πSci-Fi film poll!!β¨π
Added 2024-01-08 21:25:26 +0000 UTCHi everyone!!
Welcome to 2024!! I hope everyone had a good holiday season and New Years. :)
This is the first poll of the year and siiiiiiince I had asked you guys what genre of film you'd like to see more of - here's that poll!! Sci-Fi was the winner π
Therefore, I'll be taking your recommendations and throwing them on this, and you guys can choose what Sci-FI film I'll be watching next!!
As usual, polls will be changed around in the future and don't worry - this does NOT mean I'll ONLY be doing Sci-Fi films!! Each poll usually sticks to a type of theme/genre, and I think that's the best way to go about them. If you have any suggestions or creative recommendations don't be afraid to comment them down below!! I love hearing what you guys have to say π
It was SO difficult to pick only 14 titles with the astonishing number of amazing suggestions you all have given me, so don't worry - we have plenty to swap and explore in the future. β€οΈ
Appreciate you guys so much, let's see what wins!!!

2024-01-11 02:58:29 +0000 UTCHeh; all good. Just didn't want you to get turned off to the franchise by the one movie that had nothing to do with any of the others. :)

2024-01-10 21:00:34 +0000 UTCYou should check out "high school" from 2010, it's a stoner comedy (action/comedy) that's hilarious. One of my favorite movies of all time. If I told you the plot you'd wanna watch it immediately, but I wanna try to get it in a poll without having to spoil it!!! lol Not to be confused with 'Mac and Devin go to high school' or "how high". it's just called "high school" with a green locker for a thumbnail.

2024-01-10 02:04:39 +0000 UTCIts the best one of the poll.

2024-01-09 05:31:01 +0000 UTCMiss vkunia would you please put any other planet of the ape movie on this poll , that 2001 is pure garbage and is not connected to the old ape films or the new ones
Rey
2024-01-09 05:30:02 +0000 UTCIt surprised me too. It's a good movie but I didn't realize it was so beloved.

2024-01-09 00:07:36 +0000 UTCHardly anyone even REMEMBERS Fantastic Planet from 1973 with the weird animation and EVEN WEIRDER soundtrack (which kicks ass imho). How about even Fantastic Voyage from 1966? Anyone remember THAT? Though dated now, the fx were pretty cutting edge then. I hated some of the sound fx tho lol.

2024-01-08 23:42:35 +0000 UTCDistrict 9 in the lead out of all these? lol

2024-01-08 23:26:29 +0000 UTCHow about the rest of the Predator series? You've only done the first movie
Darth Praetus
2024-01-08 23:19:26 +0000 UTC2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY is a masterpiece, but you do kind of have to give it time to envelop you. It's very slow and deliberately-paced, but it will blow your mind in the end. :) (There's also a brief "overture" at the beginning that seems to confuse some reactors.) Also... standing in its shadow is the sequel 2010: THE YEAR WE MAKE CONTACT, which is a more conventional movie, but really not a bad one.

2024-01-08 23:14:05 +0000 UTCForbidden Planet (1956). Gotta love Leslie Nielsen.
Jordan Love
2024-01-08 23:05:20 +0000 UTCUp to you of course, but the 2001 version of PLANET OF THE APES is probably the *least* essential movie in that franchise, not to mention one of the weakest. :) I would definitely start with either the original from 1968, or RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES (2011), which began what is generally considered the "Caesar Trilogy." That trilogy also includes DAWN OF... (2014) and WAR FOR... (2017), and it's mostly self-contained, although the new movie coming out later this year (KINGDOM OF...) apparently follows it, continuity-wise. Hope all that makes sense!

2024-01-08 22:55:52 +0000 UTCHave to go for the abyss which ofc means it's screwed cuz my voting success rate is beyond terrible π

2024-01-08 22:55:49 +0000 UTCI'm surprised THE ABYSS isn't getting more love. A true Cameron classic.
_tragicmike
2024-01-08 22:45:18 +0000 UTCYes, the Special Edition version is the only way to go.
_tragicmike
2024-01-08 22:44:14 +0000 UTCIf you're going to do an Apes film, it has to be the Andy Serkis trilogy.

2024-01-08 22:42:10 +0000 UTCI'm in the minority that is OK with either

2024-01-08 22:33:14 +0000 UTCThis is a pretty great list of Sci-Fi movies. I'll quietly shout-out Moon and Snowpiercer, these are definitely less well known and lower-profile movies so I'm not super surprised to see them pretty far down the rankings, but if people are looking for some fun stuff to check out on their own time, those two stand out on this list.
Erik Stevenson
2024-01-08 22:18:10 +0000 UTCVoted for 9 films. This list is too good.
Jacob King
2024-01-08 21:58:55 +0000 UTCIt is. And no one can forget the back alley fight sequence. But it's also fairly boring in the second half.

2024-01-08 21:57:19 +0000 UTCShe watched both Blade Runner movies already
Stephen Werben
2024-01-08 21:57:03 +0000 UTCwhy is 2001 apes here instead of the original 1968 one?
Jonathan Wiking
2024-01-08 21:56:49 +0000 UTCThe director's cut of the Abyss is still my go-to example of a movie that is wildly different between the original theatrical and the director's cut. It makes it a totally different movie.
Tom W.
2024-01-08 21:56:42 +0000 UTCThe Arnie one is the only real one period The other is a pale imitation.
Tom W.
2024-01-08 21:55:49 +0000 UTCI voted for James Cameron's excellent The Abyss which sadly is not scoring high, but V if you do watch it be sure to watch the special edition which is what Cameron wanted released, but the studio cut a major scene because they ludicrously wanted the movie to be shorter.
Robert Jewell
2024-01-08 21:47:07 +0000 UTCDistrict 9 is a must watch
Justin
2024-01-08 21:46:25 +0000 UTCPlease also consider Elysium 2013 & Blade Runner 1982.
Jonathan Shulfer
2024-01-08 21:44:25 +0000 UTCI would highly recommend Arrival (2016), same director as Dune and Blade Runner 2049. I think a lot of people suggested it as well! One of the best modern sci-fi movies imho, incredible storytelling, cinematography and acting, I think you'd love it :)
Mathieu Paquin
2024-01-08 21:42:21 +0000 UTCGreat, definitely a worthy contender!
Stephen Werben
2024-01-08 21:41:02 +0000 UTCThere is a surprising low amount of reactions to classic and modern sci-fi out there

2024-01-08 21:37:52 +0000 UTCIt's a marvelous film, but the pacing could be a problem.

2024-01-08 21:34:25 +0000 UTCThe Abyss got its 4K release last month from Jimmy Cameron when True Lies, Aliens, Avatar did. The new release it not only amazing, but it included both versions of the film in one: Theatrical and Director's Cut.
Brian's Dog
2024-01-08 21:31:34 +0000 UTCTotal Recall... there are 2 version so which one are you thinking of? I hope the 1990 classic with Arnie
