I saw most of this film on television as a kid before I learned of The Fugitive ( I had to leave right after learning RDJ was the bad guy, it was also my first RDJ movie). It was only after I saw The Fugitive that I went back to it. It's been an eternity since I saw this and I feel pretty much the same. It's a fine thriller but pales in comparison to its predecessor. It's a pretty standard sequel in that it's a weaker retread of the original. The Fugitive is a classic, a film that's not only well-made, but also an easy watch. U.S. Marshals for me is just an easy watch.
It was directed by Stuart Baird, who's one of the great action/thriller film editors. A major collaborator of director Richard Donner on The Omen, Superman, Lethal Weapon 1-2. He also edited Die Hard 2, Casino Royale and Skyfall. He was able to try his hand at a directorial career with Executive Decision (a decent plane hijacking thriller starring Kurt Russell, John Leguizamo and Steven Seagal), U.S. Marshals and Star Trek Nemesis.
While not a commercial flop (102 million box-office on a 45 mil budget) , U.S. Marshals had a very mixed critical response and completely underperformed against The Fugitive (398 million box office on the same budget) which shelved any further sequels and following the commercial and critcal flop of his Star Trek film Baird was put in director jail.
Robert Downey Jr.'s legal and addiction troubles were at their worsts in 1996-2001 so right during the shooting of this movie. His comments on the film taken from Robert Downey Jr.: The Fall and Rise of the Comeback Kid:
"It's possibly the worst action movie of all time, and that's just not good for the maintenance of a good spiritual condition. You've had a traumatic year, you've been practically suicidal, what do you think would be really healing for you? How about like twelve weeks of running around as Johnny Handgun? I think that if you talk to a spirit guide, they would say, 'That'll kill you.' I thought maybe there was something I was missing, and what I really needed to do was to be in one of those films that I love taking my kid to. But it wound up being really depressing. I'd rather wake up in jail for a TB test than have to wake up another morning knowing I'm going to the set of U.S. Marshals."
Always a good time watching a film with you and yes Samantha, Daniel would not make an ideal cop.

This was really a cool Sequel and i love your Reaction !!! I Agree Snipes was really good in this ... I recommend "Blade 2", "The Jewel of The Nile" and "Crocodile Dundee 2" as next Sequels to watch ... Both are good ... For more Wesley I recommend "White Men Can't Jump from 1992 With Woody Harrelson, "Drop Zone" from 1994 and "Passenger 57" from 1992 ... For more Tommy Lee Jones I recommend "Under Siege" from 1992, "Blown Away" from 1994 and "Space Cowboys" from 2000 with Clint Eastwood

I'm glad to see that y'all enjoyed the movie. I consider this more of either a stand alone sequel or a spin-off. Zip guns are normally chambered in .22 Long Rifle because of the versatile the round is. Also, a Glock pistol cannot shoot underwater without some significant modifications made, but it has been done.

Never thought we'd get a movie that has Iron Man vs. Blade. lmao
Thank you both for finally reacting to this one. I've been waiting for it ever since "The Fugitive". This is the movie that actually introduced me to Robert Downey, Jr. So trust me, I was pissed when I found out he was the bad guy. lmao I really liked his character before that. Haha.
Thanks again!
