Interstellar | Full Length Reaction

Hey guys!! So... here's Interstellar!! You guys REALLY wanted me to watch this movie well.. This movie really threw me cause the first time I had watched it (I was going through it and really didnt pay attention) I didn't recall anything about spoilers humanity being on the brink of extinction or that there was a second planet at all LOL I felt like I had watched parts of the movie rather than the entire thing, so here is me watching it in a way where I can really pay attention to detail and experience the film. and I ADORED it. This has easily become one of my absolute favorite movies and had no idea Matthew McConaughey would play the role so perfectly. I wish there was a second part or just more of this movie because I absolutely fell in love with it. It tore at your heartstrings so much with the deep and gut wrenching concepts and it really made you feel. I loved every second of it. Thank you guys so much for watching!

Thank you VKunia for a wonderful and heartfelt reaction. You should watch Contact (1997), another wonderful science heavy movie by the late beloved scientist Carl Sagan and directed by Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, Flight, and many others). Contact stars Jodie Foster and, wait for it, Matthew McConaughey. It even has a strong "daughter" figure as part of the drama - and there's a mention of Murphy's law. A lot of coincidences with Interstellar (or maybe deliberate homages they were paying to Contact). One of the many things that makes Interstellar great is that even though they introduce several fantastical elements, they treat them in an extremely science realistic way so they become serious "what ifs" rather than fantasies. Carl Sagan did the same for Contact.

I think also that Murphy grew up with the decades long trauma of her Dad having been ripped away from her, of her Dad betraying her and all of humanity. She held and internalized that anger trauma for decades and even though intellectually she eventually knew the exact opposite was true, emotionally she had shut him out of her life and built a life without him. Her reaction was true cognitive dissonance because she went to great lengths to see him, but then also pushed him away at the end (coming up with a rationale to do so). Cooper, meanwhile, was racked with guilt for what he had done, and accepted her judgement that he should walk away. A great movie doesn't have to portray us as all rising above our humanity to be noble and perfect, it sometimes shows us with all our flaws and insecurities as humans but still getting through our lives the best we can.

Have you ever watched 'About Time (2013)'? Knowing that you're sensitive to time + reminiscing + relationships story, make me feel like you may have a good time with this film. It's one of my favorite story about love & family with time as a core concept. The story has many uplifting and sad moments that may make you laughs / smiles / cries. ❤️

Interstellar and the new Top Gun Maverick are my fav movies of all time. Top Gun maverick becuase, not only is the music in the new movie done by Hanz Zimmer as well, all the flying in the F18s isnt CGI. So look forward to that, and we all know how much you love F/A 18 Super Hornets xD

I really want to watch this reaction, but I don't feel like crying so... maybe someday...

I think the intent with Murph not wanting her dad to watch her die is that at that point in her life, she had reached a point where she was at peace with what her father needed to do to save humanity, and by the end of her life, she had lived a fulfilling and full life with her children and grandchildren and all of the family that she had built, all thanks to the sacrifice that her father made for them all. But she also knew that while she had her entire life to come arrive at that feeling, for her father, the near-failure to save humanity and return home was entirely raw and fresh, so to return home only to watch his daughter die in his first minutes back with the rest of humanity would be worse than her assuring him that she has her new family and that she got to live a vibrant life, and that they would all be there for her in her last moments, and that she can spare her father the pain of having to see it with his own eyes. Instead, he can leave her the right way this time, and go on to continue the great work that not only enabled her to raise her family, but that would allow for more of humanity to experience the same thing. For us as a viewer, perhaps it feels like that's robbing them of a few extra moments that they could have spent together, but I imagine that from Murphy's perspective, she knows that their circumstance is extraordinary and difficult, and there's no way to make that circumstance entirely free of pain, but the small gesture of assuring them that her new family is there for her might ease some of that pain, so it's okay for Cooper to finally let go knowing that he kept his promise in the end.

I love this movie and this reaction, thanks Vee! The family interactions of love and pain are absolutely gut wrenching, I sob every time he sees his daughter again and leaves again. The space visuals are just so stunning and spectacular to me.

This is a Top-5 All Time for me. It manages to thread the needle of being high-concept Sci-Fi while having a deep emotional core in a way that's incredibly rare to see. Glad you liked it (and honestly, I think it's maybe at it's best on the re-watch as you pick up on more).

Ohh I see, yeah they didn't explain anything about the gravitational anomaly and it had me keep guessing, i figured it'd be a bigger point in the story - i didnt think they'd throw that in there with no explanation like that LOL

VKunia

Some little facts about this one: The cornfield was created just for the movie and supposedly the crops turned a profit after the filming. The visual effects you see outside the ship and such were actually projected on screens. So, what the audience saw in the film was actually what the actors saw on set. No green screens were used in the movie, so even the tesseract at the end was done in camera. This was personally my favorite theater experience. Seeing it in IMAX on an 80ft screen was absolutely riveting.

Cooper's test flight crashed because of a gravitational anomaly of some sort, they don't describe how they came to this conclusion. It was this anomaly, among others that were noticed afterward, that gave NASA a heads up that there may be useful data here to explain how gravity really works. Things were starting to go to hell on earth some time before this. I suspect all the anomalies were either caused by Cooper himself in the tesseract, or generated by the many angled future humans to ensure Cooper takes care of his daughter first instead of being a test pilot.

You are most welcome, Vicky!

Walter Stinnett

Thank you so much Walter :') I appreciate that

VKunia

They mentioned how they had an issue with increased gravity and thats why Cooper crashed the first time?? I originally thought it was what you said until they kept hinting at that

VKunia

Please watch TENET!

Chase Gardner

Gravity wasn't increasing or being the source of any problem with Earth. Climate change, a crop blight, and poor overall crop management were the cause of the food shortages. The blight was the biggest problem, as it was killing off the major food staple crops worldwide.

Thank you for such a moving reaction. I am so sorry for the loss of your grandmother. You showed a lot of courage and I truly respect that. I am a new patreon and I watched your Fellowship of the Ring reaction evening before last and what you said about time reminds me of a Gandalf quote. "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us." I hope this quote will encourage you. You were not being dramatic at all, but honest and that was wonderful. I was crying along with you! I look forward to catching up on all of your reactions.

Walter Stinnett

This was a treat! I do love this one and it is on my yearly rotation of bangers to watch. Thank you for this one! The WWZ auto-play got me like, "Double Feature time!"

Movies I'd want to have with me on a deserted island Original Star Wars trilogy LOTR trilogy Interstellar

I hope some day you react to Moon (2009) and Sunshine (2007)!

Flukemarm

Apparently Christopher Nolan recreated a nuclear explosion without CGI for his next film

Matt

I recommend the film FIRST MAN 2018 about Neil Armstrong, the most realistic space travel film iv ever seen, and I know your a space nerd you'll love it

Matt

I'm so happy you did this one!
