Point Break (1991) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Saw Point Break in Canada 🇨🇦 in 91. Absolutely loved it. Same summer I saw T2 Judgement Day. A good summer ☀️

Yes, I hope Daniel and Sam do a Katheryn Bigelow reaction series because not only is there SD, but Near Dark and Blue Steel as well. Plus there is her most well-known movie, The Hurt Locker, and I think she did a submarine movie starring Harrison Ford. Such a versatile director. Strange Days, though, is one of my all-time favorite movies, and Angela Basset and Tom Sizemore, RIP, do some of their best work here.

A third request for Strange Days. There are countless great movies that aren’t instant “crowd pleasers”. One way to correct lower appreciation for some excellent movies (which is no fault of their own) is to feature more of them as reactions. And let’s be honest: so far there has been a ridiculous amount of repetition in the reacting community—though to be fair, it’s a pretty new development. What I’m saying is, I hope that going forward, TBR will help break any kind of mold that has developed among reactors. McDonalds is popular, but it will never register as good eating. And out yonder lies a vast catalog of excellent stuff. The world is full of people who haven’t yet discovered their favorite movies.

I went skydiving once and it is pretty much how they describe it in the movie. It really is like no other feeling when you’re free falling. I’m not sure I would do it now, but one day I might get up the nerve to do it again.

Robert Boyd

It did. Woo-HOO! It wouldn't click, though, I had to type it in manually. Yeah, I'm pretty much the John McClane of YouTube, everything on the internet challenges me 😂

I know, right? There are plenty of actors who do perfect American accents like Hugh Laurie. I had no idea he was British until I saw him in an interview. But Americans suck at accents, especially Australian for some reason. Like the guy at the end of Independence Day trying to to a British accent i think. Not sure what he was going for.

The cops Aussie accents at the end make me cringe I hope we don't sound like that 🤪

I hope that worked! I’m like Discord technologically challenged! -Sam

That's so awesome! -Sam

Ah, yes...the original The Fast and the Furious. 🤘 Hey, sorry to ask a dumb question here, but I can't find the link to Discord. Can you drop me one or tell me where I haven't looked yet? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sam should definitely show TBR Ghost. Roadhouse is fun too in an OTT 80s way. Swayze was also in Donnie Darko! All great movies!

Seconding Strange Days!!! Ralph Fiennes and Angela Bassett!!! 5/5

Sarah

Love this movie, it inspired me to get into skydiving. As luck had it, my pro-rating instructor was one of the stunt jumpers on the skydiving sequences filmed at Lake Powell. Sam should give it a try sometime ;).

This movie is a lot of fun. Katherine Bigelow is a great action director. The surfing scenes were so beautiful. Another Katherine Bigelow film to watch is Strange Days. It’s an excellent movie that almost nobody has seen. Since Daniel is a Red Hot Chili Peppers fan I went to a special screening of Seven Samurai last year, and when I got in line Flea and his daughter were in front of me, so I got to talk to him about classic movies. It was awesome.

Robert Boyd

Awesome reaction as usual. Random factoids that may only interest me: The script was co-written by James Cameron, who was once married to the director of the film. The kid selling the surfboard in the beginning also played John Connor in Cameron's Terminator 2 - a film that opened in July of 1991, the same month as Point Break. Something about that always struck me as nuts - two classic movies being so intertwined even down to their release dates.

Another memorable Anthony Kiedis (and Flea) performance was in "The Chase"

Now I gotta watch Hot Fuzz again.

Babes sir

Deano

This is the movie that inspired The Fast and the Furious Saga

"He's not coming back" -- RIP Patrick Swayze T.T

Sarah

This movie inspired me to go take lessons on how to skydive. Which led to other crazy stuff, like bungee cord jumping and off-roading in the desert on ATV's. California in the 1990s was a fun place to be at.

For more Patrick Swayze please react to "Ghost" and "Road House" !!! Another Great Keanu Film is "The Devils Advocate" from 1997 and "The Gift" from 2000
