Details on how Kenny Omega-NJPW appearance came about

After a four year absence, we're told that conversations started this summer about Kenny Omega facing Will Ospreay in New Japan Pro Wrestling. During our interview with Omega in June before Forbidden Door, he was in work mode in planting the seeds for a match even before his return ahead of AEW All Out. However, the match wasn't finalized by then.
Fightful Select is told that Rocky Romero, per usual, played a huge role in facilitating the match and helping get it cleared. Romero has been a huge factor in New Japan's global expansion and their positive relationships with numerous companies. At one point, Romero was said to be in frequent contact with AEW Owner Tony Khan to make deals happen.
Those familiar with the situation claim that the deal only got finalized within the past two or three weeks, despite conversations happening over the course of several months. The suspension in relation to Brawl Out didn't kill the talks, even for the time being, but we've heard that it certainly slowed things down.

2022-11-20 23:31:59 +0000 UTCThis will be amazing! The Promo on NJPW of Kenny sitting in what looked like a golden throne speaking in Japanese was awesome. Back when he was a heel in NJPW he made a point of not speaking Japanese even though he was fluent. This will be a whole new Kenny Omega the likes of NJPW has yet to have experienced. I'm curious about Don Callis though. He's still by Kenny's side, but he did seem to show interest in Ospreay...
