WWE has no plans to work with Alberto Del Rio
Added 2021-10-29 21:55:58 +0000 UTCThis past month seemed to be time for the annual "Alberto Del Rio says he's going back to WWE" headlines, so Fightful poked around about the situation.
When asking sources within WWE, they'd heard of no recent talks between Del Rio and the company. One source was quite frank with Fightful and said "could you imagine if we let go of some of the people we did, only to bring him in? There's no fucking way that happens." The last time Fightful asked WWE about Del Rio possibly returning when he fueled those rumors, we had several sources indicate that the company would not put Paige in the position to ever have to be around him for any reason if they could help it.
Del Rio is at odds with Combate Americas, which was a major revenue stream for him at one point. However, in speaking with promoters, there's no interest in booking him across the board as far as top American companies are concerned.
Comments
Isn't he being tried for sexual assault or something? Surprised that doesn't automatically make him a candidate, given the Gable Steveson rape case. Edit: Okay, I got an email notification about a reply from Fightful, but it's nowhere to be found. Opted to look it up like they suggested anyway. I see a few articles about the charges being dropped, but I also see one as recent as August(which is also the most recent one I'm finding, apparently) where he was supposed to face trial about it months ago, but it was delayed numerous times, with the last date planned being August 2nd. In terms of the apology given by the accuser last year(Fightful's right, research can really help keep you up to date when done regularly), I'm sorry, but something feels off about it, given stuff police said and an account from Paige alluding to Alberto being an abuser but not mentioning his name, while Del Rio claimed it was the other way around thus acknowledging himself as the person Paige is alluding to(a classic JBL move, imho). I'd guess the accuser was mass harassed by his fans, buuuut I feel like his fan count is single digits so it can't be that.
