I finally got around to watching this with you. I avoided it because I was on the verge of living a life similar to Charlie and I knew this was going to be a powerful film. Its taken me almost 2 years for my body to recover enough for me to feel comfortable seeing Brendan like this; for me to see myself as I could've been reflected in his performance and appearance. As a happy coincidence, I was delighted to see 'honesty in writing' was such a poignant part of the story. When you live life to this extreme, honesty is so valuable. You don't care how mean it is. You just care that it's not fake. You don't have time for subtext or the lies we tell ourselves to make us feel better. Feeling positive instead of confronting truth is how people like Charlie end up the way they do; eating his stress away. He can't listen to lies to feel better but having a full stomach physically makes us feel calm and comforted and even that fuzzy warmness; and especially not empty. Although Liz was enabling him, especially with food, I disagree that the wheelchair was enabling. Yes, walking is good for him but at his size, his own lower back and pelvis are probably crumbling under the weight they are supporting when he stands. The wheelchair gives his upper body, arms, wrists, ankles, and calves far more exercise without straining his pelvis and spine. If he were to work on recovery, the wheelchair would've been the first step a physical therapist would recommend (that and using a pool to help take the weight off the joints while you stretch and exercise them) to get these parts of his body strengthened and promote weight loss by letting the body know that we intend to move more and burn some that fat to get the metabolism switched back on. I really really recommend The Man from Earth (2007) if you found the idea of 'everything in one room' kind of film to your liking. As well as, honesty in writing and a massively thought provoking script. When a film uses a single location for the entirety of the film, it conveys a theater performance kind of feel and pulls you in more intensely because you feel like you're just sitting in a chair in the room with the actors/characters. Its was written by the playwright Jerome Bixby. He started writing it in the 1960's and finished it on his deathbed in 1998. His son, and fans of his works, are the only reason this play got turned into a film. He wrote many sci-fi and western novels and a few episodes in sci-fi tv series like Star Trek and Twilight Zone; also, co-wrote the film version of Fantastic Voyage (1966), based off of Isaac Asimov's novel. The Man from Earth (2007) is a sleeper hit of a indie film, imho, but very low budget.

Thats actually my still my favorite Aronofsky film, I remember seeing it in theaters with my dad when I was probably way to young

Darren Aronofski got Mickey rourke’s career back 10 years ago in The Wrestler and he’s done it again with Brendan Fraser
