Excellent movie!! Surprised you haven’t seen this gem yet! You have to remember that it’s a movie meant to evoke certain emotions. It accomplishes that so well.

Recommendation for another great Clint Eastwoodfilm, Heartbreak Ridge from 1986.

I don't think you two noticed, but the actress who played Walt's daughter in law/son's wife was "Little Marie" in Rocky Balboa.

Hey Dan and Sam; you finally watched my favorite movie! My Dad served combat engineers in the 24th infantry, Korea. Growing up in my house was like having Clint Eastwood as your Dad. for me--Seeing this film was an out-of-body experience, Yea, he was a crabby racist, but he had a heart of gold!!

Yeah, I totally thought he had a detonator in his hand and that house was gonna be toast 😂
You're initial "incredible" reaction at the end before the do-over genuinely made me tear up. 😥 Damn harmones! Lol

That's the first time I've heard the term "Swan Song". I like it.

Another vote for In the Line of Fire. It’s sort of like, if Harry Callahan had joined the Secret Service instead of the San Francisco PD. But I think it’s a richer and more mature story than any of the Dirty Harry movies. And I’m not saying that it’s in any way a Dirty Harry “clone”. It’s a mid-period Eastwood, where he plays an aging Secret Service agent.

In the Line of Fire is fantastic! Hope it makes a poll.

I fist bump girls. They always have this cute reaction to it. Like they think it's cute or something.
I learned on my own the hard way and also to lock the space between the thumb and index finger against theirs so that it's a strong handshake and you don't get a limp fish handshake where you become the girl in the exchange.

My father is not as harsh as Walt, but he would always teach me things that he considered important. One that I always do is the firm handshake, and when ever someone tries to fist bump me I say "nope, I was taught to give firm handshakes."

As many times as I have seen this I still cry every time. That's a good thing though. If movies don't stir your emotions, then they are not doing their job.

Guys since you liked Gran Torino, I hope you consider reacting to 'A Million Dollar Baby" , "A Perfect World" and "Play Misty For me" whenever you do another Clint Eastwood poll in the future.
Loved Sam's reaction..My wife cried all night when we saw it for the first time.

It's hard not to love this movie, or Walt--er, Mr. Kowalski--bigoted old fuck that he was. My grandfather--the only one I knew--was a bigot and a grumpy old man full of hate and insults; but, in spite of being married to one of the most wonderful women in the history of the planet (I'm biased here...but also not wrong), he never found the new layers of warmth and humanity that Walt does; and sadly, died that way. Oddly enough, that makes me love Walt more. To find a hopeful truth in art that I--and my grandfather--never found in life.

He got exactly what he deserved. The respect of a surrogate family, and the chance to go out with nobility and purpose instead of being eaten from the inside.

The only musical comedy Clint Eastwood movie I can think of is "Paint Your Wagon"(1969). It's definitely worth a watch, but you'll never get it on YouTube because it's a musical. Clint Eastwood regretted doing it, but it was a huge hit and still a fun classic. It was an epic, big budget movie that never made back it's cost despite being a box office hit. Very controversial.

Great movie. The Clint Eastwood film I've seen the most, however, is In The Line of Fire; definitely one of his best

So much looking forward to this! I mentioned this in a previous post, but Gran Torino was filmed here in the Metro Detroit area and suburbs. Me and my dad got to meet Clint Eastwood (an amazing and humble human being, and a proud patriotic American), as the VFW scenes in the film were shot at my dad's and my VFW (Menge Post #6756) in Warren, MI. The booth they sit in was actually built by the crew for the movie, and is still used to this day! They were there shooting at the VFW for about 6 days or so. Also, the location of the hardware store and barber shop was shot in Royal Oak, MI, and my apartment at the time was just a few blocks away.

That's what makes this film so rewatchable for me. Sometimes it gets too Kum Ba Ya for me to the point of being cringy, but it never ruins the film.

Ah, the point of the film is, Walt sacrifices himself for non family members who had become his surrogate family. Walt had overcome some of his prejudices.

My grandfather was a Korean War vet. He was just like Walt. As a kid, I found him difficult to get to know. Obviously he was carrying some unresolved trauma. When he passed away years ago, the funeral was very very quiet at the reception afterwards. I suspect many family members didn't really know him either.

I put this one behind Unforgiven on my favorite Clint Eastwood movies. It's a flawed classic that is very rewatchable. Like Walt, this movie is still likeable despite it's flaws.

You like pealing back the layers of angry old men? Try "Scent of a Woman" (1992). The dirty old man is Al Pacino. What makes him so angry and dirty? It got Al Pacino his first Oscar.
