"Kuya" is a respectful way to refer to an older man (Regardless of whether you are a man or a woman). Kuya is often used formally to address an older man you do not know or are not close with. If you're close friends/relatives with an older man, it's finel to drop saying "Kuya" or if they wish not to be called by it. Honorifics in PH are not as strict as in other Asian countries.
