🎬 Hit me with some Movie Recommendations! 🎬

Hi everyone! Hope everyone is having a nice relaxing Sunday ☺️

I noticed since we’ve stayed within the same few genres.. I’d love to hear recommendations for films you’d like me to see!! Preferably ones that either aren’t on the polls/or a different genre than we’re used to doing. 😇

I don’t want us to ONLY stick to a select few genres - I wanna explore other options!! :)

So hit me with your favorite film recommendations, ones you think I’d either really love or you’d really love for me to see LOL and I’ll pick a random film you recommend - and do it!!

Thank you all for everything. I appreciate you so much and can’t wait to see what you guys suggest. 🥰🌸✨

FatLittleButterfly

southpaw and warrior are my favourite movies really good storys and such good actors.

Jasper

Honestly I think I agree, as much as I love some of his other work I think Rango takes the cake. Everything about is just perfectly imperfect if that makes sense. The animation is very unique, the story being deeper than it seems. My favorite animated film of all time hands down

Senza Nome

For Vkunime, there are still a lot of widely worshipped, big-budget, highly experimental masterworks from the golden age of anime theatrical film that you haven't seen, like Wings Of Honneamise (1987) Memories (1995) and Jin-Roh (1999). There's nothing else like them.

Raieldon

One that baffles me is that for all the love of Korean film on Youtube, few people have watched the most famous and beloved of them all: Oldboy (also sitting pretty in IMDB's top 100). Especially for those who are fans of Tarantino.

Raieldon

There's one film that's currently in the 100 highest rated films of all time on the IMDB 250 that has basically zero presence on the reactosphere, and it's the movie that landed hardest on me out of the thousands I saw as a teenage film buff: Once Upon A Time In America (1984) It's also generally seen as the end-all of "10 out of 10 films unknown by the mainstream" despite being a megabudget Hollywood gangster epic made at the height of Robert DeNiro's popularity. Essentially, the studio messed up the release and no one knows it unless they go looking up Greatest Of All Time lists.

Raieldon

Apocalypse Now (Coppola) Rear Window, Psycho, The Birds (Hitchcock) The Shining, Dr. Strangelove (Kubrick) Fargo, Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, True Grit (Coen Brothers) The Straight Story, Mulholland Dr. (David Lynch) Modern Times, City Lights (Charlie Chaplin) Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow (Tim Burton) To Kill a Mockingbird, 12 Angry Men, On the Waterfront Short Circuit, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Uncle Buck, Encino Man Clueless, A Simple Plan, Matinee, The Insider, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Men In Tights Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Inglorious Basterds, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (Quentin Tarantino) Goodfellas, Casino, Cape Fear, The Departed, Hugo (Scorsese) My Girl, Forrest Gump

Daniel Cowan

thought of two more : Demolition Man (1993) Dredd (2012)

vlocke67

Ooh so many possible films... I saw someone earlier suggest Secret Life of Walter Mitty which would be good, and someone else say 12 Monkeys. Identity is a good film... same vibes as 6th sense. Someone also said you haven't done many westerns so 3:10 to Yuma is a very good film with Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, and maybe the 1994 film Maverick, which is a bit more light-hearted for a western. If you wanted to go for some older films maybe Gaslight (1944), 12 Angry Men (1957) or the Ladykillers (1955). Also, a really good climate related film I think you'd like is The Day After Tomorrow with a young Jake Gyllenhaal in it. The Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, World's End) is also brilliant; I highly recommend. I just love Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright together. Talking of Edgar Wright, Scott Pilgrim VS the World and Baby Driver would also be great I don't envy you trying to pick. There's so many good suggestions from everyone : )

E

High School. 2010 stoner comedy.

Jonah Bertorelli

Clint Eastwood's directorial debut - "Play Misty For Me" (1971).

Your Name (anime) The 13th Warrior

Bill Woods

I could recommend some really different films, but these polls are popularity contests, which they wouldn't be able to win, so why bother.

Richard Maurer

Sin City

Richard Maurer

A scanner darkly, Raising Arizona, Dark city, 12 Monkeys, Demolition man, Dreamcatcher, Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy

Mark Ventura

Ok, here’s just a random few that I don’t think you’ve seen: - What If (aka The F Word - Daniel Radcliffe, Adam Driver et al.) - The Invention of Lying (Ricky Gervais) - Up In The Air (George Clooney and Anna Kendrick) - Yesterday (Himesh Patel, Lily James and a cringy but awesome Ed Sheeran cameo) - The Finest Hours (Chris Pine and Casey Affleck) - Bridge of Spies (Tom Hanks) - Waitress (Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion)

game_set_matt

I'm talking about the Animation that came out as of recent.

Kieren MacRae

I'd also recommend Uncut Gems and The Truman Show. Both are great films that feature traditionally comedic actors taking on more serious lead roles (Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey respectively). While both actors have done a few other serious roles, I think that these are their career-best performances.

D

I requested this in the comments of your No Country for Old Men reaction but I'll post it here again: Since you seemed to enjoy NCFOM you may like "There Will Be Blood". It's a period drama about an oilman during the Californian oil boom at the turn of the 20th century and it has a similar vibe to NCFOM. Both films were released in the same year and were both favorites during awards season. I personally rank TWBB slightly higher than NCFOM (and Letterboxd tends to agree) but I'm curious as to what you might think.

D

If you watch Blues Brothers: Be sure to watch the original version. They recut it somewhen and ruined the whole thing

Dioskur

The Guardian (2006) is a great one

Azure_Sentry

From Dusk til Dawn,Spaceballs,Robin Hood:Men in Tights,Prey,TMNT(origianl),A League of their Own,Jumanji(newer ones)

rick trevino

Add "Criminal" to the con-movie list. It is an American remake of the Argentina film "Nine Queens" and stars John C Reilly and a pre-Star Wars Diego Luna.

Patrick Dillon

The other Pryor/Wilder movies would be a better intro I think: "Stir Crazy" or "Silver Streak".

Patrick Dillon

My Favorite Sports movies: Breaking Away - Bicycle racing We Are Marshall - College Football Cinderella Man - Boxing Seabiscuit - Horse racing All are about sports, but so much more too.

Patrick Dillon

GREAT choice!

WarriorPoet1980

"The Truman Show" should be on EVERY reactor's channel playlist! Very meta.

Patrick Dillon

Dumb and Dumber (if you haven’t seen it, I didn’t see it on here), Jackass(after Borat, it’s a good next step, just have a bucket ready), Ghostbusters, The Fast and the Furious, and The Godfather. I know this is for movie recommendations, as you have a lot of series going right now, but when you finish better call Saul or the boys, I recommend LOST and/or Dexter. They’re both really good overall, although they certainly have polarizing endings.

Timothy Poeschl

Grave of The Fireflies

Patrick Dillon

BIG +1 for Amadeus, Office Space, The Big Lebowski & Rear Window. All must-see amazing movies!

Patrick Dillon

For Movie Reactions, I recommend: Gossford Park - and ensemble mystery period movie, set in a grand English manor in the early 20th century. Written by the guy who wrote the Downton Abbey show. Insomnia - Murder Mystery set in Alaska, starring Al Pacino and Robin Williams (in a terrific non-comedic role). The Informant - a "based on real story" that is almost too weird to believe. Starring Matt Damon, and a *bunch* of stand up comedians in (mostly) small non-comedic roles. Very fun.

Patrick Dillon

For TV series recommendations, I suggest: Deadwood Justified The Wire Downton Abbey

Patrick Dillon

"Open Range" is a great modern Western. Starring and Directed by Kevin Costner, also featuring Annette Bening and Robert Duvall. "Lone Star" is a good indy drama, set in the modern American West. A great little drama starring Chris Cooper and Elizabeth Peña and a very young Mathew McConaughey.

Patrick Dillon

Oh god THERE'S a recommendation, Come and See(1985)

mikethemotormouth

We're talking about the live action, right?

mikethemotormouth

Come see more when we're done! (if we ever are....) :D

MertzRocks

How about a western, gorgeous. John Wayne in McLintok!. A 1963 move re-teaming him with the oh-so-talented Maureen O'Hara. Think of it as a family, western, RomCom.

Ragnar Miersch

I second the 3 I know: Amadeus, Close Encounters, Stripes. The ones IDK I would still watch you react to Vee

MertzRocks

Please watch You've Got Mail with Tom Hanks. It's Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.

Matt S

Oh dang I think I may have forgotten about that LOL

Com1xguy

Scary? Hmmm... Vampires... Hmmm.... Plan 9 from Outer Space. What's REALLY scary is that it was ever allowed to be released! (it's so bad it's good - sort of...) :D

MertzRocks

The Godfather 1 and 2 are amazing. The 3rd one is eh. I recommend the Godfather novels by Mario Puzo. Great reading

SnakeandNape

The Thing (2011) on this list is the prequel to the John Carpenter one, fyi.

Raptor

I don't know every one of these but yes, good list. 1st 4 and Waterboy I know best, recommend all. AMazing I'm 60 and still haven't watched The Godfather yet (YOU WOT!?!?). Don't worry, I will.

MertzRocks

I know THEM and some of the old Godzilla and other old monster movies. Gotta say THEM is disturbingly awesome! 100% agree.

MertzRocks

Sorry, you're right - but I'm just voicing an opinion, not trying to step on you. Sorry again. I had already made my list below. Go ahead and step on me...

MertzRocks

Okay. Dont mind you just stepping on my recommendation instead of just making your own. Totally needed your opinion.

Antonio K

The original movies, not the Bad Reboot (Robot) movies.

Chief

Ooh, Secondhand Lions, great choice!

Chief

Basic is a good one!

Chief

I second Walk The Line. Joaquin Phoenix and Spoon Withersreese. :D

MertzRocks

Yeah, "The Star Trek trilogy" is: Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock and Voyage Home.

MertzRocks

I second Watership Down. A classic.

MertzRocks

You haven't done a lot of westerns, so with that in mind my first recommendation would be Lonesome Dove. It's actually a 4-part miniseries but it is well worth it and widely regarded by both fans and critics as one of the best ever made and has an incredible ensemble cast. I highly, HIGHLY suggest you check it out, and you'd be one of the few who've reacted to it, which would set you apart from most reactors. For a more comedic experience with some heart, I'd go with City Slickers. Very funny and enjoyable and has some emotional moments, too. And one of the main performers won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for it as well.

Slate

Clerks Reservoir Dogs Blues Brothers Smokey and the Bandit We Were Soldiers Godfather Training Day Waterboy Any Given Sunday The Replacements W. Battleship

SnakeandNape

Oh and a film that I have NEVER SEEN reacted to online: The Illusionist, with Edward Norton

David Bennett

I would never have remembered that movie even existed... Thanks.

MertzRocks

I am a fan of old school sci-fi movies, here are my favorites: •Them!(1954)- which is one of the first giant bug movies and has a great cast •The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms(1953)-this is has stop motion special effects by the great Ray Harryhausen. It was also the inspiration for the Godzilla franchise • The Thing from Another World(1951)- it is based on the novella “Who Goes There?” John Carpenter will remake in as The Thing in 1982. •Forbidden Planet(1956)-which is a space film •It!The Terror from Beyond Space(1958)-the Alien screenwriter has said this was an inspiration for the Alien film. •Godzilla franchise and other Toho films- it is one of the oldest running franchises starting in 1954 with the original Godzilla movie in Japan.

MrDannySteele

Yeah 42 while it's still April... Aw shoot... ;D

MertzRocks

Movies that will make her cry.

Joe Mallard

I'd have a hard time watching the David Lynch movie (lol), but I also agree.

MertzRocks

Mortal engines is a good one. So is kingsman (3 movies)

nicholas ch

STARDUST was to be on my list as well! Need to go edit my novella (not a ton of movies listed, but still a long comment).

MertzRocks

IDK if anyone has reacted to those yet... If not yeah go for it.

MertzRocks

LOL

MertzRocks

There's. NO. remake. ;D

MertzRocks

She did that, July 2021

MertzRocks

Just a note about Mad Max: No one seems to ever react to the classic Max movies with Mel Gibson. While the 3rd installment was totally campy and corny, it had its moments; BUT THE FIRST TWO ARE CLASSICS: Mad Max -and- The Road Warrior. I will also strongly second STARDUST, which should have been on my list!

MertzRocks

Mentionned it on the last sci-fi poll but she already watched it :(

Mathieu Paquin

I will second Conan the Barbarian, Empire Records, The Dark Crystal, Heavy Metal, Porky's, The Thing*, and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure*. * = these have been reacted to a lot though...

MertzRocks

I think there are a BUNCH of martial arts films she should watch and these two are HIGH on my list. a few others: from Jet Li: Fearless, Romeo Must Die, Unleashed, Kiss of the Dragon, from Jackie Chan: the OG Drunken Master (1978), the sequel Legend of Drunken Master, First Strike, Rumble in the Bronx, Shanghai Knights, Shanghai Noon, Operation Condor, Supercop I would LOVE to see her react to a Thai film called Chocolate, from 2008, starring JeeJa Yanin. Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer, from Stephen Chow are well worth your time too. House of Flying Daggers, Zhang Ziyi. Donnie Yen: Iron Monkey, Ip Man, and FINALLY: a hong kong flick called So Close, Zhao Wei, Shu Qi and Karen Mok.

David Bennett

Time Bandits (1981)

Chinablack

(Well, NOBODY has reacted to it!) ;D

MertzRocks

WANTED (2008) - starring Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie, Chris Pratt

Matt Chris

A bunch of my favorites that (as far as I know - I could be wrong) NO ONE has yet reacted to. First and foremost a western everyone seems to forget: -LITTLE BIG MAN (1970, Dustin Hoffman, Faye Dunaway) I know it's spring but this Christmas installment seems to fall by the wayside and I think it's the best Scrooge anyone has done. -A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951, Alastair Sim) One I suggested to my favorite Scottish creator, though sci-fi, it's a bit different, and no one has reacted to it that I know of... - JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH (1959 James Mason, Pat Boone) Another older and different sci-fi that never leaves Earth: - FANTASTIC VOYAGE (1966, Raquel Welch, Donald Pleasance) Three musical selections, I think none have ever been reacted to: - DETROIT ROCK CITY (1999, Eddie Furlong, Sam Huntington, KISS) - THE RUNAWAYS (2010, Kirsten Stewart, Dakota Fanning Michael Shannon) - ROCK 'N' ROLL HIGH SCHOOL (1979, P.J. Soles, Dey Young, Clint Howard) Possibly someone reacted to DRC but I've only found reviews. Only two of those are comedies. Now I'm not the biggest Will Ferrell fan, but team him up with John C. Reilly and the mayhem rocks! Plus I have never seen anyone react to these (though maybe someone did). - TALLADEGA NIGHTS (2006) - STEP BROTHERS (2008) Three movies that make up a trilogy looking at Superheroes a little differently than we are used to. The EASTRAIL Trilogy: - UNBREAKABLE (2000, Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson) - SPLIT (2016, James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Betty Buckley) McAvoy absolutely deserved at least an Oscar nomination for this! - GLASS (2019, Willis, McAvoy, Jackson, Sarah Paulson) This is a fantasy movie that has lots of heart and I (and others here) think you'd love it. - STARDUST (2007, Clare Danes, Charlie Cox, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert DeNiro) Finally I'll leave you with this gem. Many will call this a basketball movie. No; though it is an important character and plot element, this is more about finding oneself. - FINDING FORRESTER (2000, Sean Connery, Rob Brown, Anna Paquin, F. Murray Abraham) I could go on - mostly with sci-fi I think... LOL :D I didn't put 1973's FANTASTIC PLANET on the list! Wow! (oh wait...) ______________^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^__________________LOL

Bad Boys (1983) - starring Sean Penn ** Teen delinquent Mick O'Brien (Sean Penn) is sent to juvenile hall after unintentionally killing the younger sibling of a rival gang leader, Paco Moreno (Esai Morales), in a drug-deal con gone wrong. Prison life proves even more brutal than the streets when Mick is forced to face off against reigning prison toughs Viking (Clancy Brown) and Tweety (Robert Lee Rush). Worse yet, on the outside, Paco is threatening to take revenge on those close to Mick -- including his girlfriend (Ally Sheedy). ** I copied synopsis from Google Search film overview. I feel you’d get a kick out of this early 80’s film.

I've noticed very few reaction steamers have done 2008's "Speed Racer", maybe due to its stigma as both a critical and box office bomb. BUT.... it's reached cult classic status as being a quirky wonderful family film, a kinetically-charged sports racing spectacle, and a fun live-action adaptation of the old Japanese manga/anime series. Barring that, other sports/racing drama films like Ford v Ferrari and 2013's "Rush" come highly recommended as well!

Stardust, Dredd, The Count of Monte Cristo (2002), The Riddick series starting with Pitch Black, Cabin in the Woods, The Book of Eli, hell, any Denzel Washington movie...I'll leave it at that before I go through my entire collection... :)

I see some writing the Dune movies and I just want to add to those suggesting it toalso include the 80's version and the early 2000's TV series adaptations since it would be coolfor a reactor to compare how the different adaptations use the source material.

Whale Rider Beasts of the Southern Wild The Florida Project Little Big League The Ladykillers (2004 version) Second Hand Lions Wedding Crashers Other than Wedding Crashers, these movies get very few reaction videos and all deserve them.

Haven't seen you do many sports movie reactions, but I would love to see you watch Rocky (let's be honest that's more a love story than a boxing movie), Remember the Titans, 42, Field of Dreams, Rudy to name a few.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil. It stars Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor as two men who witness a murder. The only problem is that only one of the them heard the crime and the other saw it since Wilder is deaf and Pryor is blind. The police think that they did it so they have to escape to find who did and to clear their names. It’s a comedy/thriller.

Haven't seen many westerns yet on this reaction channel. the "Fistful of Dollars" trilogy was already suggested but I would also add "Open Range", "Once Upon a Time in the West", and "Legends of the Fall".

Michael Labs

I interviewed the director of The Wall. A really sharp articulate and warm fellow.

Sorcerer, great underrated movie

Connor Clarey

12 Angry Men is a great older movie.

Richard Lowe (The Writing King)

Man from earh a really low budget one room gripping discussion between few people with a fascinating topic, should really be something they show at movie schools

Five Elements Ninjas was recommended to me a couple days ago and it... it's insane. It's a Chinese B movie from 1982. I swear the dub was done by one guy in a basement somewhere. But it's SO good.

Willow McPhie

Can I suggest swedish movies? Like the Millenium trilogy of murder mysterier and its american remake that us actually really good!

Jonathan Wiking

Departures (2008) It’s a beautiful Japanese movie about life, parenthood, family, and death. It’s without a doubt my top 5 movies of all time. I guarantee it will make you cry, too, so premium react content from you as well!

Kung fury - it's a funny micro movie that will give you some laughs 🤣

I think I told you this the very first time I commented. The con man genre, which is a sub-genre of crime. You can dominate this field, m'lady. "The Sting" is arguably the best of the genre, and I would argue it. In addition: Paper Moon (a beautiful movie, funny and touching both): Matchstick Men; Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (a hysterical comedy but a smart con movie too); The Grifters (dark); The Spanish Prisoner (also dark). They're all great, and you'll own your own genre because no one else is doing this. I can't wait. :)

Jeff

I can't remeber the last time you watched a Western! Maybe the Dollar trilogy With Clint Eastwood as a start? I would also want to suggest the horror series "From". Probably the most underrated show on telly right now.

I'd love you to explore more classic films because they really set the standard for most all films today. So I'll recommend big time a film I'm certain you'd love ~ THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD (1938) shot in glorious Technicolor with tremendous performances , a rousing score and perfect dialogue. Am I selling you on it? 😍

When it comes to martial arts movies, I recommend The Raid 1 and 2. It's Indonesian martlal arts called pencak silat and it's some of the most insane fights in cinema. Great story, as well.

Dune Part Two. If you want to know more about it since Part One, then this is it. The other half of the first book. It’s easily one the best Sci Fi films in history alongside Part One and one of the best book to movie adaptations of all time. I’m almost done reading the second book; Dune Messiah which its movie is currently in development. Your reaction to it will be massively worth it!

Calvin Kopp

If you mean the Kelvin Timeline trilogy then I have to disagree. Watch the OG Trek before the Reboot movies.
