenes centered around the kitchen/dinning area but felt it didn't have a strong food sub-plot. I don't have the apple streaming so never knew that existed. And kitchen confidential isn't technically a movie but we're all free to make recommendations. 😊

Raptor

No Mystic Pizza?

mikethemotormouth

Guardians 3 was kinda emotional. I guess not what you’re looking for tho

Garret Smith

The Apple show with Brie Larson would be a great addition to your list Lessons In Chemistry Also Simply Irresistible is a great movie really under rated The Ramen Girl was also really good Have you ever watched a limited series called Kitchen Confidential it only ran for half a season but it was amazing, and that's the last add on.

Baron

I'd cry with ya!

Jonah Bertorelli

So I had an idea of a sub-category that could be perfect for V's emotional films desire. Food Movies! Lol. Chocolat (2000) The Taste of Things (2023) Julie & Julia (2009) Soul Food (1997) Like Water for Chocolate (1992) When Harry Met Sally (1989) Fried Green Tomatoes (1991) Simply Irresistible (1999) The Ramen Girl (2008) Untamed Heart (1993) Tampopo (1985) Big Night (1996)

TJ Bigelow

The Iron Giant?

Chase

Ok I looked thru all the suggestions already shared and wanted to share some of my own suggestions. The Imitation Game LesMiserables two versions musical one is more sad I think Okja "Waitress" plus optional documentary about writer/director/actor who was murdered, even has a law and order episode about her murder "Unleashed" this action movie will surprise you The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Also you could play a story game like What Remains of Edith Finch it is only a 2 hour game, or you could also do one of the Life Is Strange games, the first one is good second one is ok and same with the third and they made a prequel for the first one that is also pretty good, especially after playing the first one. Tell Tale has some great games that will all hit you in the feels with out having a huge time commitment. Oh and last suggestion is Death Stranding Video game, it is a lot of commitment in terms of time but worth it.

Baron

The number 1 most beloved movie with basically no presence on the reactosphere is one that fits your mood right now: Magnolia (1999) I've been baffled by it. It's a famous film that was quite successful, and the early film internet adored it on the level of other experimental breakouts of the time like Memento and The Matrix. I'd recommend it to anyone, because it's sort of about everyone.

Raieldon

How about A Beautiful Mind, with Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany?

Thaddeus Winterson

Shes already reacted to it.

My Girl

Daniel Cowan

ONE DAY show on Netflix, its the most relatable for you i'm sure Vicky. Its only 1 season finished story & the episodes are VERY SHORT like 20-25 minutes each. You could do 5 episodes at a time, and you'd be finished within 3 parts/watches. EVERYBODY who seen this show was left in an Awe, to say the least ! Maybe you could do the ONE DAY show **additionally** to a movie thats been here suggested and which you will choose to watch.

Matt Chris

Schindler's List Vee, it's time for you to watch Schindler's List. It must be one of the most emotional films of all time. In addition, it is outside the usual genres, as it is a historical drama and Oscar winner for best film. Know that the characters you see in the film are real people. It is a film based on actual events (almost), making it more impactful.

Daniel Almeida

If u want a emotional anime film I recommend "I want to eat your pancreas"

Kristopher

"Dancer in the Dark". It's an Oscar-nominated musical, so it's full of all the jolly emotions.

MR

^ Pick this if you want a sci-fi / romantic drama / dark comedy film. It's wonderful.

Rob Frawley 2nd

Remember the Titans (2000) or Steel Magnolias (1989).

David Crabtree

Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind

Dylan

What's Eating Gilberg Grape from 1993. With young Johnny Depp and Leonardo Di Caprio.

Arne Bjørnebekk

Forrest Gump is a MUST SEE, if you haven't yet!!!

Arne Bjørnebekk

Requiem for a Dream. It's a real gut punch.

RogMar

About Time, best rom-com that exists and it never fails to make me shed a tear

Noah Hughes

Human Centipede. Never fails to bring a tear to my eye.

Richard Maurer

I'm at a loss. I prefer films that caused me to shed a tear unexpectedly rather than those that are knowingly designed to do just that and if I say, Watch this it'll make you cry then I'm giving away the story if that makes any sense. I didn't expect to get teary-eyed watching The Green Mile or Train to Busan, but if someone says oh, you've got to see Weepy Movie because you'll bust out crying then I consider that kind of spoiling the experience and creating unneeded expectations. Sorry I'm being a wet blanket about it. 😭😅🙃🙄😊

Robert Jewell

The Perfect Storm

SnakeandNape

She's seen it

Matt

Remember the Titans would be a good one for an emotional sports movie.

BLGFish

would be my choice too

Stendalizer

The time travelers wife and The lovely bones

Mark Ventura

I keep forgetting you have not reacted to A League of Their Own with Geena Davis and Tom Hanks. Have you seen this? (it's also another one that your golden friend did kinda recently)

MertzRocks

The Wrestler is amazing and also a Darren Aronofsky film who made The Whale and Black Swan that V loved, good pick

Matt

I second this

D

Sure, i sometimes watch one of these movies when i need a good cry: A Monster Calls (2016) - dark fantasy drama The Iron Giant (1999) - American animated science fiction Mississippi Burning (1988) - American crime thriller

Leeland

Did you see "Scent of a woman"? Al Pacinos oscar role. Very good movie

Dioskur

Personally have no desire to see you crying your eyes out and being an emotional wreck there's enough sadness in the world as it is but if that's what you want to do go for it 👍

Ian

Good call. I should have specified by suggesting the 1985 version.

Jared Spotted Eagle

If you’re looking for emotional definitely the movie Million Dollar Baby 2004 🔥

HoneyBadger

My favorite movie of all time is Magnolia. Though it's 3 hours long, it's insanely well written, directed, and acted. The other movie that comes to mind that's very emotional for me is The Wrestler. It's very raw. Both are very raw.

Colby Stewart

I'll second Color Purple as long as it's not the remake

mikethemotormouth

Awakenings(1990), another great emotional story with Robin

mikethemotormouth

Yep you should watch The Color Purple (1985)

Mike Turp

Yes👍🏾

Mike Turp

Absolutely

DarkHorse

A Silent Voice. I have yet to see anyone I share this movie with not cry. The catharsis that hits at the end hits different. One of my favorite movies, including non-anime films.

John M

I stand by my Departures 2008 suggestion from the previous post lol. Life, death, family, love... beautiful movie.

MrAlexSan

YES

Matt Chris

If you haven't seen it yet I'd recommend the Green Mile. It is really really heavy on your heart though. It's one of my favorite movies of all time but I think I only ever watched it once. I don't know if I've ever cried uglier and harder at another movie like this one.

vSoulreaver

Emotions? What are those? You mean movies that blow dust in your eyes? lol. Here you go, some from the previous list, too: Memphis Belle (1990) Thunderheart (1992) The Secret of NIMH (1982) Waking Ned Devine (1998) Medicine Man (1992) Lorenzo's Oil (1992) The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013) Casper (1995) Pleasentville (1998) A League of Their Own (1992) The Abyss (1989) Tears of the Sun (2003) Million Dollar Baby (2004) A Star is Born (2018) What Dreams May Come (1998) Toys (1992) Patch Adams (1998) Good Will Hunting (1997) Dead Poets Society (1989) Fried Green Tomatoes (1991) Steel Magnolias (1989) Beaches (1988) 21 Grams (2003) What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) Little Man Tate (1991) Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993) Dances with Wolves (1990) The Untouchables (1987) The Bodyguard (1992)

TJ Bigelow

"Good Will Hunting" This movie is a Matt Damon and Robin Williams Masterpiece of emotion true to dealing with emotion in real life.

LightsCameraJake

Control 2007 (Joy Division Biopic)

Jonathan Blake Fore

MertzRocks

Never saw Holes but I'd check it out. Fully second STAND BY ME !

MertzRocks

Seven Pounds

Two Tom Hank's movies are emotional.. Sleepless in Seattle & You've Got Mail! Classic 90s movies!

Matt S

House of Sand and Fog is pretty emotional.

Com1xguy

Schindlers List. Bite the bullet and react to it. People been dying to see you watch it evrry time it's in a poll. I think it got 2nd in a couple.

_tragicmike

Jerry McGuire

Tom W.

I think The Color Purple or Fried Green Tomatoes would be fitting.

Jared Spotted Eagle

Of course! Low key cathartic watching a movie and crying along with you

Dale Diaz

It's a great comedy that tugs on the heartstrings. The characters and the writing is memorable. It also features one of my favorite character actors, WWII Army veteran Jack Warden.

ButtercupsTrueLove

Turning Red had me crying like an absolute baby.

Willow McPhie

MANCHESTER BY THE SEA 2016 A GHOST STORY 2017 ROMA 2018 AFTERSUN 2022 PAST LIVE 2023

Matt

I know I just mentioned this in your previous post, V, but I'd like to bring up Lonesome Dove again. It has a LOT of emotional gut punch moments throughout the entire 4-part series, and you WILL need tissues. You might even be a blubbering mess by the end of it lol. It hits THAT hard, believe me. And I'd also like to add another vote for An American Tail. Great movie with a wonderful theme song.

Slate

I see you still haven't done "Schindler's List" yet (at least it doesn't appear on my search), so this might be the opportunity to do that one.

Lester Yung

Big Fish. It has everything you love in a movie

Chuck Eberhart

I'd like that my recommendation would be Patch Adams

Wesley Farrell

+1 for Empire of the Sun, that is such a classic

mike

I think it would be great. I echo the recommendation above for Bicentennial Man, truly great movie. Another one, What Dreams May Come.

Chief

The Whale

Mathias

You are about the only person I get excited to cry with, so sign me up :)

Derder

Some i can think of is The Iron giant My girl Hachiko Sophie's Choice The Banshees of Inisherin The boy in the stiped pyjamas Dancer in the Dark Grave of the Fireflies Life Is Beautiful (1997) Empire of the Sun The Green mile Dead Poets Society Stand by me And so on

Jonathan Wiking

Whenever I need to feel sad, nostalgic, laugh, fear and joy at the same time alongside feeling the good times of my childhood, I watch Stand By Me and Holes which are among my favorites from book to movie. They never get old!

Calvin Kopp

Blood Diamond

Amyntas

Phenomenal suggestion, and deep story, too.

Chief

For emotional movies, I'll again recommend: The Whale Rider (88% RT, academy award nominated) Beasts of the Southern Wild (76% RT, academy award nominated) The Florida Project (96% RT, an academy award win)

Chris Brown

- An American Tail (animated) - Life is Beautiful - Old Yeller - The Virgin Suicides - 50/50

AkiraScroll

I'm going to again recommend Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. That movie had no right to make me cry like that. I don't cry over movies/TV and certainly not over adaptations of short YouTube videos. And yet I cried.

G. T. Blackwell

We Were Soldiers

SnakeandNape

DC League of Superpets. Even though you don’t watch DC movies it’ll still tug at your heart strings

Richard Lowe (The Writing King)

13 hours: The secret soldiers of Benghazi (2016) can get a bit emotional

Gilbert Gonzalez
