Joe Dirt (2001) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

As I said on the "Coming Soon" post, I am actually looking forward to watching this. You wouldn't necessarily guess just by looking at her name, but director Dennie Gordon is a woman. I may have mentioned this before, but since 2015, every year, I have participated in a challenge developed by Women in Film Los Angeles called #52FilmsByWomen, in which you pledge to watch one movie directed by a woman to average out to one a week. Obviously, that's easier for me than it is for you running the channel, but it would be nice to see some other great movies by women on the channel. Right now, with Joe Dirt, you have seven: • American Psycho (2000) dir. Mary Harron • Big (1988) dir. Penny Marshall • Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) dir. Amy Heckerling • League of Their Own, A (1992) dir. Penny Marshall • Lost in Translation (2003) dir. Sofia Coppola • Point Break (1991) dir. Kathryn Bigelow Here are some recommendations: • Bound (1996) dir. Lana and Lilly Wachowski • Bridget Jones' Diary (2001) dir. Sharon Maguire • But I'm a Cheerleader (1999) dir. Jamie Babbit • Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018) dir. Marielle Heller • Chilly Scenes of Winter (1979) dir. Joan Micklin Silver • Clueless (1995) dir. Amy Heckerling • Crossing Delancey (1988) dir. Joan Micklin Silver • Desperately Seeking Susan (1985) dir. Susan Seidelman • Dogfight (1991) dir. Nancy Savoca • Enough Said (2013) dir. Nicole Holofcener (a rom-com co-starring the late James Gandolfini, released after his death) • Eve's Bayou (1997) dir. Kasi Lemmons • First Cow (2019) dir. Kelly Reichardt • Frida (2002) dir. Julie Taymor • Gas Food Lodging (1992) dir. Allison Anders • Girlfight (2000) dir. Karyn Kusama • Girlfriends (1978) dir. Claudia Weill • In the Cut (2003) dir. Jane Campion • Leave No Trace (2018) dir. Debra Granik • Little Women (1994) dir. Gillian Armstrong • Little Women (2019) dir. Greta Gerwig • Love + Basketball (2000) dir. Gina Prince-Bythewood • Marie Antoinette (2006) dir. Sofia Coppola • Meek's Cutoff (2010) dir. Kelly Reichardt • Mikey and Nicky (1976) dir. Elaine May • Mississippi Masala (1991) dir. Mira Nair • Near Dark (1987) dir. Kathryn Bigelow • New Leaf, A (1971) dir. Elaine May • Notorious Bettie Page, The (2005) dir. Mary Harron • Pariah (2011) dir. Dee Rees • Past Lives (2023) dir. Celine Song • Persepolis (2007) dir. Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud • Piano, The (1993) dir. Jane Campion • Return to Me (2000) dir. Bonnie Hunt • Sleepless in Seattle (1993) dir. Nora Ephron • Slums of Beverly Hills (1998) dir. Tamara Jenkins • Speed Racer (2008) dir. Lana and Lilly Wachowski • Strange Days (1995) dir. Kathryn Bigelow • Take This Waltz (2011) dir. David Spade was great in the t.v. show "Just Shoot Me" that ran from 1997 - 2003. He does his typical David Spade character like in Tommy Boy. Great series too.

A lot of the story kept making me think of The Jerk with Steve Martin. I kind of wonder if they did not model it a bit based on that one.

I did not realize Fred Ward (RIP) was in this. I always loved him, and he stars in some of my favorite movies.

This will be my first time seeing this movie. I always hear people quote and talk about it, so I figure this was a good time to finally watch it.

BEST 80’s cheesy comedy movie, “Midnight Madness!” Michael J. Fox ‘s first movie

Haven’t watched this yet, but it’s good to hear about your new setup. It’s a shame that you’ve had to watch all that came before, on such a small screen. But I’m glad to know that future viewing will be much better.

if you start a David Spade streak, must do Tommy Boy with Chris Farley

From that list, I particularly recommend: 1, 2, 14 & 15.

This is a very fun movie to just cut loose in front of the tv. But my favorites with him and his best friend, the late Chris Farley, are Tommy Boy and Black Sheep. The movies with him on Netflix, like The Wrong Missy and The Do-Over, are really good too. It was great as always watching Sam's reaction to this movie.

I've been watching a lot of serious stuff lately so I needed something dumb and low brow like this. And what happened to Joe's sister, who he definitely didn't bang? Did I miss a line where they mentioned where she was in the present?

Brandon

Been waiting for this one. Enjoyed the reaction. Joe Dirt is a classic. My two cents worth... Tommy Boy is very good. Black Sheep is not. Just my opinion.

FischerMax98

Some Rob Schneider films could be fun too

Matt

If you want another extremely stupid but extremely funny film I recommend "High School High" 1996 its so bad yet hilarious

Matt

Been looking forward to this one. (Re)Watching along with your reaction is always a treat. Cheers Y'all.
