BABYMETAL - Tales of the Destinies LIVE (Blocked Reaction)

Comments

This one of the first babymetal song I checked out! Really elevated the standard!

Thanks for the reaction!! So glad I subscribed 🤘🤘

That’s dope! I figured it would be interesting to check out more raw live performances to get a more realistic gauge of their live sound, and how much their backing tracks are really being utilized. Cause with the edited official performance, they can edit a lot of that in post.

Jaron Geil

Thanks! For some reason this one was able to be up for 2 to 3 days before it was taken down. There’s so much happening in the performance in this song, I could probably watch it 20 times and notice something different every time! An epic song and performance for sure! 🤘

Jaron Geil

Thanks for joining! This is definitely an extremely unique performance! Seeing them live in Japan’s gotta be on the bucket list for sure! 🙌

I loved your reaction to my all time favourite BabyMetal song. Kudos to everyone involved with this, it’s utter perfectiont in my eyes. I bought the blueray of this concert solely on the strength of TOTD and it was some of the best money I’ve ever spent. This was an amazing concert and it would have been an amazing experience to have witnessed it in person. I’ve seen BM live but I have to see them in Japan at least once before I die.

I watched this when you first posted it before it got taken down. Don't remember if I commented at that time or not. TOTD is my No. 1 favorite Babymetal song. I like songs that have a lot of musical complexity and changes but that are still fun to listen to and TOTD is all of that. It sounds and looks challenging to perform both from a musical standpoint and for the choreography. Considering the ages of the two younger girls when this was recorded, their synchronized dance moves to this song are phenomenal, IMO. My favorite part of the song is that little 6 or 7-second piano ditty that comes out of nowhere when Yui and Moa do that cutesy little dance routine. So Kawaii! You can really tell that a lot of work went into the production of this song, behind the scenes and on stage. Really enjoyed your analysis on this one. Great song and great review.

I know! And for context, Su is now 26, and this year, Moa is 25 since Jul 4th, and Momo is 21 since March. So, for majority of the “older” content you react to, they were still in school lol. Crazy to think they were selling out 10K shows in mid-teen years. I was at home playing video games… 😰🤣

The only thing I didn’t like about the Tokyo Dome venue is it doesn’t appear to have “standing” areas. Everything had actual seats. This meant no mosh pits, hence less audience shots on camera. You should react to “Catch Me If You Can” on BM Remastered channel on YouTube. It has a logo over for copyrights, so should be safe? Ridiculous crowd for that entire festival lol. Also, Kami Band East solos, day-time festival, so minimal stage production too. Straight raw Babymetal at their finest. https://youtu.be/9BknGZDM1Lk?si=qDnTiCONWcQTGl2V The Road of Resistance performance from that venue had some insane walls of death as well haha.

Babymetal definitely utilized more vocal tracks for Su in the early days, but don’t get me wrong, she definitely sang live, with her own harmonies layered on the track, but not overtaking the live. I noticed that has drastically reduced over the years. Interestingly, Moa, and now Momo’s vocals see heavier track usage. I assume it’s because they are older now, and they’ve also been touring intensely (Apr 2023 - Dec 2023 = ~ almost 100 shows world wide in ~200 days 🫣). And their choreography is more rigorous than Su’s. Also, for the most recent live concert BluRay (Legend MM), it’s one of the “rawest” audio-wise. Su sounds like she is almost 100% live with no tracks. Only very minimal exceptions (e.g., Syncopation - “FLYYYYY” part, and a few other places). Hell, for Doki Doki Morning, the part where Su usually fake an obvious tracked “scream” in the middle, she didn’t even bother to do it 🤣. Babymetal knows what’s what haha. One of the reasons I respect them for being true to the art of music. 🤘🦊

I've noticed more recently that it seems like a lot of her harmonies are in the backing tracks, especially in the older performances. which isn't uncommon for bands to do by any means. I think you're right about the other 2 singing over their own tracks as well.

Jaron Geil

Yeah normally for shows with a lot of seating, the venue will remove a portion of the seats near the main floor area so people can move around more, but either way, still a spectacular show!

Jaron Geil

Nice! Doesn't surprise me that they practice 6 times a week. Gotta ingrain that muscle memory for singing and dancing! Love the stage as well!

Jaron Geil

There are always big questions about what is track and what is live. Su always sings live but she does harmonize with herself on track in a number of songs. I think in this case that is what you are hearing. In addition I think that Moa and Yui in this case were singing backup but were also singing on top of themselves on track.

Ganimal hit the main points. This was in Tokyo Dome , which I believe is the largest indoor venue in Japan and is usually a baseball stadium. In this configuration it seated 55,000 and Babymetal sold it out two nights in a row. And I think everyone was seated which was a bit weird for a Babymetal show and means no walls of death or circle pits. The stage was unbelievable as Ganimal described it. As far as how hard everyone works - just look at the closeups of Su in the last 30 seconds or so. She is sweating like crazy.

Babymetal is pure magic. Only Babymetal can design an entire vocal, AND choreographed dance routine to "Dream Theater", haha. Mikiko Mizuno is the Choreographer and has been since Babymetal's inception. Moa said in a recent interview that they practice 6-days a week. The majority of it is for existing songs, but also to work on new songs, and experiment with different styles to stay current. These gals work their butts off to give us an amazing experience. Kudos and respect. Also, this stage is insane. The center column is an elevator shaft that the girls will take to the top platform during songs. The outer stage spins, the inner stage for Kami Band also spins, and the central stage is flanked by 3 elongated coffin-shaped walkways with a moving circular stage on top as well lol.
