Unless you watched Memphis wrestling you’d never know how much: Memphis Lawler >>>>>>>>>>> WWE Lawler. I loved him as a kid but I loathe him now. Edited to add: his hometown doesn’t hold him accountable for anything he’s done on WWE programming nor for his relationships. It’s as if his cult status here exists in a vacuum of Saturday morning WMC Channel 5 studio wrestling and Monday nights at the Mid-South Coliseum. Even his bad BBQ and stupid firework commercials don’t lessen his image. I wonder if this inhibits his growth / self-awareness of cultural sensitivity.
