The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

"Those Aren't Dogs!!!" LMAO!!! Classic TBR Schmitt.

Guston Zimasheen

I always thought of this movie as a parody of action movies, it's so over the top.

David Martin

The last big 90s action movie you still need to see is Face/Off! It's totally up there with True Lies, The Matrix and The Long Kiss Goodnight.

Odd Thomas

You guys have to do The Last Boy Scout, another criminally underrated action movie. Love your reactions!

oldcdog

There's a writing paradigm called thesis/antithesis/synthesis (which is itself drawn from Hegelian Dialectics, but writers will steal stuff from anywhere) that is perfectly encapsulated in this movie, which I only noticed when I rewatched it just now. We begin with Samantha (thesis, status quo) who becomes Charly in the second act (antithesis) and then finally Sam at the end (synthesis). She even has a hairstyle at the end combining Samantha and Charly's styles. Just some great attention to detail at a craft level, especially for an actioner about an amnesiac spy. Thanks for watching this one!

Michael Green

I know I’m late to the party, but this is one of the most underrated action movies of all time! Shane Black never gets enough credit with his unique style and dialogue. Both Geena and SLJ had great chemistry and were perfect in their respective roles. There was suppose to be a sequel titled, The Kiss After Lightning, but it never got off the ground for whatever reason. I know SLJ and Renny Harlin are interested in the script, but Geena is semi-retired and don’t know if she would reprise her role ☹️ A solid 10/10!

JG

A pity it won't be a reaction. It's almost as if you two have private lives where you just watch stuff. Sacrilege!

Aaron Barlow

Philip Davetas

Dude. WEDNESDAY is so great!

Philip Davetas

Samuel L Jackson says years later in a interview that this is his personal Favorite Role because he had so much fun and it's really a Great Film

Florian Meier

It's a medical condition. I have tri-da-aphasia. I can only two da-da's in a row.

Steve Mercier

You guys should react to Wednesday, the show about Wednesday Addams of the Addams family. It's really good.

Aaron Barlow

You guys are killing me. Its "buh-da-da-da-dum". 3 da's... not 2! Sorry, I had to say it. Phew... I feel better. lol 🎵buh-da-da-da-dum you weren't singing it right buh-da-da-da-dum made me lose sleep last night 🎵

Mr. Writhms

I think you guys would really like La Femme Nikita or the remake Point of No Return

Ed R

This is so damn cool!

Philip Davetas

As I recall the parallels were with The Matrix. I remember I saw The Thirteenth Floor when it hit video, after having seen The Matrix in the theater three times, and on video a half dozen more. I still thought The Thirteenth Floor was great, and it was kind of sad that it was so over shadowed by The Matrix.

Vwlss Nvwls

Grenades that produce fireballs... Buh-da-da dum Are really fucking stupid... Buh-da-da dum But I really don't care... Buh-da-da dum 'Cause I love this stupid movie

Steve Mercier

So be honest, TBR Schmitt... are you looking at your wife the same after this. She is called Samantha, if that is her real name. ;P

Vwlss Nvwls

This has been one of my favorite action movies since the first time I saw it in 1998. My friend and I could not believe we had not heard more about it before we rented it, but we watched it again the next day before we returned it. And yes, that final kill with the Christmas lights has been one of the most amazing scenes in an action movie. :D

Vwlss Nvwls

It's funny that you mix this up with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, given, as you can see from the comments, that movie was also written (and directed) by Shane Black. He's actually the reason both are Christmas movies -- anything he writes (Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3, and The Nice Guys) is set at Christmas because he loves it. I agree with Sam that Geena Davis is so awesome in this movie. I got my Blu-ray copy of the movie autographed by her and Craig Bierko (Timothy), and next year I'm going to get Sam Jackson on it as well. This is definitely also Renny Harlin's best movie. Die Hard 2 is fine and all, and Cliffhanger is pretty good, but this one is the one I come back to over and over again. It's just so funny and action-packed. Glad you guys loved it.

Tyler Foster

Brian Cox is always great. Even his small amount of time in this, he created an unforgettable character.

Vwlss Nvwls

Looking forward to Magnum Force!

Mike Tocci

My mom and I used to use tge quote about the dog licking his butt whenever any of our dogs did that. It was just whoever caught them doing it. Like I'd be in the living room then hear my mom in the kitchen, "You've been licking your butt for 3 hours now."

Donna Castellano

Demolition Man kinda suffered the same fate, with the action genre winding down the way it was mid-90s.

Donna Castellano

One of my favorite Craig Bierko movies is The Thirteenth Floor (1999). Its a fun sci-fi/drama/mystery movie. It was dismissed quite a bit because of some parallels to another movie that came out that year. I won't say, so I don't drop any spoilers should you decide to watch it.

Donna Castellano

Oh yes The Last Boy Scout definitely needs to be on the list!!!

Demos Samolis

Fantastic choice with movies. Renny Harlin also did Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger as well as A Nightmare on Elm Street 4. hes pretty awesome with his creativity in movies. I love that you guys pick these hidden gems from 80s and 90s. I would definitely recommend some others that dont get much love or watch on patreon or youtube like "From Dusk Till Dawn" with George Clooney or "Weekend at Bernies"

Demos Samolis

I really dig Kathryn Bigelow a lot. I love NEAR DARK and POINT BREAK. HURT LOCKER is amazing too. I'll have to revisit STRANGE DAYS.

Philip Davetas

This has been a favorite of mine for ages! Geena Davis is such an unbelievable bamf in this. Btw, for follow-ups to this awesomeness, I have to recommend Cutthroat Island. It's stars Geena and Matthew Modine during yo-ho-ho pirate days. ... YEAH. <3 Also in the same vein, I've got to recommend the movie Strange Days, directed by Kathryn Bigelow. It's got not one but *two* amazing female leads in Angela Bassett and Juliette Lewis, along with Ralph Fiennes, who's really excellent in this one (and Tom Sizemore!). It's not what I'd call action-y, like this one, but it definitely has some suspense elements to it. I'd say it's more like... sci-fi noir, like Blade Runner, maybe? Yeah, this is my favorite movie of all time so can't recommend it highly enough.

Rue

Buh, da, da, dump! TBR Schmitt and Samantha Buh, da, da, dump! Gettin' on up this mothafucka! Buh, da, da, dump! I love this flick so much. Thanks for doing this.

Philip Davetas

Such a fun movie with a great duo! Sucks that Geena Davis kinda dropped off after the 90s , but I read a profile on her not too long ago and apparently she's doing well. Also, that part where Samantha provides cover for Mitch with the sniper rife has had to have been a level in more than a few video games lol. Edit: I skimmed over the profile again. It's in The New Yorker. She said that either Samantha in this film or Thelma in 'Thelma and Louise' is her favorite character. Fun fact: That story about the WTC bombing in 1993 and how one of the guys responsible was able to come to the US because the CIA got him a visa. That totally happened. He had helped fight the Soviets in Afghanistan so the visa was his reward. He was on a terror watch list but a "computer error" allowed him to get a visa and I guess an even bigger "computer error" allowed him to get a green card a year later.

Jeffrey Miller

Yasssss. Cutthroat Island next right? Geena Davis & Renny Harlin again!

Odd Thomas

Me tuning in to the Schmitt channel to watch a nice festive movie and get in to the Christmas spirit 🎅🎄🎉🎁⛄ Presses play* to hear Sam casually talking about dismembering children 😮😳 That was a super enjoyable reaction to a badass Christmas action movie Timothy is the perfect movie villain, utterly ruthless with zero fucks given

Duncan

Oh man this was so much fun to watch with you guys. Awesome! Mitch is absolutely one of the best Samuel L. Jackson characters. I forgot how funny he was in this movie. Yes, I'm a Mormon. That's a duck not a dick! So this movie sadly wasn't successful at the time. I think it was because this kind of over the top Arnold/Bruce Willis action movie was going out of fashion in the mid-90s and smaller indie movies like Pulp Fiction and Fargo were coming in. But The Long Kiss Goodnight is such a fun rewatchable, and it's a shame they didn't do more. Geena Davis was married to the director Renny Harlin a the time (he also directed Cliffhanger and Die Hard 2), but they divorced and that was it for the character. But c'mon! At least make more movies with Mitch! At least think about it while Mitch is thinking about how much his balls hurt.

Ellie Miller

One of my wife's favorite Christmas movies. Sam Jackson and Geena Davis are fire, one of Shane Blacks funniest scripts next to The Last Boy Scout and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, but the real standout for me is Brian Cox. Small though his role is, he steals every scene is in, whether it's his remarks on the dog licking it's butt or the benefits of hiding a gun in your crotch or his comments on Mitch's intellect and drawing skills. "Yes, it was very exciting...and tomorrow we go to the zoo..."

Steven Montano

Samuel Jackson says this is his most favorite role of all the movies he's done and I can see why. It looks like he had a lot of fun playing Mitch. And finally a reaction to this! Sam and Dan score big again! ✌🙂

Mr. Writhms

Saving this for Sunday and can't wait Samuel Jackson is great as always and geena Davies is fantastic, would I consider this a Christmas movie ? Yes but not like elf or the snowman that's for sure lol

Ian

Nothing says Christmas like a good Shane Black movie 😊 You guys are on fire 🔥

ShadowVessel π

Great !!! I really looking forward for this;) love Geena Davies !!! Please Watch also "Thelma &Louise" from 1991 !!! Incredible Performance!!!

Florian Meier

For realz? I'm putting this on right fucking now!
