😊🛰️Sci-Fi film poll!!👾

Hi everyone!

The next movie I need you guys to choose for me is gonna be a Sci-Fi film so here's the poll for that!!! I'm not too well versed in Sci-Fi so I'm gonna need all the recommendations I could get 😊 so please help (o゚v゚)ノ

As usual, polls will be changed around in the future and don't worry - this does NOT mean I'll ONLY be doing Sci-Fi films!! Each poll usually sticks to a type of theme/genre, and I think that's the best way to go about them. If you have any suggestions or creative recommendations don't be afraid to comment them down below!! I love hearing what you guys have to say 💞

Also I had heard a lot of clashing opinions in regards to which Planet of the Apes movie to start with, so I figured I'd start with the 2011 one since it's the beginning of the triology that seems to be the most popular! Also with a new one coming out - but of course I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, I haven't seen the films so I need you guys to help guide me at times 🥲

It was SO difficult to pick only 12 titles with the astonishing number of amazing suggestions you all have given me, so don't worry - we have plenty to swap and explore in the future. ❤️

Appreciate you guys so much, let's see what wins!!!

And it's not even close.

2001 A Space Odyssey.... Is the absolute best film to get one's feet wet in this genre. It's a 1st Class movie 🎥🍿 that is timeless.

R G

The original would be far better imo

Slate

Also just remembered Solaris(1972). Some patience may be required.

mikethemotormouth

I`ll give an honourable mention to Dark Star 1974, a different kind of Sci-Fi film but I enjoyed it.

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

I believe I have suggested that one previously but yes I agree, I just chose to stick to the `70`s this time.

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

there is more than one Totlal Recall

Steve H

Honorable mention to Fantastic Voyage(1966)

mikethemotormouth

A visual feast!

mikethemotormouth

Not sci-fi, but ... Speed Racer, anyone?

Thaddeus Winterson

Oh, I almost forgot. Aliens! You watched Alien, Vicky, but you haven't watched the sequel yet - and you NEED to, believe me. Aliens. Watch it ASAP. You won't regret it.

Slate

I don't know; I remember really liking RISE when I first saw it in 2011. I was hoping the sequels would expand on it in interesting ways (which they did), but I still thought it was a good movie in its own right.

DARK CITY is fantastic, but for me it's kind of a toss-up between the theatrical and director's cuts. The director's cut fixes one flaw at the beginning, and that is an improvement. But then it adds 10 minutes of extra footage that isn't all that necessary.

Bryan Tuck

Some crackers in here Vicky 👍 voted on quite a few so might actually vote the winner for a change 😀 would love to see underworld on a poll Kate beckinsale kicking butt what's not to like 🔥

Ian

Veeee when are you going to check out the Avatar Live action?????? :)))

Jonah Bertorelli

Is it though? I maintain if the sequels weren’t great or hadn’t been made it would have a much worse reputation. I know that if I like a movie I don’t care about plot holes or people saying that’s not how things work in the real world so I’m not going to do that but it’s completely skippable.

Jacob King

Ah, in these days when scifi has gentrified itself into arcane intellectual muddles, it does an old movie fan’s heart good to watch the new kids STILL try to delve into the last half hour of 2001. 😁 And still jawdrop over the look and plot of Forbidden Planet.

Eric Janssen

Apes is fantastic...

Joe Mallard

There is no need to watch the orignal the trilogy stands strong on its own v

Rey

Hell yea, Apes!!! LFG

Rey

Hoping for Terminator 1 and 2 as well as the Back to the Future trilogy someday.

Mecha Saiyan

Yep, exactly. It is a must watch.

Richard Lowe (The Writing King)

yes! yes!

Richard Lowe (The Writing King)

Dredd is fantastic.

Richard Lowe (The Writing King)

DARK CITY is one of my very favorite movies! Must watch.

Richard Lowe (The Writing King)

All good movies.

Richard Lowe (The Writing King)

Watch them both!

Richard Lowe (The Writing King)

Both excellent movies.

Richard Lowe (The Writing King)

Watch the one with Charlton Heston first. That's the original.

Richard Lowe (The Writing King)

Yes but It is actually more than that it is the inspiration of ALL space based films since it came out

MrDannySteele

1990 with arnold!

VKunia

In addition to what's on the list, V, I have a few more suggestions: Babylon 5: The Gathering (pilot for the TV series) - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED The Last Starfighter - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Dune (80's version) Enemy Mine Dark City (preferably director's cut)

Slate

It's a weird conundrum. The first version is a better film hands down, but the second version is a vastly better adaptation of the original source material. In fact, they didn't even wanna call the second version "Total Recall", they wanted to name it after the original story "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale", but no studio was ever gonna sell a movie under that weird title when they could market it as a remake for the box office.

Inhuman Paradox

Apes Together Strong!

Inhuman Paradox

All of these are good (except Rise of Planet of the Apes) but Children of Men is one of the best films ever made.

Jacob King

Suggestions from the `70`s :- The Andromeda Strain 1971, Silent Running 1972, Westworld 1973, Soylent Green 1973, Rollerball 1975, Logan`s Run 1976, Capricorn One 1977.

Arrival (2016) is a absolute must watch, directed by Denis Villeneuve (Dune, Blade Runner 2049). One of the best sci-fi movies of all time imho!

Mathieu Paquin

Which of the Total Recall movies is this one referring to? They’re both decent, but I prefer the original one.

Andy

Come on CHILDREN OF MEN we need this!!!!!!

Matt

Why is Dredd on this list? Judge Dredd is the better film. Dredd is garbage. It did terribly. Nobody liked it for a reason. Judge Dredd is a cult classic.

Raptor

A couple other sci-fi movies you might enjoy are GATTACA (1997) and A.I.: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (2001), both of which have become a bit more relevant in recent years. :)

Bryan Tuck

2001 is an essential film. For Planet of the Apes, I'd recommend watching the first one first, since it's what all later movies are referring back to, one way or another. After that, fine, skip to the new ones.

Bill Woods

The original PLANET OF THE APES from 1968 is definitely a classic, but RISE OF is honestly a pretty good place to start, too. It is, in my opinion, one of the best franchise reboots of this whole reboot cycle we've been in for the past 15-20 years or so. There are elements from (and nods to) the original series scattered throughout RISE OF and its sequels (DAWN OF, WAR FOR, and the upcoming KINGDOM OF), but they follow their own continuity, so it's not necessary to be familiar with the older films in order to understand and enjoy them.

Bryan Tuck

Out of those, I voted for Snowpiercer. Amazing film. But I also wanted to recommend another. Sunshine(2007) is a crazy sci-fi film, realistically done and designed by Danny Boyle. (director of Trainspotting, 128 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire, and 127 hrs) The creators consulted with physicist Dr. Brian Cox who served as scientific advisor on the film to attempt to get the methods of what the characters did in their spacecraft to accomplish their mission as realistic as possible. It's also got a huge cast featuring Cillian Murphy, Michelle Yeoh, Rose Byrne, Chris Evans, Cliff Curtis, Benedict Wong, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Troy Garity. Lots of other good picks on this poll too of course.

YodatheHobbit

For my reaction recommendation I suggest Brazil (1985 film). If you were going to go with Planet of the Apes, I would recommend the 1968 one with Roddy McDowall and Charlton Heston. I remember watching it on TV in the '70s.

Chris Brown

Children of Men would be my first pick

Robert da Spruce

Please keep Dredd on your radar it is awesome and far better than Stallone's Judge Dredd.

Tony Mandler

Personally my 3rd favorite Philip K Dick movie adaptation

mikethemotormouth

Would love to see you watch Dredd

Josie Lawson

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is the beginning of one of the best trilogies since LOTR. Plus there's a new movie coming out soon!

Joe Mallard

Apes together strong ✊

exaven

Either Children of Men or Rise of the Apes are really good picks.

Jorge Hernandez

I would LOVE if you watched the series The Orville. It's basically Seth MacFarlane's take on Star Trek. He plays the captain. He's a huge Star Trek fan. You can find a video of him as a kid doing a little Star Trek fan episode. So it's really neat that he got this opportunity. And he killed it. It's so good.

Willow McPhie

This is the first time i've seen tenet in a poll from any of my patreon creators. Please, I beg you, Please watch tenet. It is my favorite movie of all time.

Benjamin Zimmerman

There are 2 Total Recalls. Both are a must - each has its own strengths.

Richard Lowe (The Writing King)

They Live is awesome. If you do Total Recall, make sure it's the Arnold Schwarzenegger one, not the remake.

Tom W.

Forbidden planet - the movie that Star Trek is based on.

Richard Lowe (The Writing King)

Children of Men is a rollercoaster and an absolute master class in storytelling and filmmaking, MUST SEE!!
